Chapter 16 My Wife's Opinion is More Important

"I'll pick them up later. Be polite. I'm working, so don't mess with me." Long Weihe drove to the airport, making a request to the person in the backseat child seat on the highway. "Okay." It was a beautiful Saturday, and many of the cars on the road were families heading out for vacations in places like Conghua and Zengcheng. Before Qian Pingtao's accident, he'd often taken them on weekend drives to places to relax, and they'd often used this highway. Qian Duoduo was busy with one hand, playing with two Lego minifigures and mumbling fight lines, unaware that their path had changed. Before, it was all about pleasure; now it was all about travel. With him away, her plans were disrupted, and things became much more difficult. She'd always taken him with her when she could. She'd never slept well, but last night was especially bad. Angry with Shi Zhenglin and worried about today's candidate interviews, she'd only gotten two or three hours of sleep in the early hours. Her head was swollen, and she'd periodically run a Thai nasal cleanser under her nose. The rich minty scent kept her awake for a while. The person she met at the airport was Yan Bin, the candidate she had met on her last business trip. He was the vice president of a tertiary hospital and a leading cardiovascular specialist in China. He had only one day available, Saturday, so he had to come in the morning and leave in the evening. Arranging an interview on the hiring company's major shareholder's day off was difficult, as both parties were pressed for time. To ensure a seamless transition, she arranged to pick him up at the airport. Zhuorui, a high-end private hospital affiliated with the hiring company, had strict requirements for its president candidate: administrative experience at or above the vice president level at a public tertiary hospital, a well-known and influential position in a designated medical field, connections with domestic and international medical institutions and experts, and preferably familiarity with the operating model of high-end private hospitals. While the salary was attractive, poaching someone from a public hospital with these qualifications proved difficult, and all parties involved had been searching for a long time. The deal was hard-won. Lin Yao attended the annual Spring Festival Gala of the Hometown Association of Commerce and drank half a bottle of baijiu with Song Yuqing, a fellow villager she had been eyeing for three years. Song Yihui and Tan Ming then carried her home. With a bit of luck, her suffering paid off. Song Yuqing, the assistant to the chairman of the hospital's major shareholder, was looking to transfer the current director this year, and he was looking for a successor for his boss. Long Weihe's ability to find Yan Bin was entirely due to her connections; it would have been unrealistic to directly search for such a role in the market. She canvassed everyone she knew in the medical community, seeking recommendations and penetrating the entire industry, narrowing down two candidates: Li Huaigang, who had already been eliminated by Song Yuqing, and Yan Bin. With no business to pursue, and a large order like this, the two fought fiercely for it. Lin Yaotuo's client base, she was the one...

"I'll pick someone up soon. Be polite. I'm working, don't mess with me."

Long Weihe drove to the airport and made a request to the person in the child seat in the back seat on the highway.

"Um."

It was a beautiful Saturday, and many of the cars on the road were families heading for vacations in places like Conghua and Zengcheng. Before Qian Pingtao's accident, he'd often taken them on weekends to find places to relax, and they'd often travel along this highway.

Qian Duoduo was busy with one hand, playing with two Lego minifigures and mumbling fight lines, unaware that their path had changed. It used to be about pleasure, but now it was about hustle and bustle.

As soon as he stayed at home, her plans were disrupted and things became much more difficult, so she took him with her whenever she could.

She had never slept well, and last night was especially bad. Angry with Shi Zhenglin and worried about today's candidate interviews, she only slept for about two or three hours in the early morning. Her head felt bloated, and she kept sniffing the Thai Eight Immortals Nose Stick under her nose all the way.

The strong mint flavor can keep you awake for a while.

The person who went to the airport to pick me up was the candidate Yan Bin whom I met on my last business trip. He is the vice president of a large tertiary hospital and an authoritative cardiovascular expert in China.

He only had one day available, this Saturday, so he had to come in the morning and leave in the evening. It was difficult to arrange an interview on the hiring company's major shareholder's day off, as both parties were pressed for time. To ensure a seamless transition, she arranged to pick him up at the airport for the interview.

Zhuorui High-end Private Hospital, under the recruiting party, has strict indicators for the candidate for the director. The candidate must have administrative management experience at the level of vice director or above of a public tertiary hospital, be well-known and influential in the designated medical field, have connections with domestic and foreign medical institutions and experts, and preferably be familiar with the operating model of high-end private hospitals.

Although the salary is attractive, it is difficult to poach people from public hospitals under these conditions, and all parties have been searching for a long time.

The order wasn't easy to come by. Lin Yao attended the annual Spring Festival gathering of the Hometown Chamber of Commerce. She drank half a bottle of baijiu with Song Yuqing, a fellow villager she'd been eyeing for three years. Song Yihui and Tan Ming then escorted her home. Luckily, her suffering paid off. Song Yuqing worked as the assistant to the chairman of the hospital's major shareholder, and they were looking to transfer the current dean this year. He was looking for a successor for his boss.

Long Weihe was able to find Yan Bin entirely through connections; it would have been unrealistic to find such a role directly in the market. She asked everyone she knew in the medical community for recommendations, infiltrating the entire industry and narrowing down two candidates: Li Huaigang, who had already been eliminated by Song Yuqing, and Yan Bin.

With no other orders to pursue, they fought tooth and nail for this big deal. Lin Yaotuo's client base and the candidates she recruited would be split 50-50 on their service fees, enough to cover the office rent and other expenses for the year.

Yan Bin was a classmate from out of town who had been introduced to her by a former biopharmaceutical R&D expert. He happened to be interested in pursuing a career in southern Taiwan. He met most of the requirements, with the exception of his multi-regional resources. However, he had other advantages: a good image, a refined demeanor, and strong communication skills. Song Yuqing had video chatted with him twice, and she and Lin Yao praised his high emotional intelligence, predicting that the boss would definitely like him.

Exiting the airport expressway, waiting in line to pay the toll, Qian Duoduo, with sharp eyes, saw an acquaintance waiting in the car in the next toll lane, and suddenly shouted, "Tear, tear!"

Long Weihe was startled and looked at the car over there, and met Shi Zhenglin's eyes.

Children are children, and the unpleasantness has long been forgotten.

"Where are you going, Sisi?" Qian Duoduo asked loudly while leaning against the car window.

Shi Shi was brought out and felt better. She didn't say a word, but there was a hint of surprise in her eyes at seeing him.

"Is that the kid from kindergarten? Say hello, baby?" Aunt Xu next to him reminded.

"I'm going out to play." Shi Shi finally spoke.

"Me too, my mother and I—"

Long Weihe put in his card, stepped on the accelerator, and drove in front of them. Qian Duoduo's second half of the sentence was swallowed up.

The two cars drove one after the other for a while.

"Tongue, the tongue can't be flat, slightly curl it up, you learn from me, Shi - poetry -"

Long Weihe couldn't stand it, so she corrected his pronunciation and changed her tone.

Shi Shi followed their car with her eyes and leaned against the passenger seat, "Dad, I actually want to apologize to Qian Enming."

"Want to apologize? Tell him when you meet him next time."

He stared at the car and saw that she changed lanes again, driving faster than Xiao He and disappeared.

Thinking that he hadn't compensated yet, he told Aunt Xu behind him, "Find her WeChat in the class group and add her. I'll transfer the money to you and you transfer it to her." After thinking about it, he added, "Be careful with your words, be polite, and apologize."

Aunt Xu replied, "Okay. I'll do it."

She was waiting at the arrival gate holding Qian Duoduo's hand. She saw people from afar. Not only Yan Bin, but also a woman who looked to be about forty-five or forty-six, about the same age as him.

Yan Bin, with his refined appearance and friendly demeanor, approached and introduced with a smile, "My wife, this is Miss Long."

The last time he and Long Weihe met, they mentioned their family situation, and that his wife was a full-time worker.

"Hello, Mrs. Yan. I'm sorry, but my child can't go to kindergarten today. Do you mind if I follow you out?"

Qian Duoduo immediately greeted, "Hello, uncle and aunt!"

"Hello!" Mrs. Yan's eyes swept over Qian Duoduo's injured hand, and her tone was gentle, "We are sorry to disturb your Saturday rest. Please come and pick me up."

Long Weihe led them to the parking lot. Yan Bin leaned close to her and whispered, "My wife came with me to take a look. After all, it's a big move, and she doesn't quite agree with me coming over here. My wife's opinion is more important. If we agree, I'll have to convince her."

Long Weihe smiled and said she understood, thinking that he was just adding bargaining chips to the negotiations.

"Director Yan, Director Chen is a snake and you're a monkey, so you'll get along well. He's a bit impatient and prefers to hear key points. The issues we'll discuss will most likely focus on the hospital's future operational strategies and profit model."

"This is also my focus. I have ideas, don't worry."

"Private hospitals focus on financial data, have a competitive culture, and have controls on unspecified vacations. Do you mind that?"

She learned from the failure of Li Huaigang's interview and reminded him to be cautious when requesting additional leave.

"After working in the hospital for so many years, I'm very satisfied to have a normal holiday. This is not a big deal."

"Also, his mother is in her eighties and has some cardiovascular issues. He's a very filial son and has always been very concerned about this matter. Because of her age, some doctors have recommended stent implants, while others have advised against it. I've learned this privately, so you should have an idea."

This was dug out by Lin Yao from Song Yuqing.

"If he mentions it, I will discuss it with him seriously and give him comprehensive advice."

Yan Bin knew what she meant. If the other party mentioned that he was a cardiovascular expert, he could use this as an opportunity to make the best professional judgment and gain her favor.

While driving and coaching for the interview, Lin Yao had already arrived at Zhuorui Hospital to look for Song Yuqing. The two of them worked together from the inside out.

Lin Yao brought two small cans of green tea from his hometown and personally brewed them for Song Yuqing in the hospital's administrative office.

"It's the taste of my hometown, please try it, Mr. Song. Sincerely!" Lin Yao acted respectfully and deliberately acted like a little sister from my hometown.

"You guy, you can make me drunk. My hands are shaking when I take this tea. I feel anxious and scared. I have a psychological trauma." Song Yuqing took it and drank a sip with a smile.

"How dare I compete with you in drinking? You are taking care of me. Thank you for your care."

Song Yuqing is in his early forties. His appearance and speech and behavior are a bit funny and rough. Lin Yao has to follow his speaking style and rhythm.

She observed him thoroughly at the hometown chamber of commerce. He really had many faces. In front of one or two fellow entrepreneurs, he was just a flatterer, but in front of people like her who had less experience than him, he looked down on her at first and pretended to be very serious.

To make him happy and get things done, you have to cater to his preferences, flatter him, and stroke his feathers. Lin Yao has almost done enough to stroke him. Last year at the Chamber of Commerce Spring Festival, he called her Xiao Lin, but now he often calls her Lin Yao, "You guy!" He is much more enthusiastic.

"You have a sharp eye and are very good at judging people. Oh, I was so short-sighted that I thought Li Huaigang was better than Yan Bin. With your evaluation, Yan Bin is really a treasure."

Li Huaigang has been eliminated anyway, and only Yan Bin is left. She will use him to promote Yan Bin and win him over.

"That Li Huaigang, he came up and asked me for a month's leave. I haven't even let him through the door yet. Do you think he has low EQ? How could the head of the hospital come here and ask for such a person? I'm very good at judging people, I can't be wrong."

"That's for sure. You can't be wrong about Yan Bin."
