Searching for the truth amidst the fog,
Tracking down the murderer through danger,
Born for truth, dying for truth.
The whole family—she said it so effortlessly. Jin Lu looked at her. He hadn't expected Ouyang to be so magnanimous. No matter how Wang Yao treated her, she remained so innocent. Suddenly, a petty thought crossed his mind. Perhaps, he should learn to let go of something. He should be as open-minded as she was about his family.
Xia Yue really likes her personality, frankness and seriousness.
"Sure." Jin Lu said, "Just bring your parents with you when the time comes."
Of course, the two people in the kitchen heard their conversation.
"You just worry too much," Xia Yu said. "Look, it's so great to have three children."
"You only see the surface." Wang Yao also looked towards the living room. "Do you know what the three of them were like when we were not around? Those two brothers might have almost become enemies."
"Forget it," Xia Yu didn't believe her words, "Our own children don't know it yet, and they won't become enemies no matter what."
"Just wait and see."
Ouyang nodded with satisfaction. She knew that her godmother came this time to resolve the conflict between the three of them, but even she herself didn't know how to resolve this conflict, so how could Wang Yao know?
The three of them couldn't say much, and there was no topic. Ouyang was too lazy to speak, so he turned on the TV and asked, "What do you want to watch?"
"Whatever." Jin Lu didn't care.
"I'm going to go see my parents and see if they need any help." Xia Yue got up and left.
Seeing that he left on purpose, Ouyang felt even more uncomfortable. She kept changing the TV channels. When Jin Lu next to her wanted to speak, he was interrupted by the sound from the TV.
"Can the TV be turned off?" Jin Lu asked.
"Okay," she turned off the TV and reached for the biscuit. "Want some?"
"No," Jin Lu found it hard to imagine that the girl who used to rely on him so much was now a little afraid of him. "Can we talk?"
She nodded.
Jin Lu stood up, went upstairs, and entered the study: "Let's do it here."
She followed them, and the three people in the kitchen came out. Xia Yue wanted to follow them, but Wang Yao grabbed her hand and said, "Just help your dad pick the vegetables here."
In the study, Jin Lu didn't sit down, but hugged her tightly, with a strength that seemed to want to put her into his body. She struggled a little, but could not escape his hands, so she continued to let him hold her like this.
His tears fell on her shoulders, making them feel so heavy with guilt that she couldn't lift them up.
"Why?" Jin Lu asked, "Why did you leave me?"
"elder brother."
Jin Lu: "Brother? This title leaves me with no way to deal with you."
"If I have done anything that has caused you to misunderstand me before," she said, wanting to shake off the guilt, "please forgive me."
"I'm too stupid," he choked a little, "You are no longer the Ouyang who knew nothing."
"sorry."
"No matter what I ask you, just tell me the truth, okay?" He held her shoulders and looked into her eyes.
"What do you want to ask?"
"You already have someone you like?"
She didn't know how to answer that question, but she had to answer, "No."
"I love you!" His enthusiasm and persistence made her at a loss as to what to do.
These three words wandered in her mind, unable to find a fixed place.
He continued: "You know what? It breaks my heart when you don't look at me the same way you used to."
"But I only regard you as a brother. There is no love between us, only family affection." Ouyang looked at him, his eyes that had been hurt had become cloudy.
"Excuses, they're all excuses," he said, throwing things around frantically. "I can give up everything for you, you know? Even this family, huh? This family never belonged to us two in the first place."
Xia Yue rushed in upon hearing the noise. Seeing Jin Lu, who was somewhat out of control, she protected Ouyang behind her and asked, "Brother, what are you doing?"
Wang Yao, who was outside, was completely disappointed. She couldn't imagine that her son, who played the piano with his hands, could be so violent.
Jin Lu pushed Xia Yue away and walked out by himself.
The room was in chaos, and Ouyang didn't know why she had let things turn out like this. Jin Lu couldn't make her point anymore, and she didn't want to say anything now. She looked at Xia Yue and said, "Go out first, leave me alone."
"Ouyang?" Xia Yue was pushed out by her.
She found something on her desk, a small USB drive. She plugged it into her computer and opened the contents. It contained some videos and photos that Jin Lu had left behind on purpose.
She no longer remembered when her godmother and godfather left, but she vaguely heard the sound of the door closing.
There was so much in there; Jin Lu had documented almost their entire life together, including, of course, the times she'd met Mu Zishan and Ouyang Yusheng while abroad. Looking at herself in these videos and photos, she couldn't believe she'd once had such a delicate side.
People say that alcohol is the best anesthetic, but she doesn't think so. In her opinion, the different self inside is her best anesthetic.
"Hello?" A strange girl's voice said, "Is this Miss Ouyang?"
"Hmm?" Her voice was a little hoarse.
"Hello, Mr. Jin has reserved a concert ticket for you," the other party's sweet voice shone into her heart along with the sunlight outside the window. "I just wanted to remind you that the time is 7:30 tonight."
