Apocalypse | Stockpiling | Supernatural Powers | Killing Zombies | Fighting Survivors
Congratulations to me for receiving the Apocalypse Lucky Person package, complete with an arbitrary door ...
I was still a little worried about my luggage, and when I tried to go outside the protective shield, the man stopped me: "Don't go out. If you go out, you'll be cooled down and you won't be able to come back in for two hours."
I stood there stunned for a moment, then realized that I had put my laptop in the bag I was carrying, and there didn't seem to be anything particularly important in my luggage, so I gave up and got into the van with everyone else. After getting in the van, the man didn't turn around, but introduced himself: "My name is Xu Qi. I will be your contact person after we arrive at the shelter. You can consult me about any trivial matters in the shelter."
The car drove for more than ten minutes without reaching its destination. Along the way, there was not a single zombie on the main road. Each intersection of the main road was blocked by wooden fences. The zombies' activity range was limited to some small boxes. The streets were deserted. There were many abandoned cars on the sidewalks on both sides of the road. They looked like they had been cleared out and were lying on the curb in strange shapes.
After driving for another ten minutes or so, we arrived at a three-way intersection. The road signs indicated the directions to three cities. We came from the direction of Z City. The car stopped, and Xu Qi got out and leaned against the door, saying to the people inside, "You guys rest for a while. A few more people will be here soon. We'll go in together when they arrive."
We didn't speak a word the whole way. We were still shaken by Xilang's death. Wufeng looked unwell and kept his eyes closed while listening to music with his headphones on. Since leaving Z City, Wufeng seemed much more composed than I remembered as the generous and honest older brother.
Twenty minutes later, two black minivans of the same model arrived. Two men got out of the two cars, and Xu Qi went up to them and said something before getting back into the car. The car started up again and drove for another ten minutes or so. After crossing a bridge, they saw the archway of the shelter: Sunshine Resort.
After driving a little further in, we could see checkpoints set up in the distance. When we reached the checkpoint, Xu Qi told us to get out of the car. After we got out, we followed Xu Qi to the security checkpoint. After our belongings were checked, we entered the reception hall of the shelter. There were about ten tables and chairs in the hall. Xu Qi arranged for us to sit down, took some paper and pens from the front desk, distributed them to us, and asked us to fill in the information on them.
The A4 paper is printed with: Survivor Registration Form. Below are, in order: name, phone number, date of birth, skill name, space name, all supplies, partner's name, partner's skill, and contact person's name.
After looking at the form, I looked up at Ji Lin'an with a serious expression. Ji Lin'an also looked up at me, leaned closer and whispered, "Choose an unimportant skill and space to write down."
I understand what Ji Lin'an means. The more skills you have, the more attention you will attract. Since we have just arrived at the shelter and don't know anything about it, it's best to keep a low profile and hide ourselves.
I chose the least threatening skill, Telekinesis, and filled it in. When I got to my partner's skill, I turned to look at Ji Lin'an. Ji Lin'an filled in Resource Conversion. I turned back and filled in Ji Lin'an's skill. To ensure the information matched, I quickly filled it in and then got up and walked to Wufeng and Qianliyan. I handed them my form and pointed to the skill I had filled in for Ji Lin'an. Perhaps because they were still as vigilant as we were, they immediately understood and filled in the skill.
When I went to check what Kaka and Xiao K had filled out, I found that they had disappeared without a trace. I said, "Kaka and Xiao K are gone."
Upon hearing me speak, the group immediately looked up and searched around. Qianliyan sneered, "They've only just arrived and they haven't even had time to expose themselves yet."
Ji Lin'an said expressionlessly, "Fill it out first, we'll talk about their matter later."
After we all filled out the forms, Xu Qi took them and handed them to the woman at the front desk. He then walked up to us and said, "I'll take you to the lounge to rest for a bit. We'll assign you accommodations after our staff has finished their assessment."
I asked curiously, "Evaluation? Why do we need an evaluation?"
Xu Qi smiled and said, "We need to assess the damage of everyone's skills. In order to prevent the skill damage of the lucky ones from being too disparate, the one with the lower damage is likely to suffer a loss in the event of a fight."
After Xu Qi finished speaking, he hurriedly called us to the lounge, as if worried that I would continue to ask what the meaning was. After a winding journey, we arrived at a lounge. The lounge had no windows, and apart from a few sofas, a coffee table, and some tea, snacks, and mineral water on the table, there were no other items. There was a door in the corner, and after opening the door, there was a restroom.
After escorting us into the lounge, Xu Qi stood at the door and said, "Everyone, please take a good rest. There are a few other lounges next to us, which are also used to receive lucky winners from other cities. Your skills are still being evaluated, so I need to lock the doors until the evaluation is over. Don't be afraid. We are doing this for your safety, to avoid any conflicts between you and the lucky winners in other lounges during your rest period."
Upon hearing this, Qianliyan was about to walk to the door when Xu Qi smiled, turned around, and locked the door. Qianliyan's raised hand froze, and he frowned, turning his head and saying unhappily, "What? Locking the door so quickly? This isn't protection, it's clearly imprisonment."
Ji Lin'an sat down on the sofa and said calmly, "It's alright, don't worry. Since we said we'd wait until the evaluation is over, let's just wait for it to finish. Everyone, let's rest for a while and recharge."
Thousand-Mile Eyes walked angrily to the tea and snack table, grabbed a few pastries and bread, and turned to ask us, "What would you like to eat?"
I raised my hand: "Could you get me an egg yolk pastry, and a bottle of mineral water, please?"
Wu Feng said, "I want a Red Bull."
Ji Lin'an smiled and stood up: "It's okay, I can carry them myself. You can't carry them all by yourself."
Qianliyan laughed and said, "Old Ji really knows how to care for people."
After saying that, he took the food, smugly snorted at us, and sat down on the sofa. Ji Lin'an took a bottle of water and some bread and sat down next to me. He put the bread on the table and said, "We've been on the road for so long and haven't had lunch. We should eat some bread to fill our stomachs. Who knows when we'll have to eat again?"
Wu Feng opened a Red Bull and drank it all in one gulp. He then grabbed a piece of bread and quickly finished it. He continued to sit on the sofa, looking sullen. Seeing this, Ji Lin'an took the bread from his hand and sat down next to Wu Feng: "What's wrong? Still thinking about Xilang?"
Wu Feng lowered his eyes: "Well, although..."
Before Wufeng could speak, Ji Lin'an reached out and grabbed Wufeng's arm. Wufeng looked up at Ji Lin'an, who smiled and stared intently at him. Wufeng nodded, seemingly absentmindedly.
