Xiao Cheng is dragged into a game world, weak, helpless, and suffering from amnesia. Faced with mentally challenged NPCs, a teammate who seems like a big shot obsessed with finding bugs, and unreli...
Xiao Cheng didn't want to grow taller or bigger when she got wet, especially in front of Fang He.
"Can we restart this game?" She wanted to draw an identity card again.
Reopening is out of the question, Xiao Cheng, forced to become a mushroom, asked dejectedly, "When are we going to get out?"
"No rush, this is a puzzle book. Let's look around for clues first." Fang He looked around calmly and confidently.
"Won't the nurse come back?" Xiao Cheng tiptoed and looked out through the window. The corridor was deserted, with locked wards on both sides, utterly silent.
“Of course I will,” Fang He said firmly, “but I won’t stop him this time. You have to understand, for patients, the ward is the safest place.”
Fang He's guess was correct. Not long after, Nurse No. 5 returned in a menacing manner, carrying a whole bunch of keys, followed by more than a dozen identical faceless burly men.
Their faces clearly showed they were nurses. They stood in two rows against the corridor wall at the ward entrance, looking almost identical.
Nurse Number 5 let out a sinister chuckle and began trying out the keys one by one.
"Ready?" Fang He had finished checking the ward and turned to Xiao Cheng to confirm.
Xiao Cheng took a deep breath, mentally prepared herself, nodded heavily, then reached out and unlocked the door, standing at the doorway with a majestic and awe-inspiring presence.
Nurse Number 5 was taken aback, her hand holding the key freezing in place. But she quickly recovered, sneered, and gruffly berated him, "Bed Number 5, you still know how to come out! I'll make sure you experience that treatment later..."
"Excuse me for interrupting. I've already treated her." Fang He followed Xiao Cheng out, pulled out his name tag from his white coat, and waved it in front of Nurse Number 5.
"But, but..."
"Do you think you know more about treatment than I do?" Fang He's tone turned quite displeased, giving him the full image of a capricious and unpredictable bad doctor.
The words that Nurse No. 5 was about to say got stuck in her throat. Like a chicken with its neck being choked, she stammered for a long time before finally giving in: "I understand. I'll take her back to her ward."
Xiao Cheng's ward was on the second floor. Nurse No. 5 dragged her upstairs, walking as fast as she could, not caring whether Xiao Cheng could keep up, and kept muttering, "I must have had eight lifetimes of bad luck to have to serve a bunch of lunatics like you. When the director comes back, you and that Dr. B... hehe, go in!"
He stopped outside a ward at the end of the second-floor corridor, unlocked it with one hand, kicked the door open, roughly threw Xiao Cheng inside, then closed and locked the door before turning and walking away.
Xiao Cheng lost her balance when she landed and fell flat on her backside. Her tailbone hit the floor without any cushioning, causing her to gasp in pain and take a long time to recover.
She stood up, rubbing her buttocks. Nurse No. 5 was clearly a bully who preyed on the weak and took her anger out on her, but she only dared to curse Fang He behind his back as a doctor.
"Pfft."
Unrestrained laughter came from the innermost corner. Xiao Cheng looked in the direction of the sound with a depressed expression. A woman in a red dress was squatting against the wall with her knees drawn up to her chest. Her messy long hair hung down, completely obscuring her face. She looked just like Sadako.
If nothing unexpected happens, this will be one of my cheap fellow patients.
"Hello?" Xiao Cheng couldn't tell her identity for the time being. She might be an NPC or a fellow player, but in any case, since the situation was unclear, it was always good to remain friendly.
"Shh—" The woman raised her head as if facing a formidable enemy, revealing her beautiful and slender face. She held up an index finger to her lips and exaggeratedly looked around. "Don't talk, I'm going to melt."
Xiao Cheng didn't quite understand the world of mental patients, but it wasn't a big deal. She saw the silent change in the woman's lips after she saw that sentence.
—I am a player.
Xiao Cheng's eyes lit up, and she was about to say something, but the words caught in her throat. Following the direction the woman was pointing, she looked up and saw a smoke detector hanging on the ceiling, next to which was a bugging device that was obvious at a glance.
There might be other cameras, just not displayed in the open.
Xiao Cheng understood, stopped paying attention to the woman, got up from the ground, rubbed his buttocks, and walked to bed number 5 on his own.
She stood by the bed, seemingly lost in thought, but actually observing the room out of the corner of her eye. The general layout of the ward was the same as the one on the first floor, with two beds labeled 5 and 6 placed side by side, separated by a blue curtain.
A clock hangs above the bed, pointing to 2:30 PM. Opposite the bed are two wooden cabinets side by side, their corners padded with thick foam.
The sound of a cart being pushed could be heard in the corridor outside the door. The bottles and jars on the cart clattered together, making a very crisp sound.
Nurse No. 5 strode confidently to the door, peered through the ventilation window at the top of the door for a while to make sure Xiao Cheng was in the ward, and then unlocked the door with a cold smile.
"Bed number 5! Where's your hospital gown? Change into it! Change right now!"
Xiao Cheng simply ignored him, pretending not to hear anything, and remained standing motionless.
Seeing her like that, Nurse No. 5 stomped her foot in exasperation, strode to the cabinet, pulled out a set of blue and white striped hospital gowns, and threw them forcefully at Xiao Cheng's face: "Put these on, put these on!"
He picked up a syringe from the tray of the cart and pointed it at Xiao Cheng's exposed neck: "What are you standing there for? You lunatic! Do you want me to inject you?!"
The syringe contained a dark green liquid with black crystals floating inside, which looked quite ominous. Xiao Cheng certainly didn't want to get a shot for no reason, so she pretended to just realize what was happening and slowly put her hospital gown on over it.
