Xiao Cheng is dragged into a game world, weak, helpless, and suffering from amnesia. Faced with mentally challenged NPCs, a teammate who seems like a big shot obsessed with finding bugs, and unreli...
Xiao Cheng originally planned to try to find a way out before sunrise.
But it's clear they don't intend to let her have her way.
In the blink of an eye, the black mist overhead vanished, replaced by a massive, blazing sun.
Xiao Cheng swore that he had never seen such a terrifying sun in his life; in fact, describing it as a fireball would be more accurate.
"I feel like I'm about to be roasted to a crisp."
She reluctantly moved closer to the rock face, but it didn't help much. In less than five minutes, the rock became scorching hot, and blisters would form if she touched it even slightly.
Fang He didn't say anything, but pulled her behind him to shield her from the direct sunlight as much as possible.
“Based on previous patterns, this situation will last for two to three hours,” he said. “Watch the corpses on the ground; they should be starting to revive.”
As Xiao Cheng expected, the process of the corpse coming back to life was utterly disgusting.
First, under the scorching sun, their flesh melted into a pool of dark red sludge, and then their bare bones struggled to rise, making a teeth-grinding sound as they rubbed against each other.
Instead of attacking, the skeletons groped around and scooped up the dripping flesh and blood from the ground, smearing it all over their bodies like plaster.
The bones were gradually re-encased, and the high temperature quickly evaporated the moisture. The meat paste soon solidified into a lump, with fine cracks appearing on the surface.
It's like wearing a layer of armor on the outside.
The resurrected corpse had no facial features, but it was exceptionally sensitive to the presence of Xiao Cheng and Fang He. It leaped into the air with extraordinary speed, leaving only a few afterimages in the air.
"careful!"
Xiao Cheng pushed Fang He away, narrowly avoiding a sudden stab of broken bone.
Sharp bone fragments grazed her ear and were driven deep into the rock wall, so stuck that the corpse couldn't pull them out.
Fang He reacted extremely quickly, and the instant he was pushed away, he simultaneously raised his wrist and threw out a throwing knife.
With a crisp clang, the blade sliced across the corpse's forehead, creating tiny sparks.
The immense impact flipped the corpse's entire head over, but this was clearly not a fatal injury for it; with a quick twist and turn of its hands, it put the neck back in place.
What followed was an even more ferocious attack.
To avoid being attacked from both sides, the two tried to stay close to the rock wall, but there were just too many corpses. The ones in front were like cockroaches and impossible to kill, and there were endless skeletons crawling up from the ground behind them.
What was even more agonizing than facing these corpses was the increasingly blinding sun overhead.
The temperature continued to rise, and Xiao Cheng's breath was filled with dry, hot air. The intense fighting caused her to lose water even more quickly, giving her the illusion that she was about to suffocate.
"No... I definitely won't make it to the end like this!" She pursed her chapped lips hard, a faint taste of blood spreading in her mouth.
Fang He couldn't see anything and relied entirely on his senses to fight. Under the onslaught, he sustained several more deep and shallow wounds.
Fortunately, although it was dangerous, he was still able to cope for the time being, and even managed to exchange a few words with Xiao Cheng during the breaks in the fight.
"The previous corpses didn't have such high attack and defense, and their temperature didn't rise to this level!"
He gasped for breath, trading blows for blows, pressing down on the head of a corpse and slamming it against the rock wall, smashing it to pieces.
The shattered skull, along with the dried-up flesh, fell to the ground with a crackling sound, but the moment they touched the ground, they melted back into a paste of flesh.
The corpse had lost most of its head and lay on the ground, rummaging around with its hands, picking up bits of flesh and smearing them onto the empty hole on its head.
"Damn, he's still alive!"
Xiao Cheng grabbed a thigh bone and swiftly smashed it down, shattering both of its arms. He then swung his arm to the side, sending two corpses that had taken advantage of the chaos flying.
"This won't do; we can't find the key to this thing at all!" She took a short breath.
To be honest, if her physique hadn't been significantly strengthened in the dungeon, she would probably have collapsed by now.
"The key isn't the thing's vital point, but the merman controlling the corpse." Fang He switched hands to grip the throwing knife and vigorously swung his right wrist.
"When it ends and to what extent it ends are entirely up to him. With such a subjective approach, it's almost impossible for us, who are in the thick of it, to find any loopholes."
"Then let's just find him!" After kicking away several more corpses, Xiao Cheng felt like his lungs were about to explode.
She felt like a stranded fish, the kind stranded on a baking tray.
"We can't delay any longer, or we'll be dragged to our deaths here sooner or later!"
She looked around, quickly picked up a broken bone from the ground, and hurled it at the rock wall like a javelin.
The landing point was exactly on the upper left of the path that had previously caused the obstacle, which could barely serve as a step.
Hearing the noise, Fang He turned his head towards her and asked loudly, "What are you doing?!"
"Climb up!"
As Xiao Cheng answered, he took advantage of a lull in the corpse's attack to push himself up and test the weight-bearing capacity of the two bone fragments.
Surprisingly, it's somewhat reliable.
The corpses seemed to sense her intentions, and even temporarily abandoned Fang He, baring their fangs and claws as they pounced on her.
They gathered in clusters below the rock wall, and Xiao Cheng was now stuck, unable to go up or down, his situation suddenly becoming extremely awkward.
