Chapter 27 The Mental Illness Ward (11)

The door opened, and according to the schedule, they had three hours of free time.

The blinding sunlight pierced through the dark clouds and shone into the glass ward. A bright red countdown appeared on all four walls, but the events that had just happened were so sudden that no one voluntarily left the ward.

Su Xin's eyes were bloodshot, and she looked much more haggard in just over ten minutes. Noticing Xiao Cheng's gaze, she lunged at the glass wall as if grasping at a straw, looking at her pleadingly.

The door opened, and the glass wall was no longer soundproof. Her weak voice reached Xiao Cheng's ears: "Help me."

She took the medicine; the candy coating contained worms, clearly an ominous sign.

But Xiao Cheng was powerless to do anything about it. She couldn't possibly cut the pill out again, so she could only try her best to comfort her: "Let's get through the customs as soon as possible. Nothing might happen."

Su Xin collapsed to her knees, sobbing silently. Xiao Cheng looked at her helplessly, not even noticing when Fang He had appeared.

"Shall we go?" He patted Xiao Cheng on the shoulder. "The sun is out."

Only the two of them chose to go to the small garden.

Su Xin had a ticking time bomb inside her body, and the patients in beds 3 and 4 felt that they should be on the safe side on the first day.

"What do you think?" Xiao Cheng asked.

“They’re wasting their time.” Fang He pushed open the glass door leading to the small garden forcefully. “We’re patients now, but who knows what will happen after the treatment is over.”

The temperature outside was higher than in the ward, and the dark green vines looked serene. The rose bushes not far away looked like they had just been watered, with glistening water droplets on the petals and leaves, shining brightly in the sunlight.

"Should we try to go a little further away?" Xiao Cheng bent down and tried to tighten her trouser legs as much as possible.

"It's hard to say, after all, the gardener didn't tell us where to find him." Fang He tugged at his sleeve, covering all the scabbed wounds on his arm. "What truth do you think he wants to know?"

“Go ask him. We two patients went through so much trouble to find him. It’s not unreasonable for him to answer our two questions, is it?” Xiao Cheng said in a matter-of-fact tone.

Fang He and she shared the same idea: "Then let's go, after all, we only have one hour."

The rose bushes were deeper than I had imagined. There were only a few flowers in bloom, but there were quite a few thorns, sharp and hard, that could pierce through the fabric even through a layer of clothing.

Xiao Cheng's skin only had a few white scratches, but Fang He's condition was much worse. He already had injuries on his arm, and the thorn had reopened the scabs that hadn't fully healed, causing more blood to seep out and stain his hospital gown.

"Are you sure you can handle this?" Xiao Cheng stopped and turned to look at him. "If your wound gets infected, this hospital won't have any medicine to save you."

"It's alright, the thorns don't cut deep and aren't poisonous, they just look scary." Fang He dodged the broken branches under his feet. "Keep going, we're almost there."

The moment I left the rose bushes, a cloyingly sweet fragrance assaulted my nostrils. The flowers before me were an overwhelming, dark expanse, blanketing the grass. Between the black flowers and the roses, a long, barren strip of land, several meters wide, formed a natural boundary.

Xiao Cheng and Fang He did not rush over. They stood at one end of the open space and looked over there.

"What kind of flower is this?" Xiao Cheng raised her hand to cover her mouth and nose. "Black flowers? What kind of flower can smell this good?"

“I’ve never seen this before. It must be a variety that the gardener created himself.” Fang He rolled up his sleeves and checked the wound for any remaining thorns. “Don’t rush off. I’ll throw something over there to test it out.”

After he finished speaking, he took out a small piece of metal from his pocket, weighed it in his hand, and after getting a feel for it, he tossed it toward the black flower.

"Wait!" Xiao Cheng blocked his arm and snatched the piece of metal from his palm.

It was silver, distorted in shape, with extremely uneven edges, as if it had been broken off from something, and it looked somewhat familiar.

"Where did you get this?" Xiao Cheng looked at him suspiciously. "Did you bring it with you? I don't remember there being such a thing in the ward."

"Yes," Fang He answered frankly. "Do you remember that stainless steel lunchbox?"

Xiao Cheng: "..." Having you is a blessing for lunchbox.

"Don't throw this away. You can sharpen it and use it as a razor blade."

“No need. Also, this is the smallest piece, we won’t need it.” Fang He took out three more large pieces from his pocket. They were from the edge of the box lid, which he had straightened and flattened for easier storage.

Xiao Cheng was silent for a moment, then waved his hand imposingly: "Smash it! Smash it hard!"

Judging from the way Fang He threw the shard, he must be quite skilled at skipping stones. The metal piece flew out steadily, accurately, and swiftly, tracing a bright arc in the sunlight before slicing into the black flower bushes.

The large expanse of petals suddenly trembled violently, then fluttered up, covering the sky with a dark, gleaming mass, like a rising, boundless black mist.

The floral fragrance grew stronger and stronger, almost solidifying, flowing from the nasal cavity into the lungs.

The petals that had been floating around dispersed for a moment, then suddenly gathered together, before scattering again and rushing towards the two of them.

"Holy crap!" Xiao Cheng's pupils contracted sharply as she finally saw it clearly.

These weird things aren't flower petals at all, but black beetles wrapped in pills!

"What are you standing there for? Run!" Fang He grabbed Xiao Cheng's wrist and turned to run without thinking.

The rose bushes severely hampered their progress, and the insects, like a black storm, drew ever closer.

"Do you have any insect repellent?!" Xiao Cheng was almost nauseated by the smell of the insects; she had never been chased by insects so miserably in her life.

Fang He kept his head down and cleared the way, not having time to answer her at all. He pushed aside the obstructing rose branches, and the two of them rushed and bumped their way through the flowers, carving a crooked path.
