Chapter 462: Charles' Girlfriend is Belgian
It was quite a hassle for Lucia and her family to get to Antwerp.
They first went to the train station, but the conductor politely told them: "Sorry, sir. The train to Antwerp will not be until tomorrow morning at the latest."
"Why?" Mr. Girard wondered. "I remember there were many trips before."
It's just to Antwerp, only 59 km.
"There are only two trains now, sir," the conductor replied, "and you just missed the last train of the day."
"Only two trips?" Mr. Girard was stunned.
The conductor explained, "Antwerp is the front line, sir. Charles is organizing a defense line there, and we must ensure that military supplies are delivered to the soldiers first. Therefore, all other trains are converted to transport supplies."
Mr. Gillard was speechless. He looked back at the others, who also looked helpless.
This is as it should be. Military supplies should of course be given priority during wartime.
After a moment of silence, Mr. Girard gritted his teeth and said, "Let's call a taxi."
"But taxis are not cheap these days, Dad." Lucia began to back out.
"Then you should go." Girard walked out of the train station without looking back.
There were several taxis parked outside the train station. Girard went up to ask about the price and his expression changed instantly: "This is impossible. It only cost about 100 francs before, but now it costs 500 francs?"
(The picture above shows the Belgian franc, which was issued in 1851 and replaced by the euro in 2002)
Mrs. Girard followed and asked the driver in confusion after understanding the situation: "The Germans have surrendered, why is it more expensive than before?"
"And it's five times more expensive!" Stein glared at the driver angrily: "It must be a capitalist taking advantage of this opportunity to make a fortune!"
"Hey." The taxi driver looked at Stein dissatisfiedly:
"We are not capitalists, son. We just make a small profit to support our family."
"The reason why it's so expensive is that during the war, all the fuel in the country was collected and given to the Shire's troops."
"Until now, the fuel we can get is still pitifully small and incredibly expensive, because we still have to ensure that the Shire's tanks and armored vehicles can fight, as well as military vehicles and so on."
"Do you have any problem with this?"
Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. This was also as it should be.
Lucia sighed inwardly, wondering why everything was related to Charles. He was like an unforgettable nightmare in her mind, or like a shadow. Although he was not in front of her, she could feel his presence all the time.
"I don't have that much money." Mr. Girard looked at Lucia with an embarrassed look on his face: "I only have 270 francs, which is all our savings."
"Then wait until tomorrow to take the train, Dad," Lucia comforted.
Girard nodded, as if that was the only way.
At this time, someone shouted from the back: "Hey, Lucia, you are Lucia!"
She was a fashionable blonde girl, carrying a small suitcase in one hand and a windbreaker in the other.
"Rost!" Lucia also recognized her. She greeted Rost with surprise and joy and went forward to hug her.
She was Lucia's junior high school classmate and they hadn't seen each other for many years.
"Where are you going?" Rost glanced at the taxi next to him.
"We were going to Antwerp, but..."
Rost understood instantly: "You are going to see Ciel? Right?"
Lucia gave a bitter smile. More people knew about this than she imagined, even Rost knew about it.
But this doesn't seem strange. As long as one classmate knows about it, it will soon spread to all the classmates or acquaintances who can be contacted.
The reason is that Charles is too famous, especially in Belgium, this guy is simply a savior.
Rost looked around and seemed to have guessed what was going on. She went up to greet Mr. Girard and Girardev politely, then took out the money and handed it to the driver: "Antwerp, no need to change."
As the driver took the money, Rost tilted his head, smiled and said, "You're lucky, sir, that's Charles' girlfriend standing there."
The driver's eyes widened instantly, and his hand holding the money stopped in mid-air. He looked at Lucia and then back at Rost: "No, this is impossible..."
Rost nodded slightly with a blank expression: "Does anyone dare to joke about this? That's the Shire! Besides, why don't you ask about their destination?"
Stein took a small step forward, puffed out his chest and said proudly, "We are going to the Antwerp Airport, sir. General Charles should be there."
The driver was stunned for a moment, then quickly pushed back Rost's money and jumped out of the car. He walked respectfully to Lucia, took the luggage from her and put it in the car.
"Excuse me ma'am, it's my pleasure to be of service to you."
"I promise to take you safely to Antwerp..."
"No, no, I'll wait for you to come back together. It's not easy to find a car in Antwerp. It's the front line, and even if there is a car, there is no gasoline."
"No, no, no money...it's my pleasure!"
After finishing, he murmured: "God, Charles' girlfriend, she is in my car! Unbelievable!"
…
Antwerp Airport, the taxi slowed down and finally stopped at the airport gate.
Stein jumped out without waiting for the car to stop and almost fell down amid Mrs. Gilead's exclamations and scoldings.
But he didn't care. He raised his head and used his eyes to block the sunlight to look at the fighter plane that had just taken off from the airport, exclaiming "Wow!"
"That's the Camel, that's the Camel fighter!" Stein pointed at the sky and shouted to everyone, "That's the fighter invented by Charles. It has no rivals in the sky. The German planes are vulnerable to it!"
Mr. Girard said "hmm", straightened his suit after getting out of the car, frowned and glared at Stein, a guy who has never seen the world, isn't he worried about losing face in front of Charles?
The moment Lucia got out of the car, the guard standing at the door recognized her and immediately came forward to ask: "Lucia, are you here to see the general?"
Lucia nodded.
"Wait a minute." The guard said, "I'll report to the general!"
"Okay." Lucia said, "Thank you!"
After just a few simple words, the relatives, friends and the driver around her all looked at Lucia in amazement.
Mr. Girard nodded slightly with satisfaction, his eyes filled with pride.
Mrs. Girard was so excited that she covered her mouth and almost screamed out loud. Her chest heaved violently and she seemed to be unable to breathe.
Stein swallowed hard and stared at his sister blankly, as if thinking about how to please her.
Although they believed Lucia’s words before, they still couldn’t believe it was true. It was too unreal!
However, the guard's reaction confirmed it.
The driver was also worried that he had been duped. Now it seemed that all this was true. This lady named Lucia was indeed Charles' girlfriend!
"My God, Charles' girlfriend is Belgian!" The driver shook his head in disbelief. "Tomorrow, everyone will go crazy about this. I'm going to be a star!"
