Chapter 02 New Program

Jenny Agnash graduated with honors from a G5 university.

She is very clear about her career plans.

This is now the fifth year of the rise of streaming media.

The British media industry is undergoing an unprecedented wave of transformation.

Among the many media companies, niche and emerging companies have unstable foundations, while established and long-standing companies have rigid systems. These are not the choices she wants.

Her most desired partner was actually Charles Augustus Milverton's media company.

Originally a multinational company providing advertising and public relations services, it later entered the online media field and rose rapidly like a runaway horse. In just five years, its traffic was second only to the BBC, making it one of the top ten news media companies in the UK.

Its founder, Charles Milverton, himself added to the mystique surrounding the company.

His photos have almost never circulated outside the public, and he never attends large gatherings in public.

Even if someone has revealed his appearance, that content will be banned within a short period of time.

His life story is legendary.

He is said to have dual citizenship, with his father being British and his mother Portuguese.

Milwaukee was born in Porto, Portugal, and grew up in the famous spy city of Cascais.

Before coming to England, he had received a red sash from the Portuguese Order of Christ.

However, his arrival in Britain was accompanied by rumors.

Some say he was sent to Britain because he was caught cheating at Estroril, Portugal's largest casino, which is rumored to have been frequented by a well-known British agent.

Furthermore, there are rumors that some of his friends were involved in terrorist organizations that assassinated national leaders. Milwaukee's involvement is also said to be behind this terrorist attack.

However, the latter claim is too far-fetched. After all, if something really that serious were to happen, Milverton wouldn't be so active in Britain.

In any case, the intertwining of various rumors has made Charles Milverton's identity increasingly elusive.

That's why Jenny's purpose in coming to this company became exceptionally clear.

She wants to be the next Isabella Burton or Walter Isaacson.

She also wanted to gain fame by writing biographies, to bring those complex and legendary figures to life in her writing, and to earn her own reputation in the literary world.

Milwaukee's media company is called CAME.

Although he has never given an official explanation, from a grammatical perspective, "came" is a narrative form of the past tense, symbolizing that news and events "have already happened".

This seems to tell people that every news item and every event here actually happened, echoing the company's pursuit of truthfulness and accuracy in news reporting.

Jenny used to work at a top-tier editorial department.

By chance, she learned from someone inside Milford Incorporated that the company urgently needed a secretary, and she immediately submitted an application.

Surprisingly, the competition for this position was not fierce, and Jenny was fortunate enough to get the job thanks to her outstanding resume.

Although the junior secretary's salary is not high and there is no opportunity to gain in-depth access to the company's core news operation model and philosophy, for Jenny, this job represents an excellent opportunity to get close to Milwaukee himself and observe and learn from this mysterious media giant.

In her mind, Charles Augustus Milverton was probably in his fifties, smooth-talking, adept at navigating social situations, and skilled at balancing things. Therefore, his face shouldn't be too wide.

However, Jenny was quite surprised when she met Milverton on the first day. She was wearing old-fashioned black-rimmed glasses and trying to keep a low profile.

Milverton has an oval face, small bone structure, and a light build, with a soft jawline. This may be due to his mixed heritage, making him look exceptionally young; he's not even twenty-five, and his face still has the youthful innocence of a college student. However, his air of authority and tall, upright figure allow him to achieve a wonderful balance between youth and mature masculinity.

She possesses a youthful innocence tempered with sophistication, and a composed demeanor that exudes elegance.

Although his features are not particularly outstanding, they are well-proportioned and pleasing to the eye, making him a natural sight to behold.

What's most captivating are those grey eyes, which gleam with a cool and focused light against the backdrop of gold-rimmed glasses.

Jenny felt awkward after just one glance, unable to imagine herself standing next to him looking disheveled.

Before reporting to work, she quickly reorganized her basic aesthetic standards.

After entering the office, Jenny couldn't help but take a few more glances at the other person.

He looked too young, and even in a dark suit, he couldn't hide his nonchalant frivolity.

Even though he seemed so harmless and casual, Jenny could still sense the innate distance between him.

This fueled Jenny's desire to observe and explore even more.

He was in relatively good spirits on the first day.

The next day, he was in his office, staring blankly at the crystal chandelier on the ceiling.

Jenny asked, "Would Mr. Milwaldton like coffee or tea?"

Milverton lowered his gaze, rubbed his temples, as if a variety of worries weighed on his shoulders. "Hebers has already prepared it for me." He glanced at the thermos next to him.

Hebers?

Jenny keenly grasped the name and immediately felt as if she were facing a formidable enemy.

Mr. Milwaldton actually had other personal secretaries besides her.

"May I ask who Mr. Hebers is?"

“My butler,” Milverton answered immediately, unusually easy to talk to, “has taken care of everything for me, from food and clothing to lodging.”

After saying that, Milwald opened his thermos.

Jenny quickly glanced inside; it was steaming hot, milky-white broth, looking just like milk. Soon, the air was filled with the aroma of beans.

"What's this?"

Soy milk.

"Oh, oh, oh," Jenny responded absentmindedly, but quickly showed a moment of surprise, "Soy milk?"

"Would you like some? I'll share half with you."

Milverton is exceptionally easy to talk to in the morning, as he was yesterday morning.

There is a theory in social psychology called mirror theory—people feel close to others when they do the same things as others.

Jenny wanted to gain Milwaukee's trust and increase her own influence, but she was also curious about what kind of drink could win over her boss's stomach.

So she took her mini cup, ordered a small cup, took a small sip, and exclaimed, "It's so hot!"

Milverton seemed amused by her reaction, and his previously slightly dazed gray eyes brightened.

His expression was like that of a cat that was dozing off, but suddenly saw a ball of fur and was instinctively piqued by its interest.

Sensing the atmosphere had eased, Jenny seized the opportunity to steer the conversation closer: "Mr. Milverton, I've been wanting to ask you a question, may I?"

"ask."

What does the company's name, CAME, mean?

"CAM is an abbreviation of my name, Charles Augustus Milverton."

"So E stands for Entertainment?" Jenny asked tentatively.

“No.” Milvolton smiled slightly and said softly, “CAME, the E is silent.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Jenny realized he had told a terrible joke and was speechless for a moment.

But then she realized that Milwaldton was just joking with her, which made her laugh out loud.

She soon discovered that the boss was always exceptionally talkative and liked to joke around after meals. At first, she thought it was because he was in a good mood after eating, but later she learned that he was very prone to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Especially after drinking sugary drinks or eating sweets, one will start to feel slightly excited, become talkative and relaxed.

He himself seemed completely unaware of this matter.

After exchanging a few jokes, Milverton suddenly changed his tone and said, "I'm planning to launch an independent online program. Go and notify the film and television streaming department to have a meeting. Starting today, we're going to launch an internet video-on-demand service."

"Huh?" Jenny was taken aback.

Milverton adjusted his glasses, his tone calm yet resolute.

"I want the first thing people in the whole of Britain do when they turn on their phones to watch our show."

From print media to online media, and from online media to streaming media, the entire industry in the UK is like a river swept along by the tide.

Meanwhile, Millwallton's CAME is clearly riding the wave.

Jenny's heart couldn't help but flutter with excitement.

She was right.

From the very beginning, I knew that what I was going to observe was such a wise and insightful figure of our time.

His current demeanor is languid, harmless, and even exudes a touch of human charm, but no one can forget that he possesses a powerful force capable of explosive power and a fatal blow.

His gray eyes always calmly scrutinized the world.

Jenny planned to copy down Milverton's words as the opening of her biography.

Milverton is said to be based on Charles Augustus Howell, and I've added his background here, such as his parents, being caught cheating at a casino, and his friend's involvement in the assassination attempt on Napoleon III, with Charles also suspected of being involved.
