I Farm and Survive in the Apocalypse

Bi Qiao'an lay weakly in the ice and snow, watching the heavy snow bury her alive. Thinking back to her three years of solitary survival in the apocalypse, her consciousness gradually blurred. ...

Chapter 185 You've Mistaken Me

After get off work on Friday, Shen Yanming decided to take Bi Qiaoan to see Grandpa Lin to check on her health and see how her condition was improving.

However, before going, Shen Yanming made a phone call to Zhang Heping.

At the hospital, Zhang Heping had just stepped out of the conference room when his phone rang.

He held a stack of documents in his left hand, flipping through them, while his right hand answered the phone and held it to his ear, talking on the phone as he walked.

"How have you been lately? It's been a while since I've seen you."

"I'm so tired. Recently, the hospital has seen a lot more patients with fevers, and their symptoms are very strange!"

"How so?"

"They initially had ordinary fever symptoms, and then about a week later, ulcers began to appear on some part of their bodies, some starting from the fingers, some from the toes, and some from the abdomen."

In short, it may not start from any particular part, but ulceration and infection are inevitable.

We tried many medications, but none could stop the patient's body from continuing to ulcerate. Eventually, the patient suffered organ failure and died.

Shen Yanming tried hard to recall his memories of his past life, but he couldn't recall any information about this disease. It seems that this was another butterfly effect that brought it to light.

Is it contagious?

"I don't know. We haven't found any cases yet. The doctors and nurses have been in contact with them for more than ten days, and so far there has been no evidence of human-to-human transmission."

Shen Yanming was still not optimistic. "Make sure you wear your mask and goggles properly and take good care of yourself."

Zhang Heping chuckled lightly, "I know. By the way, what's the matter that you called?"

"I was originally planning to go to Grandpa Lin to have Qiao An take a pulse, but I called you because I haven't seen you come home for so long, so I brought you some good food."

"I appreciate your kind words, but unless you're seriously ill, you two shouldn't go to the hospital anytime soon. It's really not safe. Once I've finished my work here, just make me something nice to eat when I get home."

"Okay, take care of yourself. Call me if anything happens."

After hanging up the phone, Shen Yanming frowned.

Although he and Zhang Heping didn't exchange many words on the phone, he could hear the seriousness in Zhang Heping's tone. It seemed that things were not simple and the situation might be more serious than they imagined.

Shen Yanming did not insist that Bi Qiaoan see a doctor, but instead took her home directly.

After Zhang Heping hung up the phone, he bumped into a middle-aged woman carrying bedding, a washbasin, and a rice bowl without noticing.

Zhang Heping's documents were scattered all over the floor, as were the woman who bumped into him; her washbasin and rice bowl clattered and fell to the ground.

Zhang Heping quickly picked up the documents, then picked up the basin and rice bowl that had fallen to the ground and put them back next to the woman before reaching out to help her up. "Sister, are you alright? I'm so sorry, I was a little distracted just now. Shall I take you to get checked out?"

The woman, who had fallen to the ground, kept her head down as if she were afraid to see anyone, neither speaking nor moving.

"Sister, can you still move? If not, I'll call a stretcher to carry you."

Although Zhang Heping confirmed that the other person was not seriously injured, he couldn't very well just say, "I know you're fine, I'll be going now!" since the other person had fallen because of him.

Zhang Heping couldn't see the other person's face, but he could see that the other person's shoulders were trembling slightly, and from the sound of breathing, it seemed that the other person was still crying.

Zhang Heping wondered, "Did he hurt himself in the fall?"

Seeing the young nurse walking by in the distance, Zhang Heping called out, "Xiaoqian, come and help me!"

Upon hearing this, a nurse named Xiaoqian ran to Zhang Heping and asked, "Dr. Zhang, what's wrong?"

"I accidentally bumped into this lady and knocked her down. Could you help her up?"

“No problem!” Xiaoxi nodded and squatted down to help the woman who had fallen.

"Sister, let me take you to see Dr. Qin. She's an orthopedic surgeon at the hospital. Let her check if you have any injuries from the fall."

Seeing that she couldn't avoid it any longer, the woman lowered her head and said in a low voice, "I'm fine, you guys go ahead and do your work. I'm just a little tired, I'll get up after sitting for a while."

"The ground is cold, let me help you to a chair over there to sit for a while," Xiaoxi said with a smile.

The woman nodded, her head bowed, and was helped by Xiaoqian to a bench in the corner.

Xiaoqian knew that Dr. Zhang was very busy lately, so she said to Zhang Heping, "Dr. Zhang, you can go ahead and do your work. I'll take this lady to get a check-up in a little while!"

"Hmm!" Zhang Heping was preoccupied with other things and didn't notice what Xiaoqian said at all. He just subconsciously hummed in response.

Upon hearing Zhang Heping's "hmm," the woman breathed a sigh of relief and, following Xiaoqian's lead, sat down on the bench, her expression relaxing somewhat.

Zhang Heping originally intended to leave first, but when he heard the woman's voice, he felt it was very familiar. So, after a moment of stunned silence, he did not leave immediately, but stood there looking at the woman.

After the woman sat down on the bench, she relaxed completely. She wanted to see that familiar person, even if it was just their back, so she raised her head.

But to her surprise, Zhang Heping, who was supposed to leave, was still standing there, watching her.

Looking at the handsome Zhang Heping, the woman instantly felt ashamed and wanted to dig a hole and disappear.

But she couldn't dig a crack in the ground, so she chose to run away, abandoning even her bedding, basins, and bowls.

But she was still a step too slow and was caught red-handed by Zhang Heping.

"Song Qingqing, are you Song Qingqing?" Although Zhang Heping was certain that this was Song Qingqing, the Song Qingqing in front of him was still unbelievable.

"I'm not her, you've mistaken me for someone else. This doctor, please move aside!" Song Qingqing lowered her head and bit her lip tightly. She didn't want to admit her identity; she wanted to preserve her last bit of dignity.

"No, you're Song Qingqing! What happened to you? How come you've changed so much in just one year?"

The woman in front of me, Song Qingqing, had half black hair and half white hair. Her skin was as black as ink, and the wrinkles on her face made her look at least forty years old, but she was clearly only in her twenties!

Xiaoqian hadn't expected things to develop this way; this was a huge scandal. But she wasn't oblivious, so she smiled and said to Zhang Heping, "Dr. Zhang, I have something to do, you two talk first. Oh, by the way, I'll take this lady's luggage to the nurses' station. You can pick it up there after you're done talking."

Zhang Heping nodded. "Thank you!"

After Xiaoqian left, Zhang Heping asked Song Qingqing, "Now that there's no one else here, and since we've known each other for a while, if you encounter any difficulties, you can let me know, and I'll try my best to help if I can."

Although he hated Song Qingqing terribly back then, so much time has passed that he has almost forgotten his disgust. Now, seeing her in such a miserable state, Zhang Heping couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy.

After hearing this, Song Qingqing simply bit her lip and said, "No, there's nothing I can help you with."

Zhang Heping didn't believe him. "Then why are you carrying all this stuff? Are you sick?"
