Bi Qiao'an lay weakly in the ice and snow, watching the heavy snow bury her alive. Thinking back to her three years of solitary survival in the apocalypse, her consciousness gradually blurred. ...
Shen Yanming took off his gloves and held them between his fingertips. He reached down and removed his veil, taking a deep breath.
"Ugh, wearing this thing makes it hard to breathe," he complained.
Bi Qiaoan had already removed the veils from An'an and Nuannuan. She put away the veils for the four of them, then went over and opened the storage box. Looking at the golden honey inside, she was overjoyed.
“There are a few beehives in that tree hole, but they’re too deep for me to reach. To get them, I’d have to chop down the tree. I think that would be against nature, so I’ll stop here.”
Shen Yanming explained the situation to the Ding family, worried that if any of them went back to check and found that the cleaning hadn't been done properly, it would cause a rift.
Ding Rongquan didn't think too much about it. He nodded and said, "That's already a lot. We don't need the rest."
Then, staring at the beehive with a hint of anticipation, he looked at his own claws and gave up. "Ugh, it's covered in dirt, it's not clean."
"Yanming, your gloves are covered in honey. Why don't you squeeze it out and filter it for us?" Ding Rongquan asked.
Shen Yanming nodded: "Sure, it's just a side thing, and it's not tiring." He then put his rubber gloves back on.
Ding Xunye took out two pieces of white gauze from her bag: "Do you need these?"
Shen Yanming hummed in agreement, but added, "Do you need any? If you do, just put them away and don't waste them. Qiao An brought some."
Ding Xunye wasn't sure if her family needed anything, so she looked up at Ding Rongquan. Ding Rongquan was exasperated, feeling that his eldest niece didn't seem very bright.
Ding Rongquan was about to speak when he saw Bi Qiaoan take out gauze: "It's okay, use ours. Yours looks pretty white, you should save it for something else." It's good for bandaging a wound or as a drawer cloth.
Ding Rongquan nodded, signaling Ding Xunye to put the cloth away.
Here, Shen Yanming picked up a piece of honeycomb, but it was too big, so he broke it into several smaller pieces.
The beehive was fairly clean, without any dirt or fallen leaves. He looked closely and found some bee pupae inside, so he took the little white pupae out and put them on the lid of the plastic bucket.
"Would you like to eat bee pupae? If so, take them; if not, we'll collect them and throw them away later." It's a terrible waste to not be able to return them.
Shen Yanming sighed inwardly, but did not show it.
Ding Rongquan swallowed hard as he looked at the large, white worms wriggling in the air. To be honest, he wasn't really afraid of them; after all, he was a man who had once enjoyed a whole worm feast in the Southern Province.
"Don't you want it? This is high-protein food!" Ding Rongquan asked, his eyes wide.
Shen Yanming pursed his lips and shook his head, saying, "I've never eaten it before, and I don't dare to eat it. If you want it, take it away quickly." Although he wasn't afraid, he still felt somewhat uncomfortable looking at the large white worm.
Ding Rongquan didn't move, but looked at Bi Qiaoan, An'an, and Nuannuan. Seeing that the three of them all took a few steps back in unison, he chuckled and said, "Yes, yes, yes, this will be crunchy when it's baked."
"Oh, then once all these beehives are cleared out, you can have a delicious meal. I happened to bring some seasonings, which can help you season it," Shen Yanming teased him with a smile.
To everyone's surprise, Ding Rongquan nodded quite firmly: "Yes, yes, yes, that's exactly how it should be!"
Next, Ding Rongquan squatted down next to Shen Yanming, staring intently at the large white pupae without moving. Bi Qiaoan felt her eyes hurt, so she pulled An'an and Nuannuan to wander around the area.
A dozen minutes later, the mother and her two children returned, and dozens of bee pupae were lying on the plastic lid.
"Sigh, they're all little lives!" Bi Qiaoan thought to herself, but she didn't intend to stop them. After all, she was a meat-eater too, and she didn't know how many animals she had killed for those animals kept in the space.
An'an and Nuannuan leaned forward and poked the big white pupa with their little fingers. The pupa wiggled, which scared the two children so much that they quickly withdrew their fingers, looking guilty and frightened.
"Come here, little ones, don't bother Daddy." Bi Qiaoan beckoned, and the two children ran over excitedly. They nestled against Bi Qiaoan, looking incredibly well-behaved, showing no trace of their earlier mischievousness.
“Hey, I have some plastic bottles here, you can just pour the honey into them,” Ding Rongquan said with a smile.
Shen Yanming nodded, gesturing for him to place the bottle over. Then, he placed a piece of gauze above the bottle opening and gently squeezed the honeycomb inside. A stream of clear, floral-scented honey flowed down from the lowest point and fell directly into the bottle.
Before long, the bottle was filled. Shen Yanming gestured for him to change the bottle, and Ding Rongquan grinned as he placed a new bottle over. Then he took the full bottle, screwed on the cap, and stuck out his tongue to lick the honey that had dripped onto the bottle clean.
Everyone around Ding Rongquan looked at him with envy, and asked with sparkling eyes, "Is it sweet?"
Ding Rongquan nodded, gave a thumbs up, and said, "It's sweet, and it smells like flowers."
"Really? Let me try it?" Ding Rongquan's older brother said, reaching for the plastic bottle.
Ding Rongquan instinctively blocked with his arm: "What's the rush? We can divide it when we get home."
"Just let me have a taste first. I haven't had candy in two years, and I'm really craving it!" Ding Rongsheng said pitifully.
Ding Rongquan shook his head, refusing to allow it. Ding Rongsheng glared at him, then set his sights on the bottle that Shen Yanming was filling.
"Hey, you can't be so greedy, or people will laugh at you."
Ding Rongsheng rolled his eyes and said dismissively, "Of course you're not craving it since you've already tried it, but I'm definitely craving it since I haven't even tasted it yet. We're all family here, who would laugh at me?"
He had barely finished speaking when Bi Qiaoan couldn't help but burst out laughing. Her laughter caused a huge problem; everyone who had been tense suddenly burst into laughter.
Ding Rongsheng was a little embarrassed at first, but amidst everyone's laughter, he slowly smiled.
Shen Yanming had just finished squeezing a piece of honeycomb when he heard everyone's conversation. He reached into the storage box and broke off a few small pieces: "Here, have a taste, it's genuine honeycomb."
Ding Rongsheng accepted the gift with a smile and thanked him. The other members of the Ding family also stepped forward.
When Shen Yanming noticed that his wife hadn't come over, he raised an eyebrow, broke off a piece of golden honeycomb, placed it in front of him, and gestured with his eyes: "Come here!"
Bi Qiaoan smiled, nudged the two children, and they ran over with beaming smiles. She got up and walked slowly, waiting for the two children to happily eat the honey before Shen Yanming stuffed a piece into their mouths.
With a gentle chew, the honey inside comes out. It's incredibly sweet, with a floral aroma. It's almost too sweet.
Bi Qiaoan reached into her backpack, pulled out a bottle of water, and gulped it down. After finishing, she realized everyone else was looking for water because it was incredibly sweet.
Bi Qiaoan looked at An An and Nuan Nuan and asked them, "Is it sweet?"
The two children nodded: "Sweet!" It was so sweet it almost warmed their hearts.
