The Great Pirate Era.
The great seas surge and churn, powerhouses destroy and annihilate, each fighting their own battles. It's utterly—
Demotivating!
I, Russil Kuro, age tw...
Who is the overlord of the sea?
World Government? Navy? Revolutionary Army? Pirates?
Neither.
These are the sea kings that live in the ocean!
Small sea monsters can render ships sailing in the ocean unable to continue sailing.
Large sea monsters can threaten the survival of an entire island.
And super-sized sea kings can wipe out islands altogether.
This is a super-sized sea king. Even the largest Oars Jr. that Kuro has ever seen would be nothing more than a tooth gap in its size.
How did such a large lanternfish come to be...?
A single slash, at most, would only leave another wound for a sea king capable of swallowing an island; a wisp of bloody skin, already minced into meat, was torn open near the lanternfish's mouth.
The lanternfish's eyes clearly showed pain, but this pain made it even more ferocious. Its mouth opened much wider, and the suction became even stronger. The entire island was shaking, the buildings were rumbling, and a lot of debris was falling from the top.
The surrounding residents, seeing the enormous lanternfish, were thrown into a panic.
This body type is something most people couldn't handle, even Lida. Perhaps she could manage it if she had enough energy, but there's no time for her right now.
Kuro floated in the sky, the smoke from his cigar obscuring his expression. He gripped the hilt of his sword, sheathed it, and assumed an iaido stance.
"One-Sword Style: Hundred Shadow Slash!"
With a single swift stroke, a hundred slashes follow.
With a single swing of his sword, hundreds of black and gold slashes hurtled towards the lanternfish, bombarding its body, tearing off its skin, and revealing its wounds.
The hundred slashes caused the lanternfish's suction as it opened its mouth to suck in the sea to slow down slightly.
"Damn it, do you think I'm some kind of scalpel expert?!"
Kuro gritted his teeth and said something.
This was just a normal slash with domineering power. If he were to unleash hundreds of slashes with advanced domineering power in one go, he wouldn't be able to withstand it.
"puff!"
After a period of stillness, the lanternfish suddenly switched from inhaling to exhaling, creating a massive tsunami of seawater that surged down from above.
This amount of water is enough to flood this island three or four times over.
"Oh My God!"
Sazir, standing some distance away, stared wide-eyed at the scene. Such waves were simply unstoppable; they were beyond human control!
Even Mr. Kuro, who is also a Devil Fruit user, would be helpless if he were knocked over by the waves.
"Run!"
The residents screamed and fled in panic.
But where can these waves go?
"Lion's Might..."
Kuro surged forward against the waves, his arms outstretched. Just as his palms touched the seawater, and the rest of the seawater was almost touching his body, he activated his power.
"Gosho Scroll!"
The overwhelming seawater surged in at that moment, transforming into a gigantic lion's head, which roared as it slammed into the lanternfish.
The seawater slammed into the lanternfish, parting from its body. The force of the impact propelled the lanternfish backward a distance. The water slammed into the sea, creating waves that made the surface of the ocean as turbulent as a storm.
If it's just about inanimate objects, Kuro is confident that he's among the best in terms of usability.
There may be even more unusual Devil Fruits, but this lanternfish couldn't be one.
Despite Kuro's best efforts to control it, the commotion caused by the water mass entering the sea still submerged the beach and harbor, and the water level began to spread to the surrounding area, making Kuro grimace in pain.
"You dare to fight me on the high seas? If I don't wear you down, I'm not Kuro!"
If this were on the open sea, he would have plenty of time to waste with the lanternfish, but this is his territory now. He might be fine if he could just wait it out, but trouble would be brewing on the island.
Because it's too close to the island, any attack with a large range will affect the island, while attacks that are too small won't be effective against a lanternfish of that size.
"ah..."
The lanternfish continued to open its mouth, emitting a dull, drum-like sound that sent chills down one's spine.
It seemed to want to keep sucking, as if it really wanted to suck the island in.
However, its gaze was not on the island; its enormous eyes were fixed on Kuro in the sky above.
That longing was keenly perceived by Clow, who had activated his Observation Haki.
"Laozi?"
Kuro pointed at himself with a strange expression: "I can't be that unlucky, I really don't cheat people."
Is it really that even God can't stand me and sent a super-sized sea king to teach me a lesson?
It can't be that unreliable, can it?
Kuro, not believing it, moved to the side, and sure enough, the lanternfish's eyes moved slightly.
It really is him...
"Does he like some part of my body? Hey, fish, do you want my cape? A navy cape, a symbol of honor, you can't buy it even if you have money." He shouted at the lanternfish.
Since the lanternfish was silent and Kuro didn't possess the 'Voice of All Things,' it naturally wouldn't let the fish understand. So, the lanternfish opened its mouth even wider, preparing to repeat its previous trick.
This scene felt somewhat familiar to Lida.
It's as if I've heard this rumor somewhere before.
She stared at the lanternfish's enormous eyeballs, and as they moved, Lida looked at Kuro, who was moving through the air. With his movement, the earrings became even more dazzling in the sunlight.
Subconsciously, Lida had a flash of inspiration.
“Kuro! Pure gold! It’s pure gold!” Lida shouted.
"What the heck?"
Kuro turned to look at Lida and paused for a moment.
