I Led the Entire Village out of Poverty and to Prosperity

Tiger Mountain Village, a provincial-level poverty-stricken village, had worn out three successive poverty alleviation cadres, yet it still maintained a stagnant attitude.

Chapter 146: Meeting an Old Acquaintance

In the office of the Personnel Section of the Dongjiang County Education Bureau, four staff members were drinking tea, chatting, reading newspapers, smoking, and talking and laughing as another day passed.

Until a knock on the door broke the leisurely tranquility.

"Hello, comrade."

A shabby middle-aged man walked in, hunched over, speaking broken Mandarin, and humbly handed over a few sheets of A4 paper with a smile, "Please take a look, is my information ready now?"

The middle-aged woman leaning against the door frowned and flipped through it casually. "On your service length recognition form, there is only the school's seal, but not the seal of your Education Commission. Go back and get it stamped."

The poor man had a bitter face and complained, "You didn't tell me you wanted the Education Commission's seal last time!"

The middle-aged woman glanced up at him with her eyes slanted, "Do you need someone to teach you about this? Don't you know how to ask? If everyone does things like you, wouldn't we be exhausted every day?"

The poor man gritted his teeth, a trace of anger flashed in his eyes, but it quickly dissipated and he smiled again, "Then please help me take a look at it again, and see if there are any other problems, so that I can fix them together."

The middle-aged woman shook the newspaper in her hand and said without looking up, "Let's get this done first."

The poor man pleaded, "Comrade, you see, I don't live in Dongjiang either. It's not easy to come here, and the fare is expensive. I've already made three trips just for this matter. People can bear it, but the money can't bear it!"

The middle-aged woman slapped the newspaper on the table and said, "That's your problem! What's the procedure? Can you do it?"

The poor man stared at the woman in front of him with his fists clenched.

Under the nervous gaze of the other three, he suddenly threw the information in his hand to the ground and said, "I'm not going to do this anymore!"

He pointed at the middle-aged woman indignantly, his fingers trembling with anger, "The government's reputation is being ruined by parasites like you who are just sitting there doing nothing! You flaunt your power with just a little bit of power! You...you will get your comeuppance!"

After saying that, the man hurried out of the room.

Seeing that he didn't do anything, the rest of the people in the room breathed a sigh of relief.

Before they could say anything, they saw the man walking back and everyone became nervous again.

Then they saw the man squatting silently and picking up the papers scattered on the ground.

The middle-aged woman snorted and stepped on one of the forms with her foot. Another colleague nearby couldn't bear to watch it anymore and coughed. The middle-aged woman then reluctantly released her foot and let the man squatting on the ground pick up the form with the clear footprints.

After the man walked out, the colleague who had coughed to remind him said half-jokingly and half-truthfully: "Sister Chen, your dog is sick and upset, but the people who came to do business have suffered an unexpected disaster!"

"It's his bad luck! Who asked him to hit me with the gun?" The middle-aged woman snorted, "If you hadn't spoken up, I would have made him lose face!"

Another person in the office said, "Don't go too far. What if he gets upset and complains to the director?"

"You're just worrying about this unnecessarily!" An old man took a sip of tea and chuckled.

Everyone suddenly realized that Sister Chen’s man was the Party Committee member of the Education Bureau and the Director of the Admissions Office.

So, everyone was silent for a moment, and then put the matter behind them. The matter concerning an office was the only thing that concerned them, and the rest could be put behind them.

On the other side, the middle-aged man walked out of the office in grief and anger. He carefully folded the papers and put them into the inner pocket of his clothes. He walked down the stairs with dull and lonely eyes.

A young couple passed him by.

Then the pretty girl, whose simple clothes could not hide her graceful figure, stopped and stared at the middle-aged man's back.

"What's wrong?" The young man was Huo Qianli, looking at Jiang Qingyue curiously.

Jiang Qingyue said softly: "Do you know that my father used to be a teacher in our village primary school?"

Huo Qianli nodded, and Jiang Qingyue continued, "After my dad got into trouble, the village primary school was short of people, but other teachers were unwilling to come, so later they recruited a private teacher. That teacher was very good, he taught me and my sister, but later the Hushan Village Primary School was cancelled, and it happened that the private teachers were promoted to regular teachers, and he didn't seem to be promoted, and went out to work, and I haven't seen him for many years."

Huo Qianli followed her gaze and asked, "Are you talking about this person?"

“Very similar!”

Jiang Qingyue turned her head and looked at Huo Qianli, "I want to confirm it."

Huo Qianli hummed, "Go ahead. Registration for the college entrance examination is just a small matter, there is no need to rush for it."

As they talked, the two hurriedly chased after him. At the entrance of the Education Bureau, Jiang Qingyue caught up with the middle-aged man and hesitantly called out, "Teacher Yu?"

The middle-aged man was indifferent.

Jiang Qingyue shouted unwillingly again, "Teacher Yu Datong?"

The middle-aged man finally turned his head slowly and saw Jiang Qingyue and Huo Qianli with a puzzled look on his face.

Jiang Qingyue looked at his face, her face lit up with joy, she took two steps forward and said in surprise: "Teacher Yu, it's really you!"

"Who are you?"

"I'm Jiang Qingyue!"

"Oh my! You've grown so big!" The middle-aged man's worried brows finally blossomed into a heartfelt smile, and he said in surprise: "Girls change a lot when they grow up. I can't recognize you!"

The two of them talked about the past. Huo Qianli watched from the side with a smile for a while, then stepped forward and suggested, "Qingyue, there is a teahouse across the street. Why don't we go over there, order a cup of tea, and sit down and chat."

Jiang Qingyue woke up as if from a dream, "Yes, yes, Teacher Yu, let's go over and sit down and talk."

Yu Datong looked at Huo Qianli, "Who is this?"

Jiang Qingyue smiled and said, "Teacher Yu, his name is Huo Qianli, and he is my...boyfriend."
