Chapter 113 So annoying
Neither of them spoke again.
All conversations on the communicator are recorded, and much more is beyond what can be said.
Xie Xingchen hummed in agreement and whispered, "Received. Take care."
For two years, they had no contact. It seems that now, through this simple number, they have reaffirmed that the other person's feelings are still there, and thus they can walk a longer road ahead together.
Xie Dai secretly flew over once, on Lin Yao's nineteenth birthday. It secretly packed a small piece of cake and flew a long distance to the military camp to give it to him.
Xie Xingchen had just finished training when his subordinates saw a round, black lump nestled on the desk and almost smashed it with a folder.
"Is he happy today?" Xie Xingchen chased away the impetuous recruit and lowered his head to taste the orange-flavored cake.
"On the surface, it seemed pretty good. The general's family gave him a very grand birthday party and invited a lot of friends. Everyone was guessing whether Lin Yao was their son." Xie Dai squatted down next to him and kept talking. "But when the birthday party ended, I saw him spacing out. He was probably thinking about you."
Xie Xingchen hummed in agreement: "It's a pity, I didn't even have a chance to celebrate his birthday once."
Xie stared at him, feeling a pang of sadness: "Are you happy?"
Xie Xingchen paused for a second, then smiled and said, "I'm quite happy, thank you for sharing with me. But don't come too often, the old man has a lot of spies here, if you are discovered and caught, all our efforts will be in vain."
"Okay, I won't come again next time." Xie nodded repeatedly. "Then I'm leaving."
"Wait a minute." Xie Xingchen stared at the cake. "Tell me more about Lin Yao's recent activities, anything is fine."
"He's only half-employed, so he has to go back to school to take care of his studies, and he also has to rush back to the military for missions. His schedule is packed, and he doesn't have time to hang out with me."
"But after you left, he became the undisputed number one in Chongqing. His 1v1 fighting style changed from fighting you to fighting Duan Zheng."
"That kid seems much more normal than before. He even said he wanted to join the Sunrise Assault Team with him. It's probably a case of mutual respect between strong people."
Xie Xingchen lowered his eyes, thinking that originally, all of this was related to him.
He nodded slightly and shoved the cake into his mouth: "It sounds like he's working hard to live his life, so I'm relieved."
"And you?" Xie Dai looked up at him. "Is there anything you want me to tell him?"
Xie Xingchen still doesn't dare to ask Lin Yao if his fear of the report has lessened at all. His life is filled with tedious training, and he has very little time to sleep, afraid of dreaming about him.
Waking up means endless training, forcing myself to shift my focus with intense pressure.
He experiences frequent flare-ups, which he still manages to suppress with inhibitors. He doesn't want to deal with it, using this torment to remind himself of the harm he caused Lin Yao in the past.
It seems there's nothing good to convey; it's all just unhappy things.
"That's all." Xie Xingchen tidied up its messy fur. "Go back now."
And so he was back to fighting alone.
He gradually came into contact with Xie Hengzhi's network of connections, which was extensive and complex, spanning the military and political spheres as well as other star systems. Xie Xingchen began to realize that the laboratory was probably just the beginning of his lust for power.
This collaboration and his encounter with Lin Yao was purely accidental. He suspected it was a test by Xie Hengzhi to see if he had truly forgotten his feelings.
Xie Xingchen had no intention of meeting him, and the other party understood, so they only communicated through a communicator. After the battle, they also withdrew swiftly.
Xie Xingchen really wanted to see if he had lost weight, if his hair had grown longer or shorter, if he had gotten a tan, and if he was more enthusiastic or colder towards people now.
He jumped from the aircraft flashing blue lights and boarded one of the enemy's abandoned planes in the war zone.
This is far too risky.
Others might not remember where this aircraft came from, but Lin Yao has a photographic memory and would recognize it at a glance. If he noticed it, he might mistake him for an enemy soldier and kill him.
I miss him so much, I really want to see him.
Xie Xingchen hid in the night and silently approached Lin Yao's return flight path, running parallel to him.
"Captain, it looks like someone's following us," the pilot reported, turning around. "That aircraft looks familiar; could it be enemy forces?"
"They've already wiped them all out, and they're still coming alone? Aren't they just asking for death? Some idiot must be blindly following the flight path, not afraid of running into something." Another person retorted, "Idiot."
Lin Yao stared at the flashing surveillance footage on the monitor.
It was one of the enemy's fighter jets that appeared earlier, but after the battle was cleaned up, there shouldn't be any remnants left.
"Approach, move alongside, but don't retaliate yet," Lin Yao whispered.
"Received." The pilot adjusted the angle and slowed down, waiting for the aircraft behind to approach, and gradually they became parallel.
Even though they were still some distance apart, Lin Yao suddenly saw the person sitting inside through the cockpit.
"Xie Xingchen." His lips moved slightly, silently calling his name.
As if sensing something, the other party activated autopilot, turned around, and made eye contact with him.
Lin Yao felt as if his hands and feet were nailed to the ground, unable to move. All that remained was his gaze greedily tracing the other's features. In that brief moment of parallel interaction, time itself seemed to stand still, an infinitely long stretch.
His black hair had become very short, revealing his deep eyebrows and eyes, his pupils were pitch black, and the lower half of his face, which had been covered with iron clasps, was now loosened the clasps the moment he met his gaze.
"Captain, should we attack?" Little Black asked from the side.
"No need, friendly forces." Lin Yao stared at him without blinking.
Several people crowded around to look, whispering, "Holy crap, who's this incredibly handsome guy?"
"Xie Xingchen of Dark Star." Lin Yao had never mentioned his name since they parted ways. These three words were burning in his throat; his heart trembled with every word he uttered.
"What does he mean? We've already finished fighting, what's the meaning of him coming to our flight path?"
Everyone present had heard about the discord between the two and was indignant in their discussions.
"Are they planning to fight us in the air?"
"This is intolerable. After the war, everyone should go home. Why are you coming here all alone to tease the dog?"
"Exactly. He knew our captain didn't like him, yet he still came over and lingered in front of us. He should have been killed as if he were an enemy soldier."
Xie Xingchen stopped using the communicator and just watched him quietly.
Lin Yao looks really cool in his combat suit. He has finally become the person he once wanted to be, and Xie Xingchen is happy for him.
He knew that his actions were already inappropriate and that he should leave immediately, but he couldn't bear to change direction.
"Captain Xie, that's enough." Lin Yao couldn't help but remind him through the communicator, "Your behavior is against the rules."
"Five more minutes, then I'll leave." Xie Xingchen's voice was very soft, as if he were talking to himself. "I'm really happy today, and I want to let loose a bit."
"Captain, what does he mean? What exactly does he mean? Why does it take another five minutes? What is he trying to do?"
The little black guy next to him, who was like a firecracker, couldn't stand it any longer. "We've been flying side by side for ten minutes. If we get any closer, we'll collide!"
Looking at the instruments, he said, "My God, is he trying to take us down with him?! Damn it, I'm going to write a report about him when I get back. Doesn't this count as a violation of military discipline?!"
Lin Yao stared into his eyes and said the words that every mortal enemy would say: "No need, it's not a big deal."
His voice was cold and indifferent, making it seem as if their relationship was truly at its worst.
But his eyes were moist.
"He's just showing off his spoils. He's so childish and annoying."
