I'm a Doctor in the Apocalypse

My name is Lu Xiaonan, and I am a doctor. Three days ago, my friend Su Ming told me that the entire world would face a catastrophe and fall, and to be prepared. At the time, I didn't believe hi...

Chapter 52 Suppurative Infection

(Second update is here, please recommend and favorite!)

Wu Shuang is dead?!

My heart seemed to stop when I saw that lovely girl before me, and I couldn't accept it for a moment.

Pu Weichao took a deep drag of his cigarette, exhaling a ring that didn't quite look like a smoke ring, and said, "I don't know what your relationship is with Wu Shuangshi, but you two must have a good relationship."

I frowned. What did that mean?

Pu Weichao said, "After leaving the hospital that day, I went back with Fei Lichao and told Wu Shuang about your disappearance. I saw her cry for a long time. Later, zombies inexplicably entered the air-raid shelter, so we ran away. On the way, there were too many monsters, and Wu Shuang got separated from us. Later, when we went to look for her, we found her coat, and she was covered in blood."

"Where is the body?" I asked anxiously.

Pu Weichao shook his head: "I don't know, but there are many dead people. The ground is full of corpses, and we can't tell them apart at all. Moreover, Wu Shuang may have turned into a zombie, so we stopped looking and assumed she was dead."

I took a deep breath; it was hard to accept.

It felt like a stone was pressing on my chest, and tears welled up in my eyes. I tried hard not to let them fall and asked, "Where's the air-raid shelter? What happened? Why did it become like that?"

Pu Weichao shook his head: "I don't know, I really don't know. Anyway, when I was sleeping in the middle of the night, I heard screams coming from the direction of the door. Fei Lichao led his men to fight back, but there were too many zombies and they couldn't hold them off, so they had to leave with us."

I nodded. The air-raid shelter had fallen; there was definitely something wrong with that.

However, nobody knows where the problem lies.

Pu Weichao patted my shoulder and said, "Don't think too much about Wu Shuang's matter. Let's talk about you. What happened to you at the hospital? Why didn't you show up?"

Hearing this question, I gave a wry smile, and Yan Zhengfeng's ferocious face appeared in my mind. I said, "Can we talk about it tomorrow?"

"Whatever you want." Pu Weichao didn't pressure me. "Just rest well today. Tell me whenever you want to talk about it."

"Okay." I nodded. "Give me another cigarette."

Pu Weichao shook a cigarette out of the pack, and I took it out and put it in my mouth. He took out a lighter and lit it for me with a click.

"The guest rooms in the back are mostly empty, you can sleep wherever you want." After he finished speaking, he went inside.

"Um."

The moonlight was hazy, and the night wind howled.

I closed my eyes, still unable to accept that Wu Shuang was dead.

When I think of Wu Shuang, the first thing that comes to mind is my time in college. It was during a club activity when I saw her and thought she was quite cute, so I paid more attention to her.

I remember I wanted to ask her for her contact information back then, but the club activity was over, and Zhou Yang dragged me off to play games. I completely forgot about it until today.

The next time we met was after the outbreak of the Erin virus.

After Zhou Yang died, I was almost killed by Zhang Jianzhou. If I hadn't been quick-witted and hid in the laboratory, I would probably be one of the monsters by now.

I remember Wu Shuang hiding in the lounge back then, and I even threatened her, but in the end she was the one who saved my life.

Then came the incident in the air-raid shelter. This girl kept thinking about her boyfriend, but to this day I still don't know his name.

Before I knew it, weariness crept in.

When they entered the restaurant with flashlights, they found that Pu Weichao and Gao Feng had already gone to sleep.

I also went to the guest room at the back and checked on Fei Lichao. His condition had improved considerably compared to before.

Once I was sure I had no time, I found an empty guest room and fell into a deep sleep.

I'm relieved that I didn't dream.

...

The next morning, the sun shone brightly, but the wind remained strong.

The rustling of the mountain forest was intoxicating. I wrapped my coat tighter, went into the corridor, and let out a huge yawn.

I picked at the sleep from the corner of my eye. I slept very well last night, and I completely forgot about Wu Shuang after falling asleep.

Now that I've woken up, these memories are flooding back like a revolving lantern, making me very uncomfortable.

Just then, I heard footsteps coming from the corner of the corridor to my left. I wondered if Pu Weichao had gotten up so early?

I turned my head and met the eyes of the person who had come in, and involuntarily took a step back.

"Yan Zhengfeng!" My eyes widened, and fear involuntarily rose from the depths of my eyes.

There was nothing I could do about it. What he did to me still terrifies me. I pulled on my left trouser leg, and the gunshot and knife wounds on my left leg started to ache faintly!

The person who came was indeed Yan Zhengfeng.

However, Yan Zhengfeng's expression was even more varied than mine at that moment.

He stared wide-eyed, as if he'd seen a ghost, and even took two steps back, staring at me incredulously, as if he were really looking at a ghost.

He swallowed hard, then rubbed his eyes, thinking he must have seen wrong.

After confirming that I was indeed alive, he exclaimed in surprise, "How, how is this possible! I clearly killed you! I saw it with my own eyes!"

I was really scared when I was with him, and I didn't know what to say at all.

He stared at me, his brow furrowed, and took a step closer.

I quickly backed away and said, "Don't come any closer!"

Yan Zhengfeng stared intently at me with his piercing eyes and said, "I shot you twice in the back before. Logically, you shouldn't have survived, but you're standing in front of me now, which means you weren't injured at all back then."

I swallowed hard, unsure of what to do next.

Yan Zhengfeng pondered for a moment and said, "No wonder I felt something was off about you back then. You must have been wearing a bulletproof vest."

"So what if it is, so what if it isn't!" I blurted out those words as if possessed, and I really wanted to slap myself.

Yan Zhengfeng snorted coldly and shook his head, "What else can I do? Of course, I'll kill you again!"

As he spoke, he pulled a pistol from his waist and pointed it at my head!

"No!" I instinctively raised my hand and backed away.

Yan Zhengfeng sneered, "You killed my wife and son, so it's only right that I kill you. I failed last time, so it's not unreasonable for me to make up for it this time, is it?"

I closed my eyes and said, "I'll say it again, I didn't kill your wife, and I certainly didn't kill your son!"

"You don't need to make excuses. I won't believe anything you say. Only when you're dead can I be at peace!"

As he spoke, he was about to pull the trigger.

"Hey, hey, hey, hey..." Suddenly, Pu Weichao appeared out of nowhere and blocked the way between me and Yan Zhengfeng. "Holy crap, what's going on with you two? Why are you so excited as soon as you meet? Yan Zhengfeng, put down your gun first."

Yan Zhengfeng did not lower his gun; it remained pointed at my head.
