Chapter 598 The Stalker

Zhang De looked helpless. "I know, but I'm just not willing to accept it. If I really have to live in the building, what I fear most is..."

I said, "I know what you're afraid of. Going into the building won't do you any good. You should prepare first. When they arrive tomorrow, hand over the first offering. As for what happens next, we'll figure out a way later. We'll always find a way."

Zhang De nodded and said nothing more.

Jiang Xiaoxiao has not yet woken up.

After Hu Fei and I left Zhang De's office, we ran into Fu Sheng, the high school student from before. I also went to check on Cai Yingying. She seemed fine and hadn't been infected, but she still hadn't woken up, which worried Fu Sheng.

Hu Fei and I went outside the teaching building, and Hu Fei said, "Are you planning to help them?"

I shook my head and said, "I don't know. You've seen their situation here; it's not so easy to help them."

Hu Fei nodded: "That's true. If we had more people, we could just grab our weapons and wipe out that building."

I said, "Let's leave it at that for now. The situation here has nothing to do with us. I only care about Jiang Xiaoxiao. As for the others, we'll help if we can, and leave if we can't. There's nothing we can do about it."

Hu Fei said, "What if Jiang Xiaoxiao asks you for help later? Will you help her?"

When the night was deep and quiet, Hu Fei and I began to look outside for the guy who was stalking us.

There are only a few places to hide around the school, so we easily found the guy who was stalking us on the second floor of a residential building next to the school.

When we found him, he was eating.

Hu Fei and I appeared here with flashlights, then pretended not to know anything and went inside.

Just then, the guy keeping watch inside saw us appear and exclaimed in surprise, "Who!"

"Holy crap, someone's here!" Hu Fei exclaimed in surprise.

Then, the other person turned on their flashlight and pointed it at us. I saw that this guy had a gun in his hand, and the muzzle was pointing at us.

"Who are you people?" the guy keeping watch asked us, looking at us with a puzzled expression.

I looked at the pistol in his hand and pretended to be scared, saying, "Um, brother, I'm sorry, we're just wanderers who came here and are just looking for something to eat."

The guy keeping watch looked at us and asked, "You're not from the school?"

"School? What school?" Hu Fei asked, feigning confusion.

The guy keeping watch didn't seem to trust us, so I said, "Brother, I see you have a lot of food. Could you share some with us? We haven't eaten for two days and we're starving."

The man keeping watch frowned and said, "Get lost! Don't bother me."

I said, "Brother, don't be so heartless. We're all human beings. We're desperate and starving, otherwise we wouldn't be begging you. Brother, please have pity on us, okay?"

The guy staring at us hesitated for a moment, then glanced at the few loaves of bread beside him, took one out and tossed it to us, saying, "Take this and get lost, don't bother me."

"Thank you, thank you, brother."

I hurriedly tore open the bread and started eating, but Hu Fei started trying to take it from me.

Instead of leaving, we asked, "Brother, you seem to have something on your mind here. Can you tell us about it?"

"What's it to you? Get the hell out of here, you hear me?!"

I shamelessly continued, "Brother, I can tell you're definitely part of the team. I don't know what you're doing here, but could I beg you, could you take us in? We can do anything. If you tell us to go east, we'll definitely go west."

The person keeping watch seemed to find me annoying. He pointed a gun at me and said, "Get the hell out of here, or I'll shoot you dead, you hear me!"

I quickly took a few steps back and said, "Brother, don't be angry. We had no choice. We just wanted to find a safe place to live. As long as we have food to eat, we'll do anything."

The person keeping watch on us frowned, clearly annoyed.

"I'll say it one last time, get the hell out of here!"

I quickly pulled Hu Fei out of the house and onto the stairs.

Hu Fei looked at me and whispered, "It's not working, what should we do?"

I said, "Don't rush."

As I said this, I took out a pack of cigarettes from my pocket, then carefully went to the door and said to the person inside, "Brother, we really have nowhere else to go. Could you please take us in? I have a pack of cigarettes here, please take it as a token of our appreciation."

I tossed the cigarette inside, and I saw the other person at the door promptly take it.

Then, I happily took one out and smoked it.

Seeing his actions, I smiled and went back into the house, asking, "Brother, is it good?"

The person keeping watch on us looked at us with less disgust than before and asked us directly, "Where did you two come from?"
