Chapter Ninety: The Reincarnated Matchmaker

The old man taught Yan Shi how to use his fingers to calculate marriage prospects, and explained the rules of the sect, thus eliminating any taboos associated with fortune-telling. Yan Shi, having nothing better to do, experimented on the people around him, but he wasn't sure how accurate his calculations would be for the time being.

After taking care of my roommate's funeral arrangements, I continued my journey back to District Seven, only to find that Si Yue had caught up with me.

After Cui Ying left, Yan Shi delivered the zongzi to Bu Ke and Jiang Lang, and the two of them set off with the zongzi in their pockets.

Yan Shi watched the two skipping and jumping out of the house with envy, and she also wanted to skip and jump out to play.

Zhuang Zhao pulled her back onto the bed.

"Let me massage it for you, so you don't complain about the soreness later."

"Trust your sister. Indulging in sex is not good. You have to take it easy, or what will you do when you get tired of it?" Yan Shi said earnestly.

"How could I get tired of it? Sister, you have to trust your brother. He's young and energetic, he can handle it."

"Pah! I can't take it. My old bones can't withstand your torment."

"What nonsense are you talking about, sister? You're in your twenties, in the prime of your life. Not to mention you're well-maintained. Everyone would praise your youthful beauty and captivating charm."

"I've noticed your words are getting sweeter and sweeter. Don't you find it cheesy?" Yan Shi was flattered by the compliment. Even though she felt unworthy of such praise, she was still happy to hear it.

"I only feel numb when it's with my older sister." Zhuang Zhao bent down and his hand became increasingly restless as he leaned close to Yan Shi's ear. Yan Shi slapped his hand away.

"A quiet place during the day."

"I didn't intend to do anything," Zhuang Zhao said innocently.

Yan Shi closed her eyes to enjoy the massage, not wanting to banter with him.

Yan Shi was afraid of pain, and Zhuang Zhao felt sorry for her, so although they clung to each other tightly, they didn't engage in actual sex too frequently.

He only tasted it briefly, but once he tasted the marrow, he was still not satisfied. The aftertaste was endless, and he kept thinking about it. Only then did he realize what it meant to go from extravagance to frugality.

On the morning of the Dragon Boat Festival, Zhuang Zhao woke up Yan Shi.

"Sleep a little longer," Yan Shi said, hugging the blanket and refusing to get up.

"Go back to sleep when you get back."

"don't want."

"Come with me, my dear. They have a tradition that if you cross the Eighty-Eight Bridges before sunrise on the Dragon Boat Festival, your wishes will come true."

"I think you're dreaming. If you could just walk across a bridge and have your wishes fulfilled, what's the point of fighting for anything?"

"But I want to leave." Zhuang Zhao's eyes were downcast, her lips were turned down, and she looked aggrieved.

"Come on, come on, let's go. How can we not go if Zhuang Zhao wants to?" Yan Shi resigned himself to his fate, scratched his head, got up to wash up, and only felt more awake after splashing cold water on his face.

"I really owe you something. You don't let me sleep at night, and I still have to get up in the morning. At least you gave me enough sleep when I was in school."

"It's not like you didn't stay up late reading novels when you were in school. You clearly liked them too, but you're pushing all the blame onto me." Zhuang Zhao said as she handed Yan Shi some face wash, then quickly washed her own face as well.

Yan Shi applied layers of lotion, cream, and sunscreen to her face, and Zhuang Zhao followed suit, applying layers of the same product to her face.

"Use less. Men's skin is tough, so there's no need for such meticulous skincare." These skincare products were something Yan Shi had painstakingly acquired at great expense, and he didn't know when he could get more, so he was using them sparingly.

"That won't do. Why don't guys need to take care of themselves? I need to rely on my good looks to keep you here."

"You're still so young. Just pay attention to your diet and maintain a regular sleep schedule. If you don't get acne, you won't end up looking ugly."

After a noisy wash-up, Yan Shi deliberately chose a less-than-everyday dress, then groomed her eyebrows and applied lipstick.

"Since we're all up, we have to make a scene. I'm the brightest star on the street."

The wedding was seven days later. In those seven days, everything changed. The baby was gone, the bride was gone, and the groom was single again.

The couple argued about money and their ambiguous relationship. The bride, heartbroken, broke up with him and wanted to have an abortion. The groom didn't think he had done anything wrong, stubbornly refusing to admit it, and didn't think she was really heartless enough to have an abortion, so he didn't stop her.

As a result, the bride was hit by a driver who suffered a heart attack as soon as she stepped out of the house, and died before she could even get to the hospital.

Yan Shi was stunned. When she arrived at the hospital and saw her roommate's body, she faced the death of someone close to her for the first time. She rushed over and beat the groom so badly that his own mother wouldn't recognize him.
