Chapter Sixty-Eight: Reinforcements Are Coming

"I'll take you to the Sang family for refuge."

"Then there's no need to go to the Sang family." The Sang family are all array masters. Their single-target attacks aren't particularly strong, but their defense is definitely top-notch. After the Seventh District's grand array was destroyed last time, a new refuge was added—the Sang family. It's specifically for protecting warlocks, aliens, and professional elites who have received refuge invitations, serving as the capital for the Seventh District's comeback.

“Why not? This is definitely the largest one to date. I’ll contact Quan Hou and have him contact the higher-ups to prepare for war in advance.”

"You and your child will have to take care of yourselves. It's not too late to go back to District Nine now."

Zhuang Zhao quickly and efficiently handed the baby and stroller to Su Meiren, then took out a suitcase to prepare refuge supplies for Yan Shi.

By the time Yan Shi remembered Su Meiren, she had already left with the child.

"I don't know where she'll go."

"Let her go wherever she wants."

The higher-ups confirmed the abnormal behavior of the aliens via satellite and activated a high-level alert. The warlocks and aliens who were not good at combat were all taken refuge at the Sang family home to provide logistical support.

Evacuate ordinary people, guide them to safety, and set up barriers such as high-voltage power grids as the first line of defense.

At the hour of the Demon Realm, a group of zombies was detected approaching, and a battle ensued.

Zhuang Zhao used binoculars to search for familiar faces among the zombie horde, wanting to know which zombie king was now.

You can distinguish between zombies and other species by their walking style. Zombies walk steadily and usually only have one person with them. If the person leading the way veers off course, the whole group will stray.

The aliens never travel in an orderly fashion; they hop and leap, deliberately stepping on trees, stepping on zombie heads, and some even drive cars or tractors.

In the area where the alien species were most concentrated, he saw an old acquaintance, the one-eyed one, but he didn't see Su Mei's wife.

As the dark mass approached, the alert level was raised to the highest level, shells were loaded, and once within range, a barrage of bombardment began.

Just when everyone thought it was nothing special, the smoke cleared, but the zombie horde was still mostly intact. A visible barrier protected them, much like the Sang family's magic array.

"This is way too exaggerated."

What humans consider foolproof defensive fortifications are nothing but decorations to them; they only see the enemy advancing relentlessly, without their numbers diminishing.

Seeing that things were not going well, the leaders of District 7 hurriedly sought help from other safe zones in a desperate attempt to make a comeback.

With tens of millions of square kilometers of territory spread across a dozen or so safe zones, and transportation to and from these zones disrupted, it's like fighting a war in ancient times, making support extremely difficult.

More importantly, everyone is in danger right now, each safe zone is independent and autonomous, and there are internal and external troubles. Who would have the heart and the resources to come all the way to help, and what would they get in return?

The leaders of District Seven put themselves in the shoes of the other party and issued a follow-up request for help: District Seven will offer its assistance to anyone who comes to help.

Putting everything else aside, even just being able to collect the body would be helpful.

As Yan Shi watched the live broadcast from the drone, her heart clenched. Seeing the children being brought in one after another, she moved closer to the door.

"Sister, come back." Bu Ke reached out her hand, and Yan Shi reluctantly handed it over.

The Bu siblings also came in to take refuge. Entrusted by Zhuang Zhao, they were to keep an eye on Yan Shi and absolutely not allow her to leave unless absolutely necessary.

"If any alien species gets in here, I'll have to step forward to protect myself. Being at the entrance will help me control the situation faster."

"There are no 'what ifs,' we'll see what happens." Bu Ke didn't let go, holding Jiang Lang in his left hand and Yan Shi in his right.

At 8 p.m., the first refuge was breached, and the human living space was compressed to the extreme.

At 8:14, another mutant discovered a refuge, but fortunately, he was eliminated before he could notify his companions, thus preventing any harm to the refuge.

At 8:40, the higher-ups decided to abandon District 7 and flee towards District 9.

During the breakout, the magic circle needed to be deactivated. The warlocks and aliens mingled among the crowd, protecting the ordinary people around them.

At nine o'clock, the crowd began to move.

Zhuang Zhao followed the location and found him. There were several deep scratches on his body that exposed the bone, and he only received the most basic disinfection treatment.

"Are you hungry?" Yan Shi took out bread and water from his bag, and the two sat by the roadside and ate a few bites to fill their stomachs.

While they were having a late-night snack, Bu Ke and his sister were pushed far away by the crowd, and no one they saw was familiar.

Just as the two were about to move forward with the crowd, they heard screams coming from ahead. Yan Shi asked Zhuang Zhao to see what was happening.

"It must be an alien that went out of control; it has already been dealt with."

Yan Shi: I won't ask any more questions.

The riots did not have a major impact; the pessimists were still collapsing, while the optimists remained cheerful and carefree.

The large trucks in front were already parked, loading up and driving off one after another, while the zombies were already catching up from behind.

Some people struggle desperately, pushing forward with all their might, even pushing others into the jaws of death. Others protect others, preferring to be dragged out themselves.

Yan Shi and Zhuang Zhao were separated and moved in opposite directions.

Yan Shi thought to herself, "This won't do. If we separate, we might be swept away by the crowd and start searching for my husband. I have to hurry and reunite with him."

Squeezing through was definitely not an option, so Yan Shi simply moved to the side of the road. There were trees by the roadside, and he climbed up in a few quick movements. He threw the grappling hook from his sleeve at the tree closest to Zhuang Zhao. The iron hook and rope got tangled in the tree, and he couldn't pull it down, so he just swung over.

Zhuang Zhao understood Yan Shi's intention when he saw her fly out. He squeezed through the crowd and moved towards the tree. Although he didn't catch Yan Shi when she swung over, he caught her when she came down from the tree.

"It's a good thing you had the suitcase, otherwise I wouldn't have dared to leave it behind and come looking for you."

"I will do everything I can to get to your side."

"Tsk, how cheesy."

While the two were talking, the background around them changed from people to zombies.
