A group of wild children arrived in the alley, some looking for their father, others for their mother. They were all pitiful children abandoned by educated youth before returning to the cities.
...Chapter 99 Police Dog Assessment 3 Now, the time has come to see who prevails…
These days, most telegrams directly display the text, unless it's a telegram from a classified organization, in which case it would be enclosed in an envelope.
So Shen Qinghuai saw the original text of the telegram directly: My dear Xiaoman, the money has been received. Your parents are going to Beijing to see your leg soon. If you are too busy with work, you don't need to pick them up at the station.
The note was signed by Qiu Xiaoman's adoptive mother, Qiu Yinghe, and dated three days prior. The address listed was a small border town.
If Qiu Yinghe and her husband had immediately taken a bus to the provincial capital after sending the telegram, and then taken a train from the provincial capital, it would have taken four to five days.
If we calculate it this way, as long as they don't get delayed on the road, they should arrive in the next two days.
Shen Qinghuai suddenly felt a little sad. He had finally managed to put aside his own family and send Liang Yuting to jail. He had finally had a chance to ease the tension between him and Xiaoman. But unexpectedly, it had only been a few days before Xiaoman's adoptive parents were coming over.
When that time comes, how will he, the biological father who abandoned Xiaoman, compare to the adoptive parents who raised Xiaoman for more than ten years?
Don't even think about it, you absolutely can't compare.
This was the first time in Shen Qinghuai's life that he had felt jealous in a relationship outside of romantic love.
The strong, pungent smell made him feel uncomfortable all over, as if something was stuck in his throat.
He knew his daughter too well. She was sentimental and very filial. She sent money to her adoptive parents soon after she started working. She was a grateful and good girl. Whenever she saw a telegram, she would go to pick them up from the station no matter how busy she was, and she would also bring her adoptive parents to live in the courtyard house.
At that point, his own father, who prioritizes profit above all else, will have to step aside.
He was so frustrated and upset that he wanted to snatch the telegram and tear it up.
Fortunately, Xiaoman wasn't home, and he didn't have Xiaoman's seal, so he couldn't sign for the telegram on Xiaoman's behalf.
Therefore, he could pretend not to know and let the news of Qiu Yinghe and her husband coming to Beijing be concealed.
Even if they get off the train, no one will pick them up at the station. It's better to leave them out in the cold.
But is that right?
This isn't right!
If it weren't for Qiu Yinghe and her husband, would Xiaoman have grown up to be this big?
Why should he make their adoptive parents stand in the cold wind at the train station just because he's jealous?
If Xiaoman finds out in the future that he saw this telegram but didn't tell her, she will definitely hate him even more.
He could only sigh and say, "Come back this afternoon, I'll go to her workplace to get the seal."
After the postman left, Shen Qinghuai called Qiu Xiaoman, but unfortunately Qiu Xiaoman was testing the dogs and didn't have her mobile phone with her.
He could only call Shen Tenglong and urge him, "Go to the base quickly and find your sister. Ask her for the seal. Tell her that her telegram has arrived from Yunnan."
Shen Tenglong is overseeing the renovations. His uncle bought so many shops, they all need to be properly cleaned up before they can open for business.
The renovation industry is always easy for people to exploit, so these past two days, apart from picking up and dropping off his younger sister at get off work, he has spent the rest of his time supervising the site.
Upon receiving the call, he quickly called a trusted classmate to help keep an eye on things, while he rushed to the base in a great hurry.
*
Qiu Xiaoman got up very early, just like those students who take exams seriously, she also reviewed the knowledge points before the exam.
So she got up early to go through the assessment items with her four dogs again.
Not wanting to be left behind, Fang Jiadong naturally came as well.
Lu Zhiqiang and the others were more easygoing. If the dogs could pass, great; if not, so be it. Anyway, they hadn't slacked off in their training, so they had a clear conscience.
So when they arrived at 8 a.m., the time they were supposed to be on their way to work, they saw Qiu Xiaoman and Fang Jiadong each occupying half of the testing area, competing with each other.
Lu Zhiqiang joked with Dou Lei with a smile, "Looks like we've secured the last two spots today."
Dou Lei shrugged nonchalantly: "So what? Dogs have different aptitudes, and trainers have different levels of skill. But whatever, it's not shameful."
Haha, Lu Zhiqiang really liked his relaxed attitude. He hooked his arm around his neck and whispered, "If those two start fighting later, are you going to try to calm Fang Jiadong down? I'll do it, Xiao Qiu."
"No problem." Dou Lei was easy to talk to. Besides, Captain Meng had told them last night that they must be generous and not be like Fang Jiadong, who couldn't stand seeing their new colleagues doing well.
So he and Lu Zhiqiang both had a pretty normal attitude.
The two, each leading their dog, headed to the testing site to meet up.
Today's assessment was overseen by Deputy Team Leader Qu Hao, but he had been called away by the heating workers to sign off on something and hadn't returned yet. The dogs warmed up by running and jumping around to ward off the early morning chill.
The two men were all smiles as they gave orders, a stark contrast to Fang Jiadong's serious expression.
After the warm-up, Lu Zhiqiang couldn't help but ask curiously, "Why hasn't Deputy Captain Qu arrived yet? Has the heating boiler failed the inspection?"
"Who knows? I hope I pass. It'll be great to have heating at work now." Dou Lei was quite content. He really didn't understand why Fang Jiadong had to compete with Xiao Qiu.
There is already a large shortage of police dogs, so even if Xiao Qiu's efficiency is amazing, it is still a good thing for the national public security system.
All the colleagues at the base hoped that Xiao Qiu would become more and more capable, so that everyone else would have an easier time. It's like a migrating flock of geese; having a lead goose flying ahead can save a lot of energy for the geese behind.
Fang Jiadong's thought process was different from everyone else's; he insisted on competing with Xiao Qiu to be the leader.
It's probably because this guy has been used to being praised by people around him since he was a child, and now that Xiao Qiu has suddenly stolen his thunder, he can't accept this difference.
Tsk, they're really spoiled.
The two stood at the starting point and chatted for a while before Qu Hao came over.
Judging from his beaming face, you could tell that things had been resolved smoothly.
Dou Lei called out, "Deputy Captain Qu, how's it going? Is the heating on?"
"It's working! It's so good to be rich! I'm even thinking of having President Shen as my godfather, hahaha." Qu Hao liked to joke around and had a good attitude.
Lu Zhiqiang echoed Dou Lei, "Then you're really not being fair. You should first become sworn brothers with the brothers, so they can benefit from your status as their godson."
"Haha, that makes sense!" Qu Hao walked over with a smile, glanced at the eight dogs still jumping over the obstacles, and quickly whistled, "Fang Jiadong, Qiu Xiaoman, back in the team!"
The two gave the order in unison for the dogs to end their training and return to the starting point of the test.
Qu Hao followed the procedure, first checking the list, and then starting to test each item one by one in a queue.
The order of the queue was based on the time when the trainers joined the company. Since Qu Hao was also in charge of several dogs, he was first, followed by Lu Zhiqiang, Fang Jiadong, Dou Lei, and finally Qiu Xiaoman.
The dogs are also ordered, usually based on the time they entered the base, with the earliest ones starting first and the others following later.
The assessment of police dogs involves numerous and complex items, and generally adopts a model of independent scoring by three to five handlers plus comprehensive evaluation.
The basic training includes: heeling (leashed/free-riding); sit, lie down, stand, and stay still (testing the police dog's response speed and stability to basic commands); barking (to deter criminals) and quiet (to avoid alerting the suspect during search or tracking); refusal to eat training (to prevent strangers from feeding the dog and causing unnecessary trouble); obstacle crossing (such as high jump, long jump, crossing tunnels or other obstacles, crawling, etc., testing the police dog's physical fitness, agility, and ability to operate in special terrains).
These subjects are graded on an equal scale and account for 30% of the total score.
The specific assessment subjects vary depending on the focus of the police dog evaluation.
Tracking dogs: Primarily tested on scent tracking and long-term tracking. The former relies more on talent, while the latter focuses on endurance and can be trained.
Bomb detection/drug detection dogs: Different environments will be set up for the police dogs being tested, such as vehicles, luggage, buildings, etc. The police dogs being tested need to eliminate interference from other scents and accurately locate the traces of the target scent.
Riot control/attack dogs: The police dogs being tested need to execute the attack and stop commands accurately and promptly, especially the stop command, because many dogs are easily triggered by their instincts when attacking a living creature, commonly known as "going crazy"; in addition, the police dogs being tested must try to control the intensity of the bite to avoid directly injuring the attacked object and sending it to its death.
Search and rescue dogs: These police dogs need to be able to search in extremely harsh environments, have an extremely sensitive ability to detect and distinguish scents, and have extremely abundant physical strength and endurance. In terms of scent identification, the scent of a live animal has the highest priority, because it is not a big deal to find a dead animal later, but every second counts for a living animal.
These projects use a system where the main assessor scores the work, two assistant assessors record the details, and the final score is determined by the main assessor after considering the opinions of all three assessors.
This stage accounts for 50% of the total score and is a key component.
It is important to emphasize that the scoring for these types of projects generally uses a deduction system. For example, a delay in responding to instructions will result in a deduction of five points, and missing a search target will result in a deduction of twenty points.
Each item starts with a score of 100, and a total score of 80 or above is required to pass. No single item can be scored below 60.
In other words, if there are two items, one 60 and one 100, it will pass; if there are three items, one 50, one 90 and one 100, it will not pass.
The remaining 20% consists of environmental adaptability (10%) and physical fitness test (10%).
Environmental adaptability refers to emotional stability in noisy or unfamiliar environments, without experiencing stress or mania.
The test is relatively simple and still uses the equal scoring system.
The physical fitness test is easy to understand; endurance and explosive power each account for half, and the system is still used for equal distribution.
It should be noted that for all items using the equal scoring system, the highest and lowest scores will be removed. For items with a lowest score below 60, all the trainers who scored the dog will vote to determine whether the item needs to be retested.
The assessment results are divided into four levels.
Those who score 90 or above in the overall evaluation can be directly put into actual combat and become formal, officially registered police dogs. They can also participate in national selection competitions, and the winners can go to the international stage to participate in higher-level competitions.
Those with an overall score of 80 to 89 need a small amount of intensive training, usually for about a month. Of course, when there are not enough police dogs, they can also be used as substitutes.
Dogs scoring between 60 and 79 points are considered qualified, but their participation in training programs is restricted. They can only be used in very low-risk situations. At other times, they need to undergo high-intensity training and be subject to subsequent assessments. Dogs that cannot reach 80 points or above after three months will still be eliminated.
Those who score less than 60 points will be eliminated.
Of course, this elimination doesn't mean there's no chance at all. Three months later, the dog can participate in a second test. If it's eliminated again, it can participate once more after a six-month interval.
If you fail all three times, you will be permanently blacklisted and never tested again.
Of course, this does not exclude some special cases, such as if the dog has made significant contributions in certain cases, which could earn it an extra chance.
Now, it's time to see who prevails.
Fang Jiadong was eager to teach Qiu Xiaoman's dogs a lesson. Since the lowest score would be removed from the equal-scoring projects anyway, he figured he could just cause Qiu Xiaoman some trouble.

Author's Note: The content and methods of police dog assessment have undergone several adjustments and improvements. This article uses a more modern approach and excludes the influence of some uncontrollable factors (such as deliberately giving low scores). The actual assessment methods are not exactly the same (but the differences are not significant; the author has done his research, and the overall approach is quite scientific, so please rest assured).
