Chapter 1457 The Flood Recedes

Watching the ape elder slowly leave the cave, Lu Yuan and the others could only express their apologies.

Because they themselves are unable to handle these matters, firstly, they lack sufficient equipment, and secondly, they cannot even perform pharmacological analysis of these viruses. They do not have a complete virus analysis laboratory, so they are unable to help them at all.

Furthermore, Lu Yuan and his group are already struggling to survive themselves, let alone help these apes, especially since these apes intend to trap them here.

Having survived for so long in the apocalypse, Lu Yuan has now become a thorough businessman.

He separates emotions from interests; if it's just about emotions, he would never care about anything related to interests.

When discussing interests, he would never let any emotion get in the way.

He has now truly grown up and no longer has the indecisiveness and saintly heart he once had; all that remains is a feeling of sympathy.

I watched as the apes left. The rain outside was still pouring down.

After Lu Yuan turned to greet the people inside the cave, they began the disinfection work.

Disinfection and sterilization must be done, otherwise they are very likely to be infected by the viruses that have been released from the floating corpses.

Then Lu Yuan came to the outside of the cave and looked at the river, which was full of ape-like corpses, and felt a sense of emotion.

"Nature's destructive power over life is too great. A simple rainstorm has caused so many apes to die. Sigh, it seems the work will have to continue. When will this damn rain stop!"

After grumbling, Lu Yuan decided to turn back and lead his men to clear the bodies out first.

Otherwise, if the floating corpses accumulate for too long, the air will become filled with various pathogens, which will pose a great threat to their lives.

Lu Yuan didn't want his family members to contract viruses without their knowledge in the future; that would be far too dangerous.

Without boats, they would have to find wood elsewhere, and Lu Yuan didn't plan to collect any more wood in this stormy weather.

But they had no choice; they had to do it, because there were just too many floating corpses, since their area was a mountain. Where the river couldn't flow, the debris would pile up.

The corpses of these apes, along with the floating logs and various animal carcasses, piled up here, forming a thick layer that gradually decomposed and rotted in the air.

The air was filled with the smell of floating corpses, making people feel nauseous.

Lu Yuan led a group of people to find some planks, made them into a small boat, and rowed to a grove of trees ahead.

They broke off some tree trunks, tied them together with rope, and made a simple raft. Then they found a rope at the back of the raft, and tied the corpses to the back of the rope.

Thunder rumbled, and to prevent themselves from being struck by lightning, Lu Yuan and the others put on an extra layer of thick insulating clothing over their protective suits.

The heavy clothing made their movements very difficult, but they had no choice; they had to do it to save their lives.

After paddling for half an hour, everyone was exhausted.

They've only been working for a short time and they're already this exhausted. I feel like if this continues, their physical strength will be completely depleted.

Wearing protective suits meant we couldn't eat or replenish our energy, and the stuffy, hot environment inside made everyone feel like they were about to collapse.

Therefore, Lu Yuan could only come up with one solution: to make the trip first, no matter what.

They tied a rope in the middle and then gradually cleared away the bodies from the outer area, letting them flow out through the river.

And so, after a tremendous amount of effort, they finally managed to make the first rope.

The rope was very long, about several kilometers long. The raft dragged the bodies along the rope to the outlet in front, piled the bodies up there, and instantly the bodies flowed away little by little with the direction of the river.

When they saw the corpses being used, Lu Yuan and the others cheered inwardly, but they still had many more corpses to deal with.

After a long period of hard work, they were finally able to rest. Everyone high-fived and cheered. Then, when they arrived at the cave, Lu Yuan suddenly heard a crying sound.

He wiped the fog off his goggles from his protective suit and then discovered that there was a hairy ape-like child inside the cave.

This ape-like child looks like it was just born; its body is still covered in mucus, and its eyes are not yet open.

He lay on the ground crying loudly, and Xiao Shan and the other women were busy tending to him.

Lu Yuan glanced at it and immediately noticed the ape-like female corpse lying next to him.

"What the hell?! You even got an ape-like baby?! How are we going to feed him?!"

Upon seeing this, Lu Yuan frowned and muttered something under his breath.

After listening, Xiao Shan showed a sincere expression on her face.

"This woman is so pitiful. Do you remember her? She's the ape-like woman who took the bananas last time. We just found her body here. Her stomach was swollen, and there was a child inside."
