Earth stopped turning and doomsday arrived.
Disasters came one after another, and humanity, in order to survive, finally exposed the darkness hidden within their hearts.
Deception and b...
The remaining few people kept looking back as they walked towards the business district, expressing great concern about the uncertain future.
The group arrived at the entrance of the industrial zone and underwent another inspection.
Everyone registered their personal information in a system at the entrance.
After registering, Lu Yuan led everyone into the industrial zone. Before they even reached the building area, they smelled a pungent chemical odor.
"The environment here is indeed worse than I imagined. Living here for a long time will definitely damage my health."
Lu Yuan felt a growing unease. He looked around and saw that there wasn't a single patch of green in the entire industrial zone; the color scheme was almost entirely black, white, and gray. It was as if he had stepped into a scene from an old-fashioned television set.
Suddenly, several cars sped by, kicking up clouds of dust as they passed in front of the crowd.
A group of people squatting outside several dilapidated houses in the distance showed a hint of excitement when they saw the cars. They immediately put down the moldy food they were holding and quickly chased after the cars.
The car stopped in a square, and several people got out. One of them was holding a megaphone and stood on the hood of the car, shouting loudly.
"The foundry needs ten porters, two mold makers, twenty smelters, and two cleaning staff. Anyone with work experience, come and sign up with me."
As soon as he said this, the crowd surged forward to him, holding up their identification plaques high in their hands.
“I used to work in a foundry, boss, please choose me.”
"Boss, I'm strong, I can handle the job of a mover."
"Don't push, everyone. I used to work in a mold factory, and I know the mold makers well."
"..."
The crowd was in complete chaos, each person like a hungry wolf, their eyes gleaming red as they fought fiercely.
Upon seeing this scene, the group of people who had just come with Lu Yuan rushed in as well, waving their identification tags and shouting that they wanted to be accepted.
Lu Yuan roughly counted that there were about two or three hundred people on site, while the other party only needed about thirty people. Based on this comparison, it would take about one person out of ten to be selected.
"Is the work pressure really that great? It reminds me of the recruitment scenes in the coastal cities of China decades ago when they opened up to the outside world." Grandpa Lu Yuan stood at a distance, stroking his beard, and was slightly surprised.
"Yes, I didn't expect the competition to be so fierce. Should we give it a try too?" Mr. Lu stood there and looked at the intense scene in the distance, and suddenly became a little anxious.
Now everyone's attention was focused on Lu Yuan.
Upon seeing this scene, Lu Yuan immediately shook his head.
"Don't rush, let's find out about the situation here first. You definitely won't earn much money doing such a lowly job."
“That’s right. We just arrived and we still have some food left. It should last us two days. Let’s get familiar with the environment first and find a place to stay.”
Zhou Tong offered a suggestion, which immediately won everyone's approval.
Soon, those cars carried dozens of people back, while Lu Yuan and his group began to observe the surrounding area.
The square was completely empty, and the only fountain pool was not spraying any water. Only a few dried-up artificial hills stood in place. The dilapidated scene immediately reminded Lu Yuan of the scenes he had seen when he was a child at some abandoned mine construction sites.
The group walked along the only main road in the park, with trucks speeding past every now and then.
The ground was not cleaned at all, and the entire road was covered with gravel and dust.
Han Wen frowned and shone a detector gun at the ground.
"It seems like this place is full of radioactive dust, and the gamma ray levels are dozens of times higher than normal. Staying here for a long time will definitely have an impact on the human body."
Upon hearing this, Lu Yuan and the others felt a chill in their hearts. They hadn't expected that there would be radioactive dust in this place.
"Look what that is!"
Xiwen, with his sharp eyes, pointed to a giant domed building in the distance.
Lu Yuan looked in the direction the other person was pointing and saw four or five huge chimneys near the white domed building, constantly spewing thick black smoke into the sky, which began to spread outwards.
On the road, they were stepping on black particles, and the radiation levels that Han Wen had just detected were clearly coming from these black particles.
"Could this be radioactive dust?"
Han Wen squatted down, touched the ground with his hand, and gently rubbed it.
"If I'm not mistaken, this should be radioactive fallout. I can't believe that this nuclear power plant doesn't even have such basic protection, directly releasing this radioactive layer into the atmosphere. Isn't anyone going to do anything about it?"
Lu Yuan, who had originally held great hopes for the industrial zone, suddenly felt a chill in his heart.
"It seems the environment here is much worse than we imagined. Let's just try to get through this year first. We can't go back right now."
Everyone could only sigh, but right now they had to find a place to stay. Along the way, all the factory areas were bustling with activity.
