Chapter 780 The City Beneath the Sand

Fang Yuan couldn't help but nod: "There's a stream over there, why don't we go directly across it? Maybe we can find some of the cities along the river we saw earlier by following the stream!"

“That’s right. The old city was definitely a good place to settle down. Once we find a city, we can quickly set up camp and develop our own city!”

After tidying themselves up, the three prepared to leave.

Fang Yuan took the longest time because she was carrying too much stuff. Lu Yuan couldn't help but step forward to help her, but was refused.

"I'll do it! I don't want to be the one who holds us back!"

Lu Yuan glanced at the other person's serious expression and could only shrug helplessly.

"Alright, since that's your decision, let's pack up quickly, we need to get going!"

Fang Yuan nodded, then tightened her backpack, slung it over her shoulder, and followed Lu Yuan back to the other side of the log bridge.

Lu Yuan first checked the area to make sure there were no monsters, then retrieved the car from the dimensional space, and the three of them drove along the riverbank.

Just a few minutes after they left, several figures slowly emerged from the cracks in the first pebble beach on the opposite side of the rift valley.

One of the young men was holding a piece of plastic wrapping paper and pointed in their direction.

"I just smelled a stranger's scent. It really was them. Should we report this to the leader?"

Another slightly taller man next to him took the plastic wrapper, smelled it, and looked very satisfied.

"It tastes like chewing gum. We haven't had this in so long! I never expected these people to still have chewing gum!"

Then he got up, took a half-broken pair of binoculars, and looked into the distance. After confirming that Lu Yuan and the others had driven far away, he pointed in the distance.

"Let's go see what these people left behind. That woman took a lot of things; there must be something she forgot!"

So the group rushed to the gravel beach where Lu Yuan and the others had just been, shone their flashlights around, and sure enough, they found a portable camera that Fang Yuan had forgotten to bring in her panic.

After fiddling with the camera for a while, the tall young man finally managed to play the footage.

The footage consisted of short clips, mostly showing scenery and nearby woods along the way, suggesting it held little significance for them.

After checking the camera, the tall young man was silent for a moment before immediately saying to the group, "To prevent the meat from spoiling, we need to leave here as soon as possible. By the way, you two follow them and see where they go. Remember to mark the way and make sure they don't find us!"

The two short youths beside him immediately nodded, then quickly crossed the log bridge and ran off in the direction Lu Yuan and the others had gone.

Meanwhile, the other group, carrying the monster they had just killed, sped off in the distance.

Lu Yuan and his companions had no idea what was happening here, nor did they know that a candy wrapper they had carelessly left behind would attract the attention of these people.

The car kept driving forward, and after about half an hour, it finally spotted a vast, empty ruin in the distance.

This place is very large, stretching as far as the eye can see, and the river becomes very wide here. Lu Yuan roughly calculated the width of the river, and the widest part is about fifty meters, while the narrowest part is nearly twenty meters.

Upon seeing this place, Lu Yuan immediately smiled: "Great! It seems this is an abandoned city. Let's see if we can find any valuable clues nearby!"

Fang Yuan immediately nodded and followed Zhou Tong with the camera in hand.

Zhou Tong carried a searchlight, shining it as he walked. There was a thick layer of sand everywhere, and in the distance were many towering sand dunes. When you stepped on them, the sand would keep sliding down.

Lu Yuan found a similar situation to Zhou Tong's side. When he arrived at a sand dune, he was preparing to climb it.

Suddenly, he felt his footing loosen, and Lu Yuan quickly jumped back. Then, the sand dune he had just stepped on began to collapse.

The rustling sound attracted Zhou Tong and Fang Yuan. The three of them stood at a distance from the sand dune, watching the sand sink deeper and deeper, and a look of surprise appeared on their faces.

"Could it be that there are not only rivers here, but also underground rivers?"

Zhou Tong didn't reply, but instead shone his searchlight on the collapsed area.

The inside was pitch black, but it suddenly became bright under the light. Suddenly, when the sand above collapsed, a beam of light was reflected back.

After reading it, Zhou Tong was stunned for a moment, then he pointed to the spot of light and said, "Did you see that? I think I saw a reflection just now. I suspect there should be a piece of glass or a mirror there!"

Lu Yuan had just seen the reflective spot, so the three of them waited silently until the sand collapsed completely.

After a good ten minutes, the sand finally collapsed completely, and a dilapidated building appeared in the distance. However, the building was only half-built, with some walls still standing in mid-air.
