Chapter 176 The Cave

Upon hearing Lao Wu's heartless and vicious words again, Yue Jiuzai felt nothing this time, since he already knew what kind of people they were.

Jiang Yan, however, wore a sorrowful expression. He was thinking that he probably wouldn't live much longer. Putting aside whether they would release him, the Gu worms in his body could kill him.

Because the crocodile-boar monster had disappeared, after resting, everyone set off again with Jiang Yan and the remaining Yue Jiuzai. However, when they set off, Yue Jiuzai pretended to try to escape, but he failed.

Old Hei personally escorted Yue Jiuzai on his journey. He didn't seem to be in a good mood, and his face was always pale. So when he was escorting Yue Jiuzai, Yue Jiuzai became much more 'well-behaved'.

They didn't travel for long this time and soon arrived at their destination, but the place there was quite unexpected for Yue Jiuzai.

Because this place doesn't look like the place Yue Jiu and the others imagined at all; it looks more like a wild beast's cave.

Before them lay a wasteland, sparsely wooded and desolate. In this wasteland lay a large cave, and outside the cave entrance lay a large pile of bones.

The skeletons were of many different types, including both animal and human remains, which was quite gruesome to look at.

When Yue Jiuzai saw the cave, he was a little puzzled. Weren't they 'earth rats'? Why would they come here? This place clearly looks like the cave of a large animal, and it could very well be the home of that crocodile-boar monster.

Seeing Yue Jiu's confusion, Lao Hei sneered and said, "Hmph~ Scared now? If you don't behave, I'll throw you to the wild beasts to eat!"

Upon hearing this, Yue Jiuzai played along, feigning fear and trembling as she stood there. But in her heart, she thought: Eat me? I'd rather eat a wild beast!

"Let's go, while there's nothing inside yet."

Old Wu and Uncle Zhao inspected the surroundings and then led the team into the cave. The cave looked like a place where wild animals lived, but after entering, they found it to be very clean and without any strange smells, which made Yue Jiuzai feel very strange.

As Yue Jiuzai walked with the group, he looked around at the environment. He saw that there were only a few skeletons in the cave, but judging from the environment inside and outside, there must have been some wild beasts living here before.

Old Hei and his group seemed to have been here several times before, so they knew the way inside very well, which made Yue Jiuzai really want to ask them for information.

The cave wasn't very deep. After walking for a few minutes, they reached the bottom. When Yue Jiuzai saw this place, he suddenly thought of the cave they had entered before. He wondered if this cave, like the previous one, also had a hidden exit.

Sure enough, just as Yue Jiuzai finished thinking, he saw Uncle Zhao pat the bottom of the mountain wall a few times, and then the mountain wall seemed to have activated some kind of mechanism, and a stone door rose up from the bottom!

"Holy crap! There's even a trap!"

Yue Jiuzai was extremely surprised, because she never expected that such a cave would contain a mechanism.

When Old Wu heard Yue Jiuzai's words, he scoffed: "Heh~ This is just a mechanism made by our own people, not by them."

Old Wu's words were somewhat ambiguous, leaving Yue Jiuzai a little confused. She asked, puzzled, "You made the mechanism yourselves? Why did you make a mechanism?"

Old Wu knew that Yue Jiuzai couldn't understand, so he stopped talking and simply turned around and led the team into the mechanical stone gate.

Uncle Zhao sighed and said, "Alas, this tomb is said to be a thousand years old, and all of us in this line of work know of its existence and are eager to go in and see the artifacts inside, but no one has ever been able to open the tomb door and go in."

"But what does this thousand-year-old tomb have to do with the mechanisms you created yourself?"

I still don't quite understand the "Monthly Calamity".

By this time, they had all entered the tomb passage. The passage was narrow and dark, and it looked quite old, as if it had been dug by hand.

Once inside the tomb passage, Uncle Zhao continued, "Since you're all nearing the end of your lives, I'll tell you everything. Legend has it that this tomb is the cenotaph of a highly accomplished Taoist master, containing treasures that can grant immortality. Many people know the location of this tomb, but no one has ever been able to open the inner chamber door. So, in order to both figure out a way to open the door and prevent people from finding the place, our ancestors in this field created a mechanism door on the outside to hide it."

Upon hearing this, Yue Jiuzai understood what had happened. They had discovered the tomb, but they couldn't open it. However, they didn't want to give up, so they set up some traps to protect it, waiting for the day when their colleagues or descendants could open it.

"So, you brought us here today to open this tomb? Does that mean you've found a way to open it?"

As Yue Jiuzai walked, he asked curiously, "I have to say, you tomb raiders are really bold. Aren't you afraid there might be ghosts inside?"

The fat man happened to be next to Yue Jiuzai. When he heard Yue Jiuzai's words, he was a little scared and said, "Hey, shut up. Stop jinxing me."
