I'm Investigating妖怪Cases in the Human Realm

As a fake half-demon, Yue Jiuling feels that living in the human realm is actually pretty good. However, this is only true if she can retrieve her original body and separated soul. There's no c...

Chapter Twenty-Five: The Little Tycoon

Yue Jiuling woke up in the afternoon. She had been chasing the giant catfish outside for most of the night and was only just catching up on sleep.

She woke up to find a message from Yue Jiu Nian, and then she called the person in question:

"Hey, Jiu Nian, didn't you say you weren't coming back for the time being? Why are you suddenly saying you're coming back? What, did they find out you were eating six meals a day, and now they're kicking you out?"

Yue Jiu Nian was in City C, having finally crafted a story about herself being a cursed loner who would bring death to whoever she lived with. She was just about to pack her things and head back to find Yue Jiu Ling when she received this phone call and immediately became annoyed. She said irritably:

"Pah! What do you mean, eating six meals a day? Do you think I can eat that much? If you're free, hurry up and pick me up at the station. I'm going back."

After hanging up the phone, Yue Jiu Nian said to the person behind her, "Um, my senior sister told me to hurry back, otherwise something might happen if I'm late, so I have to go now."

Jiang Hu's family now believed Yue Jiu Nian's words, but they were still a little reluctant to part with her. After thinking for a while, Jiang Hu finally suggested, "How about this, Niannian, Dad will buy you a house near the school, and you can live there by yourself instead of with us. That way, it won't hurt us, and you can continue your studies. How about that?"

Yue Jiu Nian felt a headache coming on as soon as she heard this. Why was her cheapskate father so insistent on making her go to school? But thinking about it, it made sense. She was still a minor and had been in school all along. It wouldn't be good for her to suddenly drop out.

Yue Jiu thought for a moment and said, "How about this, I won't go to school, I'll study at home, and take the college entrance exam when it's time. You don't need to buy me a house, I won't live here. Let's make it clear first, whether I pass the exam or not, you don't need to worry about it. I have other things to do, I really don't have time to worry about this."

Jiang Hu knew that Yue Jiu Nian was very reluctant to go to school, so he agreed. He thought that since the child's grades hadn't been too bad before, she should be able to study at home, so he agreed.

Mr. Jiang readily agreed, but his face turned green when he later saw Yue Jiu Nian return with a test paper that scored only 20 points.

Because he was worried that Yue Jiu Nian was not doing well outside, Jiang's father gave her a sum of money and promised to call her whenever she needed to prepare for an exam, whether it was a big exam or a small one, so that Yue Jiu Nian would come back. With a feeling of hopelessness, Yue Jiu Nian went to the station with a pile of books and study materials.

Jiang Yi drove Yue Jiu Nian to the station. He was quite in awe of this suddenly appearing younger sister. In the car, he told her about how they helped scare the female ghost Zhang Li and forced Gao Yang to turn himself in.

Yue Jiu Nian nodded while looking down at her phone and said, "Okay, you guys handle this. I won't interfere."

Jiang Yi smiled and said, "I've heard that people in your line of work tend to like doing good deeds and acting on behalf of Heaven, right? That's a bit strange of you. You actually said you don't care about it."

Yue Jiu was playing a match-3 game. With a flick of her finger, she clicked on a frog's head and eliminated all the little animals. Only then did she have a chance to look up at Jiang Yi. She shook her head and said:

“I’m different. Didn’t I say before that I’m not a Taoist priest? Acting on behalf of Heaven isn’t my thing. I don’t usually get involved in ordinary matters.”

"Why?"

"There aren't so many whys, I just don't want to meddle in other people's business."

After Yue Jiu finished speaking, she continued playing Candy Crush, leaving Jiang Yi looking completely puzzled.

Although Jiang Yi still didn't understand why Yue Jiu Nian wasn't like a typical master, he didn't ask any further questions after hearing her emphasize that she wasn't a Taoist priest. He then diligently drove Yue Jiu Nian to the station.

In fact, Jiang Yi could have taken Yue Jiu Nian directly to J City, since the two cities weren't far apart. However, Yue Jiu Nian wouldn't let him take her, saying that relatives shouldn't be too close, otherwise they would be cursed by the Lone Star. So Jiang Yi didn't take her to J City.

When they arrived at the station, Jiang Yi gave Yue Jiu Nian some money, saying, "Come back and visit us when you have time. It shouldn't be a problem to come back occasionally."

Holding a bank card, Yue Jiu Nian felt a surge of goodwill towards Jiang Yi. She nodded and said, "Okay, I understand. By the way, how much money is in this card?"

"There's 500,000 in this card. If you need more money, just tell your brother."

When Yue Jiu Nian heard that there was actually 500,000 in the card, the whole cat was so happy that she almost jumped up. She nodded excitedly and said, "Okay, I understand. I will come back to see you when I have time. Don't worry."

Jiang Yi waited until Yue Jiunian bought her ticket and boarded the train before driving away. Yue Jiunian immediately sent a message to Yue Jiuling:

"I'm on the train, get ready to pick me up at the station!"

Yue Jiuling was changing clothes. The weather had gotten quite warmer recently, so she was wearing a thin short-sleeved shirt and picking out pants and shoes to match. After receiving the message, she casually replied with a voice message, "What's the rush? Just wait. I haven't left the house yet."

Seeing that Yue Jiuling didn't care about her at all, Yue Jiunian continued to send messages:

"Honey, I suggest you come pick me up on time, because I'm rich now. My dad gave me three million, and my older brother gave me five hundred thousand. Hahahaha~ I'm a tycoon now, so you'd better watch your words."

Yue Jiuling had just picked out her pants and shoes, put them on, and was about to leave with her keys when she saw this message. She was instantly delighted and immediately made a phone call, saying:

"Oh, you're so arrogant! You've become a tycoon after acknowledging a father figure. Not bad! But why are your father and his family suddenly giving you so much money? Did they kick you out? Is this the family division fee?"
