Chapter Twenty-Four: Surrender

Jiang Yi looked at his good friend and knew what he was confused about, but he didn't explain much. He just patted his shoulder and said, "Don't worry, Gao Yang will turn himself in soon. Just wait."

The two sisters, Li Yueyue and Li Jiajia, nodded in agreement. Li Jiajia, watching the red figure disappear into the distance, said, "Officer, just wait for Gao Yang to turn himself in."

The policeman's name was Wen Cheng, the deputy director of a police station in City C. He and Jiang Yi were old friends. When Yue Jiu asked Li Jiajia to help the red-clothed female ghost, Zhang Li, call the police, Jiang Yi recommended his old friend. After receiving the call, Wen Cheng took his colleagues to dig up Zhang Li's body overnight.

After Gao Yang killed Zhang Li, he buried her in a small park. After Zhang Li gave him the address, the police quickly dug up her body. Wen Cheng immediately called the person who reported the crime after digging up the body.

Logically, someone with inside information would usually tell you everything they know immediately. However, these people who reported the incident were strange; they insisted that Wen Cheng make a bizarre phone call and lied, saying the deceased was missing. If Jiang Yi hadn't been his old friend, and if the three of them hadn't assured him that Gao Yang would definitely turn himself in after the call, Wen Cheng would have arrested them.

"Hey Jiang Yi, did you go crazy from working at your dad's company? If Gao Yang really was a murderer, why would he turn himself in? If he wanted to, he would have come immediately. Why would he have dug a hole and buried the body?"

Wen Cheng thought about it more and more and felt that this was not going to work. Although he did not dare to be certain that Gao Yang was the murderer based on one-sided information, if Gao Yang really was the murderer, he would definitely run away after receiving the call from the police. How could he possibly come back to turn himself in? So after thinking it over, Wen Cheng still wanted to take people to arrest Gao Yang.

Jiang Yi had already guessed what his old friend was thinking. He smiled and said, "Buddy, you have to believe me. We've been friends for so many years. When have I ever lied to you?"

Wen Cheng said irritably, "I already trust you all a lot. If it weren't for that trust, I would have arrested and interrogated you the moment the body was dug up."

After saying this, Wencheng sat down and chose to believe his old friends. After all, if it weren't for them reporting the case, Zhang Li's body would still be missing.

Although Wen Cheng believed that Gao Yang would turn himself in, he still wanted to know the answer: "Hey, Jiang Yi, how did your sister-in-law know that Zhang Li's body was in the park?"

Jiang Yi and Li Yueyue are a couple. Wen Cheng already knew that Li Jiajia was Jiang Yi's sister-in-law, so he spoke more casually.

Li Yueyue felt a little embarrassed when Wen Cheng teased her like that, but Li Jiajia didn't seem to mind. She looked down at her phone and said, "Zhang Li told us. If she hadn't told us, how would we have known?"

Wen Cheng was stunned when he heard this: "Isn't Zhang Li dead? How did she tell you? Don't tell me you saw a ghost, hahaha, I won't believe that."

Wen Cheng laughed as he spoke. Who would believe that reason? If someone is dead, does that mean there really is a ghost?

Jiang Yi knew that Wen Cheng would definitely not believe it, but in order to clear the three of them of suspicion, he had no choice but to tell the whole truth.

Meanwhile, back at Gao Yang's hometown, after finishing the phone call, Gao Yang continued tutoring Gao Lin's homework. He wasn't afraid of the police coming to find him at all. Because Zhang Li was murdered at night when no one was around, and her body was buried in the grass in the park, and there were no surveillance cameras or anything like that in the park, there was no witnesses or physical evidence, so he wasn't worried about being arrested at all.

However, although Gao Yang was confident that he would not be caught by the police, he did not know why he always felt uneasy, and this unease continued from day to night.

It was quite late when Zhang Li arrived at Gao Yang's hometown. She and Gao Yang were from the same hometown, and she had been to Gao Yang's house before, so she remembered the way.

It was past 10 p.m. when Gao Yang was still playing on his phone. Usually, he was still awake at this time, usually playing games. But tonight, he wasn't in the mood to play games. Even though he wanted to go to bed early, he couldn't fall asleep. He had a vague feeling of unease, as if something was about to happen.

"Ding-a-ling~"

The phone suddenly rang. Gao Yang, who was lying on the bed in a daze, picked up the phone casually and answered without even looking at the caller ID: "Hello?"

A familiar female voice suddenly came from the other end of the phone: "Ah Yang~ I'm so cold~"

Upon hearing the voice, Gao Yang was immediately terrified, his hair standing on end, because the voice belonged to Zhang Li, whom he had killed!

Gao Yang was so frightened that he immediately hung up the phone. He threw the phone aside in terror, but then picked it up again in fear and opened the call log to check.

When he saw a familiar phone number in his call log, he panicked and threw his phone under the bed.

Gao Yang stared incredulously at the phone on the ground, muttering to himself, "Impossible. I buried her phone with her, and I even removed the SIM card. How could she still be making calls?"

Just as Gao Yang was thinking, his phone rang again. A little scared, Gao Yang looked down at the caller ID. After seeing that the caller ID was an unfamiliar number, Gao Yang hesitated and picked up the phone.

Because it was an unknown number, Gao Yang wasn't sure whether he should answer it. But seeing that the phone would keep ringing if he didn't answer, Gao Yang decided to take a chance and answered it anyway.
