After visiting Inspector Megure, everyone's lives seemed to settle into a routine. During this rare period without any murders, Kouyu and Conan lived a simple life, going to school, coming home, and going to the police station every day.
Although Conan was a little unaccustomed to it, Kōyū was enjoying it. In the past few days, Kōyū had already finished knitting two sweaters and sent them out.
The sweater I gave Sonoko was all blue with light blue floral patterns on it; it looked very simple.
The sweater given to Ai was a longer white one with a round neck and fitted cuffs. It had symmetrical patterns on it and was slightly larger than Ai's size, but not too loose.
To be honest, Guangyou really wants to get a gray, X-shaped backless sweater, but that's just an idea that can only exist in his mind for now. It's like this for now, but who knows what will happen in the future.
Ai happily accepted the sweater. Seemingly having something to do, she didn't linger with Kōyū and went straight into her room, locking it behind her.
As soon as he returned to the office, he heard Ran complaining. When he went over to take a look, he felt a little disgusted. Ran was holding a black envelope with the words "Kei Kogoro Mouri" written on it in calligraphy.
The words themselves aren't the point; the point is that these pure white words are on a pure black envelope, which is very unlucky, as these two colors often appear in funerals.
Of course, not all black and white have bad connotations; it depends on the context. This black envelope with white lettering immediately gives the impression that someone is cursing him, and no one would feel good seeing that.
Uncle Mori stubbed out his cigarette and threw it into the ashtray. He picked up the envelope and looked at it. The entire envelope was blank except for the white writing. Neither the stamp nor the sender's information was written on it.
After opening the envelope, Uncle Mori took out the letter, but he was a little impatient and didn't see the other piece of paper that had fallen out of the envelope.
Looking at the contents, Uncle Mori nodded knowingly: "I admire your wisdom and have specially written to invite you to my residence for dinner and drinks."
As Uncle Mori expected, the letter was indeed an invitation or something similar. "I guess it's because someone wants me to be a part of their party."
"I don't think so." Guangyou held the paper that had just fallen out of his hand. "Is there a check for two million won in the envelope?"
Upon seeing the numbers, Uncle Mori's eyes widened, and his previous sleepy expression vanished instantly, replaced by the appearance of money symbols appearing in his eyes.
Uncle Mori was also puzzled as to why someone would directly send him money. Wasn't the other party worried that he wouldn't go?
Looking back at the letter more closely, Uncle Mori found the phrase "the phantom of the son abandoned by God" on the upper part of the envelope.
The strong coded message left Uncle Mori and Ran somewhat puzzled, but a glint flashed in Conan's eyes, and the smile on his lips revealed his current mood.
Before he knew it, the day written on the invitation arrived. As usual, Uncle Mori, who didn't own a car but could drive, went to the car rental shop.
Although Uncle Mori had a check for two million yen, he still showed his stingy nature and was haggling with the car rental shop employees.
Uncle Mori took out his car rental shop's VIP card, placed it on the counter, and said to the clerk, "Give me a discount because I'm such a regular customer."
The shop assistant was also somewhat helpless. Although Uncle Mori was a regular customer, none of the cars he rented out ever ended up well. The better ones only had broken wheels, while the worse ones had the whole car explode.
Fortunately, all the cars in the store were insured, and Uncle Mori paid the compensation very promptly, but the boss said he couldn't stand it if things continued like this.
This made the shop assistants and the owner wonder if this was the reason why Uncle Mori didn't buy a car.
Uncle Mori's VIP card is a perfect proof of how many times he has been here. There are two ways to get a VIP card in the store: one is to prepay directly, and the other is to accumulate spending.
For Uncle Mori, the latter was of course the better. What left the shop assistant speechless was that Uncle Mori's VIP card was accumulated by taking cheap cars one after another, a number that most people could not achieve.
After several rounds of back-and-forth between Uncle Mori and the shop assistant, the shop assistant was defeated and successfully got Uncle Mori the car keys and a 10% discount.
The shop assistant saw Conan and Kouyu sitting in the car, leaning against the window, and smiled and waved to them kindly.
Kōyū and Conan exchanged a glance, then silently hid away.
The shop assistant's hand froze in mid-air, her smile vanished, and then she let her hand fall limply, sighing, "It's not my fault that I have distinctive features."
After a moment, the shop assistant walked to the driver's side and said to Uncle Mori through the window, "Mr. Mori, remember to be careful and don't break it again!"
Uncle Mori scratched his head awkwardly, responded, and started the car. The shop assistant bowed slightly in the direction Uncle Mori left before returning and letting out a long sigh: "Hopefully this car will have better luck."
The journey was relatively smooth, but the address was a bit remote. After driving for a whole day, the streetlights were already on, the sky was gradually darkening, and we were getting closer to the place of invitation.
The car was moving when it suddenly jolted, and the sound of metal sliding on the ground was very loud, instantly waking up the people who were resting in the car.
The car slowly came to a stop, and only then did they realize that the left rear tire was flat and had burst. Guangyou silently performed a ritual for the car, knowing that it would probably have to say goodbye to the car today.
Uncle Mori opened the trunk and was somewhat surprised to find that there was no spare tire, but luckily there was a gas station not far in front of the car.
Uncle Mori's anger lessened considerably, and he then went to the gas station.
Soon, the car was able to get on the road. The sky was overcast, and raindrops fell from time to time. In order to speed up, Uncle Mori drove the car onto a so-called shortcut.
This shortcut was a forest path, and it was muddy and difficult to walk on after the rain. The bumpy ride made Uncle Mori complain, "What kind of shortcut is this! I even bought a ridiculously expensive map. If that shopkeeper tries to cheat me, I'll definitely not let him get away with it!"
Seemingly having heard Uncle Mori's complaints, the car came to a normal road after passing a dirt slope. Just as the shop assistant had said, although this road was difficult to travel, it was indeed a shortcut. At this moment, everyone could see the place of invitation - the Twilight Mansion.
Leaning against the window, Kōyū's lips curled into a slight smile as the shocking news from the Twilight Mansion flashed through his mind: "Wealth, indeed, is truly exciting."
As the car drove on, Uncle Mori glanced at the Twilight Mansion. The gloomy sky and dark building made the Twilight Mansion seem to be hidden in darkness, with only the lights still on inside revealing its location.
"Wouldn't it be better to rename it Vampire House? Seriously."
