The setting sun hung on the horizon, bathing the entire sky in a golden hue.
By the artificial lake, Guangyou pushed his bike and walked with Xiao Ai towards the bike rental place.
Since Guangyou's slip of the tongue, the two haven't spoken again.
However, it wasn't an argument, nor was it a cold war.
At this moment, Ai walked beside Kousuke with her hands behind her back, having long since put away the somewhat cold expression she had deliberately put on earlier.
To be precise, she had already put it away as she walked forward.
She didn't care about what happened before, nor was there any need to care.
As Kōyū pushed his bicycle, he would occasionally glance at the road ahead, and sometimes turn his head to look at Ai, who was admiring the scenery.
Just like the saying goes, "You are looking at the scenery, while I am looking at you."
The two strolled along the lake, the setting sun casting its golden rays upon them, as if gilding them with a layer of gold dust.
This tranquil atmosphere was something Ai had never experienced before, just as it was something Mitsuyoshi had never experienced before.
Therefore, the two walked slowly, quietly enjoying the atmosphere.
There were still about twenty minutes left before the car was returned, which was plenty of time for the two of them.
And it's okay if you arrive a little late, as long as it's no more than fifteen minutes, you won't have to pay extra.
Even if you walk slowly, the road will eventually come to an end.
After walking for nearly ten minutes, the two arrived at the car rental place.
After returning the car to the staff, Guangyou stood on the road, glanced down at the time, and then looked around.
"Aren't they ready yet?" Kōyū took Ai's hand and walked to the dock, standing on the shore, looking at the cruise ships on the lake.
"It's a bit slow."
They all returned the car, but Xiaolan and the others didn't seem to have had enough fun yet.
Before parting ways, he made an appointment with Xiaolan and the others to meet at the pier after they had finished playing, and then decide whether to have dinner or play a little longer.
However, he did not see Xiaolan and the others at the dock.
“We returned it too early,” Ai said, glancing at the boats on the lake and turning to Kyou. “We moved the return time forward by about ten minutes.”
“That makes sense.” Guangyou nodded, looking at the sign at the dock that read, “Free fish food is included with boat rentals.”
I can roughly guess why Xiaolan and the others haven't finished yet.
If you made him row a boat for an hour, he would probably find it boring and tedious, but feeding the fish is a different story; at least he has something to do.
You can moor the boat in the middle of the lake, then lean on the railing and occasionally scatter some fish food, watching the fish in the lake swarm together and fight for it.
If Ai were there too, I wouldn't be bored at all.
“Let’s go sit there and wait for them,” Kōyū suggested, pointing to a bench on the lakeshore and turning to Ai.
"Okay, let's go." Ai nodded in agreement.
The two then sat down on the bench.
The bench faces the lake, so the two people can enjoy the beautiful scenery while sitting on it.
"I guess Xiaolan and the others will be here soon too," Guangyou muttered to himself, watching the boats heading towards the dock on the lake.
"Want something to eat?" Ai took out the bread she had bought earlier from the bag and handed one of them to Kousuke.
The bread wasn't big; Guangyou estimated he could finish it in two or three bites, and given his appetite, it wouldn't affect his dinner later.
He had been riding his bike for almost half an hour and was actually quite hungry.
Without saying any polite words, Kōyū took the bread from Ai's hand, tore open the wrapper, and took a bite.
"It tastes good."
It has a soft texture, and you can taste the blueberry jam with every bite.
Turning to look at Ai, Kōyū saw her holding bread in both hands, enjoying the beautiful scenery while taking small bites.
She eats very elegantly, as she always has.
Unlike him, who used to eat everything in one bite to save time.
He has now broken free from his old life and is much better off as a result, but sometimes you can still see glimpses of his former self.
Because of this issue, Ai has said a lot to him.
Sometimes when he eats with Ai, if he eats a little too fast, she will always say something to him in a disapproving tone.
"Why are you eating so fast? Nobody's going to take it from you here."
Whenever he heard such words, Guangyou would not refute them, but would smile and nod, and then obediently slow down his eating speed.
Noticing Kousuke's gaze, Ai turned her head to meet his eyes, while taking a small bite of the bread in her hand.
At that moment, Guangyou took another bite of bread.
The bread in his hand changed from a round shape to a half-moon shape, and then to a crescent shape. It was estimated that Guangyou could finish the bread in the next bite.
"Why are you eating so fast? If you choke, I won't help you."
Her words were full of disdain and reproach, but as she said them, Ai had already put the bread in her hand aside.
Then she reached into the bag next to her, took out the water she had bought earlier, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to Guangyou.
"Have a sip, so you don't choke."
His cool voice carried a barely perceptible hint of concern.
"Mm." Kōyū was already used to Ai's way of showing concern. He smiled and took the water, taking a small sip.
After Kōyū finished drinking, Ai took the water back, screwed the cap on, put it back in the bag, and said something to Kōyū.
"This is the only one left. We still need to eat later."
"Um."
After putting the water back in the bag, Ai picked up the bread she hadn't finished eating and took a small bite.
