"The deceased was the owner of this house, Mr. Akashi Takeo."
Without saying anything more to Yamamura Misao, Uncle Mori went into the crime scene and told Yamamura Misao about the case.
Walking to the body, Uncle Mori pointed to the half-eaten curry rice placed next to the bedding and said:
"The first person to discover the body was my daughter, Xiaolan. She found the body when she came to collect Mr. Yan's tableware."
Then, Uncle Mori told Yamamura Misao what he had learned before the police arrived.
"When Xiaolan discovered the body, the lights in this room on the second floor were off."
"An hour and a half before the body was discovered, Xiaolan also went up to the second floor and saw that the room lights were still on."
"So Xiaolan assumed he was still eating curry rice, and that's why she gave up the idea of going into the room."
Then, Uncle Mori explained his findings after examining the corpse.
"After discovering the body, I immediately examined it."
"Based on the body's temperature and the degree of rigor mortis, I initially judge that Mr. Yan Fu has been dead for about thirty minutes."
Finally, Uncle Mori recounted where everyone in the house was and what they were doing when Akashi died.
"There were seven people in this house when Mr. Yan died."
"Six of them had been resting in the first-floor living room for two hours and all had complete alibis."
"The only person who doesn't stay in the living room the whole time is probably me, who leaves the living room halfway through to take a bath in the bathroom."
He didn't know if telling this information to Shancun Cao would be of any use.
After all, the mountain village's professional skills are questionable, and even if he were told, it might not have much effect.
But he's currently just a detective; the murder case is still handled by Yamamura Misao.
Although Uncle Mori knew that Misao Yamamura was not good at his job, he still told Misao this information for the sake of the case.
But he never expected...
After hearing the information from Uncle Mori, Yamamura Misao's expression suddenly changed drastically.
That expression was as if some kind of faith had collapsed.
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Uncle Mori glanced at Yamamura Misao, who seemed a bit off, and asked.
Although he didn't know what Yamamura Misao was thinking, Uncle Mori instinctively felt that it wasn't something bad that Yamamura Misao was thinking.
Yamamura Misao raised his hand, pointing a trembling finger at Uncle Mori, his tone filled with barely concealed disbelief.
"Then, the only one with the time to kill is you, Mr. Mori?"
The group of people, including Kōyū, standing in front of the room door: "..."
Uncle Mori standing next to the corpse: "..."
Even the forensic personnel who were taking pictures of the body and the crime scene stopped taking pictures and turned to look at Yamamura Misao, who had said such a foolish thing.
“...”
They wanted to ask their superiors if they could be transferred to the village police officer's office so that he could be in charge of investigating the murder case.
They really thought they could handle the 90% discount on the water bottles, and they even guaranteed they could do a better job than the village police officer.
These are things one can only think to oneself; it's impossible to say them out loud.
Moreover, the knowledge they learned was all in the field of forensic identification.
There aren't many people to begin with, and if a few more are transferred away, then there will basically be no one left.
Besides, if the village police officer and they were to switch places, the forensic department might be finished.
"Officer Yamamura, listen to me carefully!" Uncle Mori raised his eyebrows, took a breath to calm himself down a bit, but his voice still unconsciously rose.
"This is my first time visiting this house..."
After taking another breath, Uncle Mori suddenly remembered Yamamura Misao's unreliable behavior after arriving at the scene, and his emotions became even stronger.
He felt he was about to lose control.
Then, Uncle Mori simply gave up suppressing his anger and loudly vented his dissatisfaction and helplessness:
"I don't even know if there are any ropes here, how could I possibly do such a thing?!"
"This..." Yamamura Misao realized his mistake, his forehead covered in cold sweat. He raised his hands to shield himself and responded weakly.
"That does seem to be the case..."
"Really!" Uncle Mori turned his head away and shook his head helplessly.
How was the conclusion that "he, Kogoro Mouri, is the murderer" reached?
Before stating this conclusion, did Yamamura Misao even think it through in his mind?
Or is it that he simply has no brains?
Several conditions must be met to identify the murderer:
The time of the crime, the motive, and one or more pieces of evidence that can prove the perpetrator is the killer.
Except for crimes of passion, there is always a motive.
He had just met Akashi Hiroto's family today, and had only exchanged a few words with the deceased Akashi Ichio; the two had not argued.
The two had no business dealings or interests involved.
What was his motive for committing the crime?
Furthermore, the most important factor in identifying the murderer is evidence.
The crime scene hasn't been fully investigated yet, and no evidence has been found. How can we suspect him as the murderer just because he had the opportunity to commit the crime?
This village police officer is really incompetent.
"Although based on the current situation, it is quite clear that it was suicide."
"However, the blood flowing from the corpse's mouth makes me suspect that this case is not as simple as it seems, and something is not right."
Ignoring the "rookie police officer" Yamamura Misao, Uncle Mori shifted his gaze to Akashi Takeo's wide-open mouth.
