As the sun sets, golden sunlight streams down.
The light shone through the clean window into the kitchen, as if draping the two people busy in the kitchen in a thin golden veil.
"Ai, any progress today?" Kōyū asked Ai while preparing the ingredients.
"No." Ai replied calmly, her mood unaffected by the situation.
In this regard, Ai would never say anything like "there has been some progress".
If it's not there, it's not there.
She wouldn't be affected by this situation, and she wouldn't even feel a ripple of emotion about it.
If you get discouraged by a lack of progress or failed experiments, it's best to stop doing it sooner rather than later.
Her answer was exactly what Guangyou had expected.
After all, if progress were so easy, it wouldn't have been developed so far.
Even though he had expected it, he still felt a pang of regret when he heard it with his own ears.
This feeling was fleeting.
When Kwang-yu spoke again, he had regained his composure.
At that moment, he forgot Ai's former identity and subconsciously comforted her:
"It's okay, let's continue later."
"Failure is the mother of success; progress will come sooner or later."
"Have you forgotten what I do?" Ai felt a warmth in her heart, but she didn't show it.
"Oh, that makes sense." Only then did Kōyū remember that Ai had often dealt with these kinds of things before, and it wasn't like she hadn't failed before.
How could I let such a small thing affect my mood?
He smiled somewhat awkwardly and said:
"I forgot just now."
"I can tell." Ai paused in her hand movements after saying that, and then said, "Although there's still no progress, I feel much easier this time."
When she said "relaxed," she meant the things that Guangyou was helping her with.
In the past, she always did experiments alone.
I've gotten used to it, and I don't find doing experiments alone particularly troublesome or tiring.
But now that someone can help her, even if it's just doing small things, it still makes her feel much more relaxed.
This may be due to psychological reasons.
Doing things with people you like can make you feel better.
When you're in a good mood, things naturally feel much easier.
"I also feel much more relaxed," Guangyou said.
The "relaxed" part he referred to was Ai preparing dinner with him.
Neither of them said it explicitly, but they both understood what the other meant.
As if they had agreed beforehand, the two looked up at the same time, exchanged a smile, and then continued preparing dinner.
...
After having dinner, cleaning up the kitchen, and spending a few more hours in Ai's room, Kōyū prepared to leave.
Before he left, Ai saw him to the door and, as usual, told him not to forget to send her a message after he returned to the office.
As usual, Guangyou told her to get some rest.
"Let's go see Sister Mingmei in a few days," Guangyou brought up the matter again.
"Should we tell my sister first?" Ai glanced at Kousuke, guessing what he was thinking. "Or should we not tell her?"
Imagining Akemi suddenly seeing the two of them, Kōyū said with a smile:
"Of course I won't tell her."
"Hmm." Ai also thought of that scene and couldn't help but smile.
After waiting at the door for another five or six minutes, Kōyū finally suppressed the idea of staying overnight and said goodbye to Ai.
"Then I'm leaving." Guangyou said he was leaving, but he didn't move.
If she were to speak up now and try to persuade me to stay, saying something like, "It's already so late, why don't you stay?"
Then Guangyou might actually stay.
However, Ai hadn't thought about that at all.
And we'll see each other tomorrow, it's not like we're going to another city.
She simply responded with a "hmm".
It wasn't a big pity; Kōyū didn't get Ai's offer to stay, so he prepared to leave.
He opened his arms to Ai and said:
"How about giving me a parting gift before I leave?"
"Not very good." Ai raised an eyebrow, standing still without making a move.
Hearing this, Kōyū maintained his outstretched arms posture, smiling as he looked at Ai, softly calling her name, and then said:
"Ai-chan."
"Give me one."
After exchanging a glance with Kousuke for a moment, Ai shook her head, her tone full of helplessness, and said:
"I just can't do anything with you."
As soon as she finished speaking, she opened her arms and took a small step forward.
At that moment, Kōyū smiled and hugged Ai in his arms, burying his head in her hair and inhaling its fragrance.
The evening breeze carried a slight chill.
However, due to the season, the wind didn't feel cold on her skin, especially for Ai.
As Ai hugged Kousuke and felt the warmth of his embrace, the helplessness on her face was quietly replaced by a smile.
Under the lamplight, the shadows of the two people embracing were stretched very long.
The two simply hugged without speaking, yet both felt a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
After enjoying the embrace for a moment, Kōyū knew the time was up. He released Ai, said goodbye again, and smiled as he said:
"This time I'm really going back."
"Yes." Ai's smile faded, and she nodded, saying, "We should have left a long time ago."
Upon hearing this, Kwang-woo, knowing her thoughts, didn't say anything, but instead smiled even more broadly.
He was already used to her way of speaking.
He simply added:
