Financial crisis, big salary cuts, fresh graduates fighting fiercely for a job paying only 1,200 yuan. Fresh graduate Chen Feng couldn't stand the gap and became a loafer at home, smoking and d...
"Eating frozen food every day doesn't taste very good, so I thought I might as well buy a live one and cook it myself. So I drove to the village to ask."
"As soon as I went in, that big goose came over and pecked at me, it even flew up and pecked me, which made me so angry."
"That family said that's just how this goose is; it even pecks at them. How can I, with my short temper, tolerate it?"
"I bought this goose right away. I'll change the chicken and mushroom stew to a regular stew in an iron pot. What's the harm in eating it anyway?" Huang Fei smacked his lips, enjoying the delicious taste.
"Wow, you actually bought geese from someone else! If you stay here for another month, you'll be quite familiar with the area," Li Chunlai laughed.
"Absolutely. I can't find anything else, but right now I know exactly where to buy meat, cooked food, and live chickens, ducks, and geese."
"If you just want to buy live pigs, I can get them for you," Huang Fei said smugly.
"I want to eat donkey meat, where can I buy it?" Chen Feng asked deliberately.
“Yes! There’s a rather remote spot in the city where there’s a market every Wednesday and Sunday. They have all sorts of rare and unusual items. Just tell me what you want.” Huang Fei perked up immediately upon hearing this.
Everyone: "..."
Right now, they really only have one thought in their minds: You're fucking awesome, you actually managed to touch this kind of place.
They even know exactly when the market opens, more so than people in the city.
"Awesome, fucking awesome! I'm really impressed this time. You should be the one in charge of this job. You're way more professional than me." Li Chunlai raised his glass to toast him.
"Are you kidding me? What kind of 'wanderer' are you? You don't even wander around. How can you be called a wanderer if you don't wander around?" Huang Fei downed his drink in one gulp, not ashamed at all, but rather proud of it.
"I was wondering why you always take so long to come back. I didn't think it was that far. Now I finally understand what you've been up to," Chen Feng said, taking a bite of wide rice noodles and nodding.
"No joke, give me another half month, and I'll know the city inside and out." Huang Fei said, taking a bite of rice.
"You're really amazing. Even though I've been in this place for almost ten years, I still don't understand it as well as you. You're a real talent," Chen Jianguo exclaimed.
Everyone ate the stew in an iron pot with great enthusiasm, and only when they were too tired to eat anymore did they put down their chopsticks and have some tea instead.
And so, Chen Feng and his team worked there for more than twenty days in a row, with varying amounts of harvest each day.
"Brother Feng, are we going to have to work overtime today? Does that mean we'll have to pump the whole river dry?" Li Chunlai asked from underwater.
"Almost there. If you want to get home sooner, then speed things up. There are still four hours until sunset," Chen Feng said, looking at the sun.
"Alright, just you wait and see. I won't bring you ashore until I've sucked up everything down there." Li Chunlai promised without stopping his work.
They've sucked this river all the way downstream. How far exactly? Let's just say...
Now they drive to and from get off work, because walking is too tiring.
Huang Fei would always drop them off at their destination before driving into the city.
Chen Feng had already explored the lower reaches of the river and found virtually nothing. Even if there were some small pieces of gold, they would only be worth a thousand or eight hundred yuan, not worth exploring at all.
So Chen Feng drew a boundary on the riverbank, and once he reached that line, he headed straight home, sold the gold, and drove home.
If they work hard today and stay here tonight, they can go back to the city to find Brother Qi tomorrow morning.
As darkness gradually fell, Li Chunlai and Lin Nian quickened their pace, determined to keep breathing even in complete darkness before moving on.
Otherwise, if there's a little left tomorrow, we'll have to do it all over again, wasting a whole day.
"Can you see clearly? If not, come up. It won't make a difference if you finish shopping tomorrow morning and leave in the afternoon," Chen Feng said worriedly.
“It’s alright, Brother Feng. I keep my word. I’ll finish when I say I’m done. Lin Nian, go upstairs and get the flashlight down. I’m having a bit of trouble seeing.” Li Chunlai said.
"Okay." Lin Nian said and floated up. Chen Feng called Huang Fei and asked him to drive over with the flashlight.
"Holy crap, they've already started using flashlights, how much more do we need?" Huang Fei asked as he got out of the car.
"It'll be here soon," Chen Feng replied, handing the flashlight to Lin Nian on the shore.
Huang Fei didn't leave either; he just waited there to take them back together.
Lin Nian reached the bottom of the water and shone a flashlight on Li Chunlai, who continued to suck up the water.
About twenty minutes later, Li Chunlai finally finished sucking up the last bit of water, and the entire riverbed was completely cleaned by them.
"All done, let's go home!" Li Chunlai's voice was filled with barely suppressed joy as he and Lin Nian went ashore.
"Take it off, take it all off, you'll never have to wear it again!" Li Chunlai said wildly as he threw off his wetsuit.
The trunk of the car was open and covered with a plastic sheet. People returning from the shore sat directly on the edge of the trunk to avoid getting the car wet.
Huang Fei pulled the three of them back to the camp with the trunk open.
"Damn, we're back, but the money-sucking ship is still downstream, isn't it?" Chen Feng suddenly remembered and said.
"Damn, I'll go again and bring the money-absorbing ship back." Huang Fei said as he got out of the car after dropping them off.
"Drive there. You can lead the boat, and I'll drive the car back. You'll have to walk the rest of the way." Chen Feng didn't get out of the car; he told him to get in.
"That works too." Huang Fei said, getting back into the car. The two went downstream, Huang Fei led the gold-absorbing boat back, and Chen Feng drove the car back.
"This is our last batch of gold. Quickly check how much it is, then weigh all the previous batches. The most exciting moment is about to begin," Li Chunlai said, rubbing his hands together.
We'll find out today exactly how much money they've made in the past month or so.
This also determines how much money each of them will receive, and whether they will get a Mercedes or a Wuling minivan.
"Let me calculate today's goods first. Today's goods are... two hundred and forty-three thousand four hundred."
After Li Chunlai finished calculating, he looked at everyone.
"I'll go get all the gold, let's calculate how much it's worth," Chen Feng said as he went to the prefab house, preparing to take out his large box.
It's worth mentioning that the first box was already full. Chen Feng originally planned to sell it once he had enough, but in the end he was too lazy to sell it in batches and decided to sell it all at once.
Chen Feng managed to drag three boxes out from under the bed, stacked them together, and carried them out of the room.
Even Chen Feng felt that these goods were quite heavy; he roughly estimated that they must weigh at least several dozen kilograms.
Dozens of kilograms of gold, how much is that worth!
