Financial crisis, big salary cuts, fresh graduates fighting fiercely for a job paying only 1,200 yuan. Fresh graduate Chen Feng couldn't stand the gap and became a loafer at home, smoking and d...
"Okay." Xia Yingying finished eating the sausage and went to the kitchen to wash her hands.
Li Chunlai was at home, spending time with relatives and seeing off those who were leaving.
Some who lived nearby even went home and came back, carrying chickens, ducks, geese, and gift canned goods.
"Chunlai, save this can of food for your dad. I forgot it at home when I came. What a scatterbrain of me!" the relative said, clapping his hands with a laugh.
"No need, you should keep it and eat it," Chunlai said, declining.
"No, no, you keep it. I'm leaving now." The man put the things down and left the house.
"Chunlai, take these two chickens. If you want to eat them, you can kill them. If you don't want to eat them, you can keep them for a few days. They're both big roosters, very good."
An older woman came in from outside, carrying a chicken in each hand.
"I have chickens at home, what are you going to do with them? Are you kidding me? Take them home." Li Chunlai chuckled.
"Oh, don't be so polite. They're all home-raised. Keep them for yourself. I'm leaving now." The aunt threw the chicken into the house, turned around, and left.
Li Chunlai exchanged a few polite words but failed to catch up with his aunt. He looked at the two extra chickens in the house and fell silent.
"Chunlai, I'm leaving now," two relatives said to Li Chunlai after they finished dressing.
"Hey, stay a little longer, I'll see you off." Li Chunlai snapped out of his reverie upon hearing this and walked outside.
And so it went until evening, and Li Chunlai's house had at least ten more cases of drinks, five barrels of liquor, and seven or eight chickens, ducks, and geese.
After seeing all his relatives off, Li Chunlai sat at the door of his house, silently smoking.
"Why are you so quiet? Are you tired or unhappy?" Chen Feng walked over from a distance, sat down next to him, and asked with a smile.
"Brother Feng, do you think there's really such a big difference between people who are rich and those who aren't?"
Li Chunlai looked at his Mercedes-Benz, lit another cigarette, and looked somewhat melancholy.
“It’s normal. Just think positively. I’ve been through what you’re going through before.” Chen Feng patted him on the shoulder.
If we're talking about who understands Li Chunlai's feelings the most right now, it has to be Chen Feng.
Their experiences were essentially the same.
"Hey, this Mercedes, worth over a million, has already been worth it in just one day. Why don't we sell it tomorrow? It's all the same anyway," Li Chunlai suddenly laughed.
“That’s different. If you sell these tomorrow, all the chickens in your yard will have to be taken back.”
After Chen Feng finished speaking, the two of them burst into laughter at the same time.
"This is the first time I've truly experienced the coldness and warmth of human relationships firsthand." Li Chunlai flicked his cigarette butt away, braced himself with his hands behind him, and looked up at the sky.
The next day, Chen Feng woke up in bed, while Xia Yingying had already gone to wash up.
"Are you going to the mine today? Uncle has already gone." Xia Yingying asked, combing her hair.
"Go, let's take a look around and see how my mine is doing." Chen Feng sat up, went into the bathroom, and hugged Xia Yingying from behind.
"Behave yourself, it's already past nine o'clock." Xia Yingying slapped his restless hand.
"We'll make it in time. We can have lunch there and see if the food has changed," Chen Feng said with a smile.
Around 11 a.m., the two drove to the mine, Xia Yingying still wearing full makeup.
As soon as the two got off the car, the miners were delighted to see Chen Feng return. However, when they saw Xia Yingying beside him, they quickly composed themselves and went back to work.
They're all incredibly honest.
"Huh?" Chen Feng was still unaware of what had happened; the atmosphere at the mine wasn't like this before.
Everyone was so relaxed and laughing, why are you all so serious now?
As Chen Feng approached, someone greeted him.
"Brother Feng is back."
"Brother Feng."
"Yes, yes." Chen Feng nodded in response to each one.
The mines now look completely different from before; the pace of development is indeed quite rapid.
Chen Feng casually strolled around and inspected the area. When he walked up to a worker, the worker looked around furtively, and only after confirming that Xia Yingying couldn't hear him did he whisper to Chen Feng.
"Brother Feng, will you be coming back from now on, instead of your wife staying at the construction site?"
"What's the difference?" Chen Feng asked, puzzled.
"Yes, the difference is huge, you..."
Before he could say anything more, he saw Xia Yingying turn around and glance over. He quickly picked up his tools and started working.
"What's the difference? Tell me!" Chen Feng was completely bewildered.
However, no matter how he asked, the man remained silent and continued working with his head down.
Chen Feng turned and glanced at Xia Yingying, his eyes filled with questions.
Xia Yingying, with her hands in her pockets, merely raised an eyebrow haughtily before turning away.
"Xiaofeng, you're here. Have you two eaten yet?" Chen Jianguo asked as he walked over when he saw them arrive.
"No, I'm going to the cafeteria later to see how the food is," Chen Feng replied.
"Okay, let's go now, it's almost lunchtime." Chen Jianguo glanced at the time and told him to go to the cafeteria.
The three of them quickly arrived at the cafeteria, where they were still cooking. The older women were busy chatting loudly.
As a result, an older woman turned around unintentionally and saw Chen Feng and two others come in.
Everyone else was fine, but when the older woman saw Xia Yingying, she shuddered and hurriedly went back to speak nervously in a low voice.
"Quickly, quick, the landlady is here, stop chatting."
"Oh, the proprietress is here! Quickly, hand me the food!"
"Shut up, shut up, stop talking and get to work."
Chen Feng and the other two strolled around the room casually. Xia Yingying was already used to the atmosphere, while Chen Feng and Chen Jianguo were a little surprised, thinking that this was the usual atmosphere for them.
"Boss lady, the dishes are basically ready. Today's dishes are dry-fried green beans, braised carp, stir-fried pork with chili peppers, and garlic-flavored pork belly. The soup is seaweed and egg drop soup."
"Would you like to go to the kitchen and take a look?" An older woman wiped her hands on her chest, ran over, and chuckled as she reported. You could tell she was a little nervous.
"Okay, let's take a look." Xia Yingying nodded.
"Did Lu Dahai buy all these vegetables in the county?" Chen Feng asked casually.
Upon hearing this, the older woman glanced at Chen Feng but did not answer. Instead, she looked at Xia Yingying, waiting for her response.
After Xia Yingying nodded gently, the auntie spoke up: "Yes, they are all delivered by Lu Dahai this morning. They are all very fresh, and the weight is measured every day, so there is no difference."
"Hmm?" Chen Feng turned to look at Xia Yingying, his face showing signs of nervousness.
Why is it that my boss has no dignity at all? I even have to ask the boss's wife for the order of dishes?
"You'll get used to it, don't be so surprised." Xia Yingying chuckled and whispered in Chen Feng's ear before following the older woman into the kitchen.
Seeing this, Chen Jianguo patted Chen Feng on the shoulder and followed him inside, leaving Chen Feng standing there bewildered.
