Chapter 126 Grandpa

On the other side, Chen Wenzhi arrived home. As soon as he opened the door, the child's toy ball rolled to his feet. The child cried out and grabbed his trouser leg. He looked up and was greeted by his uncle's kind smile. He awkwardly picked up the child who was crawling on the ground and pretended to be angry and threatened, "Yangyang, if you are so rude next time, Grandpa will not take you out to play anymore."

The child timidly withdrew his hand, babbling something under his breath.

Chen Wenzhi glanced at it indifferently, then walked into the room under the watchful eyes of his family, who were used to it.

"Don't ask him to take leave for these kinds of dinners in the future," the old man said solemnly. "It will interfere with his studies."

Zhao Yaya nodded, looking at the closed door. She pretended not to hear what the old man said. She brought Chen Wenzhi back not because of any dinner party. Her son wouldn't be able to eat at home even if he came back. She asked him to take a day off just so he could sleep at home for one night. One night he called and said he was having trouble sleeping at school. After all, he was her own son.

"Wenzhi's grades are good enough, unlike our brat who just plays video games all day long," Auntie said with exasperation. "I don't know how to discipline him." She sighed again.

Zhao Yaya smiled awkwardly and politely comforted him, "At least your son is willing to talk and doesn't hide anything. Look at Chen Wenzhi, he keeps everything to himself, and we don't know what to do with him."

Auntie smiled apologetically and said, "Oh, it's nothing, the child has grown up."

The surrounding relatives echoed this sentiment, praising Chen Wenzhi in turn.

The house was littered with sunflower seed shells, orange peels, and candy wrappers. Zhao Yaya couldn't smile at all, but she still had to serve tea and water to the guests, most of whom were relatives. She hadn't always been this good-tempered; now she was compromising for the sake of her family.

Chen Wenzhi was writing questions at his desk. By the time he finished a test, there was almost no sound outside the door.

The door was gently pushed open, and Zhao Yaya asked, "Aren't you going to see Grandpa and the others off?"

She gave him a wink, and Chen Wenzhi understood. He cleared his throat and deliberately said loudly, "Mom, you stay home and pack your things. I'll go see Grandpa off!"

Zhao Yaya had no intention of pretending anymore. She pushed her son out of the room and collapsed onto the bed.

At this moment, Chen Wenzhi had no choice but to swallow his pride and go out to see off his grandfather and other elders.

The old man didn't say a word and walked at the front.

Several uncles and aunts followed behind, treating Chen Wenzhi like a treasure. He really couldn't bring himself to give these relatives a friendly look. It wasn't that they were bad, but he simply disliked their faces. The eerie, insincere smiles on everyone's faces sent chills down his spine.

"Mom! Where's Aunt Yao?" The eldest grandson of the uncle's family tugged at the woman's clothes with a pitiful expression.

Upon hearing this, the air around them seemed to grow colder, and everyone fell silent. The old man's expression was also quite intriguing.

Chen Wenzhi scoffed, but was curious about the older sister's answer. She panicked for a moment, then calmly replied, "From now on, she will no longer be your aunt."

The five-year-old child burst into tears the moment the words were spoken.

Chen Wenzhi cast a disgusted look at the child, who seemed to sense something and burrowed straight into his mother's arms.

After everyone had left, Grandpa got into the car. Uncle exchanged a few more pleasantries before saying, "Alright, it's getting late, Wenzhi, you should go home now."

Chen Wenzhi had been waiting for this sentence, so he gave a fake smile and turned to disappear into the stairwell.

When I got home, the floor was a mess.

He frowned and was about to start cleaning when Zhao Yaya stretched and said, "Don't bother cleaning. Go take a shower and go to bed. I'll clean up tomorrow. You should get some rest. If you really can't, don't go tomorrow."

Chen Wenzhi went to his room to find some clothes and then went into the bathroom.

Zhao Yaya sighed at the trash on the ground, then picked up her phone, took a picture, and sent it to her husband.

There was no reply for a long time; they must have already gone to sleep.

Forget it, Zhao Yaya simply turned a blind eye and pretended not to see it.

"Oh! Beiyan, you've finally arrived! We were all so worried!" The woman was simply dressed.

The portly man standing next to her was her husband.

"We can't raise the money for the medical bills in a short time. That's why I called your father in a moment of desperation," the woman said, her eyes brimming with tears, her slightly reddened eyes making her look pitiful.

Her husband, however, showed no mercy, snapping, "All you do is cry! Who are you crying to?"

The woman held back her sobs and looked at Meng Beiyan with teary eyes.

He maintained his smile and said, "I've already paid for your ICU stay, so you don't need to worry about the treatment costs." After saying that, he took out a bank card from his pocket. "There's 500,000 yuan in this card, which is what I owe you. My father said that once this money is paid back, our two families will have no more grudges."

"I understand, I understand..." The woman's tears were still flowing.

The man smiled and took the card, putting it in his pocket. Only then did he notice the little girl in the school uniform behind Meng Beiyan, who was blinking intently with dark circles under her eyes. "I didn't expect Attorney Meng to have this kind of fetish... Hahahaha."

The mocking laughter reached her ears, but Ying Qian remained expressionless. She looked up at Meng Beiyan, who was suppressing his resentment, and said, "Uncle, we are relatives in name only, but it's really inappropriate for you to insult my brother like this."

The man said nonchalantly, "Don't try to act like we're related. Do I, an elder, need a little girl like you to discipline me?"

"I don't think someone like you can be considered an elder!" she said arrogantly.
