Chapter Seven: A Morning Encounter

Early in the morning, when it was still barely light, Ying Qian woke up to find herself in a soft bed, and she already guessed that Meng Beiyan had returned last night.

I changed out of my pajamas and into a tracksuit. I looked in the mirror and saw that I was a little thin, but I still had all the right amount of flesh in me. My eyelashes fluttered like wings.

She rubbed her slightly aching temples and went to wash up.

Hearing Ying Qian's loud commotion, a hoarse voice came from the kitchen: "Ying Qian, I'm taking you to school today."

The toothbrush rubbed against her teeth, and she stammered, unable to answer clearly: "When?"

Meng Beiyan paused for a moment before recognizing what she was saying, "Go after you finish breakfast."

Breakfast was simple: a sandwich and a glass of milk.

Silence.

Ying Qian ate her sandwich, her eyes fixed on Meng Beiyan. He looked extremely tired, his face pale and haggard, with dark circles under his eyes, and he seemed to have no strength left in his body.

She was terrified that Meng Beiyan would faint at any moment.

Will the company lose money? Her thoughts drifted away...

Honestly, even if you're exhausted, you shouldn't end up like this.

"Don't just stand there, eat." A hoarse voice sounded beside me.

This brought Ying Qian back to her senses.

She couldn't help but ask, "Brother, are you very tired? Did you not sleep well last night? Or are you exhausted from work?"

After asking the question, she didn't forget to say a few nice things: "If you're home in the future, I'll make breakfast so you can sleep in a little longer."

These three questions, along with a bunch of nonsense, reached Meng Beiyan's ears.

His light brown pupils shone like priceless gems in the dim light. He lowered his gaze and gave a weak laugh.

It was as if he was trying to comfort her: "You just didn't sleep well."

He may not have taken the following words to heart, or perhaps he simply didn't want to answer.

It was true that she hadn't slept well. Ying Qian sighed. She had woken up in a daze last night and heard him taking a shower. It was already one o'clock in the morning at that time.

She finished the sandwich in a few bites, and drank a couple of sips of milk, which made her stomach churn, but she was too embarrassed to throw it away in front of her brother.

I had no choice but to endure the nausea and finish it.

She tactfully took away her breakfast and washed the dishes and cups.

This is all so as not to be kicked out.

"Brother, I'll go to school by myself. You can catch up on some sleep at home." Ying Qian said without hesitation, quickly went to her room to grab her bag, slung it over her shoulder, and smiled brightly.

Meng Beiyan's expression was solemn, and he pinched his brow a few times with his fingers.

When Ying Qian stood in front of him again, everything was ready except for the final push.

“I disagree.” He stood up.

As the tall figure loomed over her, Ying Qian was alarmed: This was definitely an excuse... If I let him take me there and something happened to him on the way, I could forget about staying at this place...

She reacted in just 0.5 seconds, blurting out, "Brother, if you insist on giving it to me, we'll... never speak to each other again!"

"Are you threatening me?" The tone was flat, with a hint of disbelief.

The air pressure around him dropped several degrees. He closed his eyes, about to speak.

Ying Qian shut him down with one sentence: "Brother, I'm doing this for your own good!"

She noticed that the extremely low air pressure was slowly rising.

Unfortunately, with the light behind him, it was difficult to detect the subtle emotional fluctuations in Meng Beiyan's eyes.

Ying Qian is very good at reading people's expressions and demeanor.

Taking advantage of Meng Beiyan's silence. A perfect opportunity!

"Brother, get some rest." After she finished speaking, a blush crept onto her fair face, and she pretended to choke up. "I'm the one who disrupted the balance of your life. Just think of it as me trying to be more obedient and not cause you any trouble!"

"..."

“Ying Qian…”

Ying Qian had already reached the door when his voice became heavy and hoarse, and tenderness filled her entire body. She resisted the urge to turn around, opened the door, and waved to Meng Beiyan as if nothing had happened.

Goodbye, don't worry, I'll take good care of myself.

The door slammed shut.

Only muffled breathing could be heard in the room.

Ying Qian breathed a sigh of relief and ran towards the entrance of the residential area to embrace the first rays of dawn.

She turned her head, exclaiming in admiration: "I'm so good! So cool! It would be a disservice to my acting skills if Meng Beiyan kicked me out..."

Ying Qian was all smiles one second, but the next second, as she reached the entrance of the residential area, her smile froze. She suddenly stopped, feeling lost and helpless in the unfamiliar surroundings.

She had absolutely no idea how to get to school!

Damn it! She looked at the sky in frustration, wishing she hadn't put on the play this morning.

Originally, Ying Qian should have been considered an introverted girl, but life forced her to become extroverted, relying on her liveliness and domineering nature to create a natural barrier at school.

"Grandpa, do you know where No. 3 Middle School is?" she asked with a smile as she approached the security guard in the community.

The security guard nodded and kindly gave her directions.

The old man used the terms "east, west, south, north" to describe directions. Ying Qian sighed, feeling utterly unlucky. She couldn't understand them and was too embarrassed to say anything, so she could only rely on the old man's hand gestures to find her way around.

She tried to follow her sixth sense.

At this time, the breakfast shops are bustling with activity, thick white smoke billowing from the steamers and drifting outwards with the wind, filling the entire street of shops with the aroma of noodles.

"Chen Wenzhi, didn't your mom make you breakfast?"

"Um."

A casual conversation reached Ying Qian's ears. She wasn't interested in breakfast, but she was very interested in the name "Chen Wenzhi"...

A boy stood in front of the wonton shop. His black and white school uniform was not special among the group of students. When he looked up, the reflection of his glasses shone directly into Ying Qian's eyes.

She grasped at the straw, her eyes shining, and walked up to the boy, patting his right shoulder without thinking, "Chen Wenzhi, we meet again."
