Chapter 15 Bruce got pregnant again without telling us
145.
Barbara and Dick had been gone for a few days. I looked up at the sky at a 45-degree angle, and before I had time to feel melancholy, I received a frightened call from Dick.
"Bruce...Bruce he...!" Dick's tone contained three parts of grief, three parts of anger, three parts of jealousy and one part of disbelief.
My already anxious heart burned even more after hearing this, and I almost flew across the Pacific Ocean on my sword. "What's going on? Explain clearly!"
"Bruce has a new partner!" Dick shouted aggrievedly.
Oh, what’s the big deal? I was about to hang up the phone indifferently.
It's just my sister or my brother. I knew a long time ago that my dad was a Gotham bird that loved picking up children. My sisters were all cute and obedient, and my brothers were also human beings.
"It's not your sister or brother, it's an alien!" Dick said anxiously.
Oh, aliens. Well, my mom's an alien too, and I'm half alien. Is partnering with an alien really that shocking? Then Dick should make it up to me to be shocked eight hundred times.
"He has black hair and blue eyes! And he's two years older than Bruce!" Dick added.
Bruce doesn't want to own all the black-haired and blue-eyed girls!
No way.
Right…?
146.
The system took this opportunity to pop up a pop-up window.
[Sudden mission: Go back and see if Bruce really wants to adopt a new little boy (?).
Mission Introduction:
Bruce Wayne, Gotham's renowned tycoon and philanthropist, owns a "Distressed Kids Club." He not only loves picking up children, but he's also considering expanding his "family." This time, your brother Dick panics and tells you Bruce is collaborating with an alien and even taking him into the Batcave! As the eldest Wayne daughter, you need to go back and verify the situation, lest your family's status be jeopardized (?).
Mission objectives:
1. Return to Gotham and confirm the identity of the "new partner" with Bruce.
2. Ensure that their family status is not threatened (maybe).
3. Calm down Dick, preventing him from becoming the second Joker due to a sense of crisis (exaggerated metaphor).
Mission Rewards: 10 cosmic fragments, +10 family harmony, and unexpected information about a new partner (possible).
Failure penalty:
Family status may be squeezed by "new members".
Dick's sense of crisis is increasing, and he may run to form the "Teen Titans" in the future to fight against Batman and his new partner (don't!).
Tip: The sense of crisis among family members is sometimes more difficult to handle, so please be careful with Dick's emotions! 】
I was silent for a moment. "System, you're not quiet either. Why are you trying to make trouble for me?" This quest was even clearer than the main quest.
Then he coughed lightly, "Dick, calm down first. What did you just say? Black hair and blue eyes? And two years older than Bruce?"
"Yes! And Bruce even said he was a 'trustworthy comrade'. God, when has he ever spoken so highly of anyone?" Dick's tone was filled with deep grievance, as if Bruce had betrayed his trust.
I tried hard to stifle my laughter and sound calm. "Okay, I admit this news is a bit unexpected. But who is this alien? What's his name?"
"Clark Kent!" Dick spat out the name through gritted teeth. "Listen, what a common name, but Bruce has a special liking for him! He can fly, he's incredibly strong, and he's invulnerable to swords and guns. It's simply cheating!"
I instantly thought of a super human image that debuted a few years ago, with a red cape and a warm smile.
"So... Bruce wants to work with him to deal with the criminals in Gotham?" I asked tentatively.
"Uh... not really, but Bruce was willing to let him into the Batcave! Even Alfred hasn't approved us bringing strangers into the Batcave!" Dick continued to accuse, his voice full of indignation, "And he even broke Aunt Lin Yao's teacup!"
This actually made me stunned for a moment, "What? He even broke my mom's teacup? This guy is a bit of a problem."
"Right! I told you this alien is unreliable!" Dick's spirits instantly soared, as if he had found a supporter. "Leona, come back soon! We need to wake Bruce up."
I thought for a moment and said, "Okay, I'll be back as soon as possible. But Dick, don't be too quick to deny Clark. Maybe he really is something special."
"Hmph." Dick replied sullenly, "But I still think he's here to take my place."
"Don't worry, you will always be Robin." I comforted her, hung up the phone, and turned to look at Ms. Lin Yao who was packing packages.
"Mom, I might have to go back to Gotham early."
"What happened?" She looked up with a look of concern.
"Bruce has a new partner." I said with a complicated tone, "He's an alien."
Ms. Lin Yao raised an eyebrow. "Aliens? That's quite interesting."
"Yeah," I sighed, "but Dick's about to explode. I have to go back and check on him."
"Go ahead." Ms. Lin Yao waved her hand. "I'm looking forward to you coming back and bringing me some gossip."
I nodded, turned around, put on my invisibility cloak, and flew into the sky with my sword (after all, I was not yet of legal age to fly a sword outdoors), heading straight for Gotham City.
147.
It was just getting dark when we arrived in Gotham.
I hurried into the manor and found Alfu busy in the kitchen. He looked up at me and smiled slightly. "Miss Leona, it seems Master Dick has already told you?"
"About the new partner?" I raised an eyebrow. "Clark Kent, Superman. It seems Bruce's taste hasn't changed over the years..."
Alfu nodded slightly and handed me a cup of coffee. "Mr. Superman is indeed special and a trustworthy ally. However, don't you think Master Dick will have some...small emotional fluctuations because of this?"
"Of course Dick is upset. He feels like his position has been taken away." I shrugged. "But Alfu, what do you think of this Clark?"
Ah Fu pondered for a moment and said calmly, "He is a man of outstanding ability, but the greater the ability, the greater the responsibility. I hope he can understand that Gotham is not Metropolis, and the Wayne family's teacups are not to be touched casually."
Hearing this, I couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Afu, you care about the teacup too?"
A sly glint flashed in Ah Fu's eyes. "It's not just a vessel, it's a memory."
I shook my head helplessly and put down the coffee cup. "Well, I have to see this Superman with my own eyes and help Little Wing calm him down."
Ah Fu watched me walk towards the training room and said softly, "I hope Miss won't make it too difficult for him."
I slipped into the Batcave as if I knew the way, and as soon as I entered, I heard a low and warm laugh - from that "Clark Kent".
"Oh my God, can he really smile so warmly?" I muttered softly and walked towards the sound.
Bruce was standing in front of the computer, discussing something with the tall alien, while Dick was standing beside him with his arms crossed, a look of "I don't accept" written all over his face.
Barbara? She was too lazy to participate in such a meaningless activity. She might as well write another talisman instead of fighting Superman.
"Oh, Leona!" Clark—he had a very square and majestic appearance, in other words, he looked very peaceful and healthy—immediately revealed a simple and honest smile upon seeing me. "You are Bruce's daughter, right? I've heard a lot about you."
"Like?" I raised my eyebrows and looked at Bruce warily.
Bruce turned his head calmly, "For example, your performance in the cultivation world is quite good."
Oh, sure enough, he has been secretly monitoring me.
"Hello." I looked at Clark, extended my hand, and put on a polite smile. "I'm Peregrine Falcon, my real name is Ringo, you can also call me Leona."
"I'm Superman, Clark Kent, nice to meet you too." Clark shook my hand with just the right strength and politely.
Dick snorted beside him and muttered, "What a hypocrite."
I turned around and glared at him, whispering, "Don't make trouble."
"I didn't." Dick looked aggrieved, "He's not worthy!"
I sighed in frustration and looked at Bruce, "So, new partner? What's going on?"
Bruce replied calmly, "A temporary partner. He's investigating a case involving alien technology, and I need his help."
I bet there's some personal vendetta going on here, about the three of us being away for six months and leaving him all alone in the Batcave.
"Sounds reasonable." I nodded, but I had already made up my mind to find a chance to observe this alien carefully.
"Leona." Clark suddenly said, "Bruce told me about you and said you are very good. I am looking forward to working with you."
"Oh?" I smiled and raised my eyebrows. "Then don't let me down."
"Absolutely not." He answered confidently.
148.
"It seems you've had a good chat." Batman whispered, his tone revealing something unfathomable. "Clark is a trustworthy ally. I hope you can give him some time."
Robin snorted from the side, "I hope he doesn't break any more teacups."
"I assure you, it was an accident." Superman looked at us apologetically. "I didn't expect that thing to fall down suddenly. I will compensate you."
"Compensation?" Robin crossed his arms and sneered, "This is Aunt Lin Yao's teacup. What are you going to give me as compensation?"
"Well... maybe try the Kansas specialty tacos." Superman replied seriously.
Oh my god, how on earth could this guy even come up with such a bizarre proposal with such a serious face? I stifled my laughter and quickly changed the subject, "Since we're allies, why don't you take Dick and me on a patrol? We've got to see what this super partner is capable of."
Batman pondered for a moment, and finally nodded, "Okay, but you have to follow my instructions."
"Of course." I smiled slightly, "We are the most obedient."
"Oh, right." Robin couldn't help but interrupt, "Will I still have the chance to witness how aliens work together?"
"You'll see." Batman stood up and motioned for us to follow. "Get ready. Our target tonight is a group of robbers who are trying to obtain some alien technology through illegal channels."
149.
Gotham is still gloomy under the night sky. The faint moonlight shines between the tall buildings, outlining the outline of a city full of sin.
The three of us used our grappling guns to leap from rooftop to rooftop, while Superman floated easily beside us, looking like a tireless bird.
"This guy doesn't even need a grappling hook?" Robin muttered softly.
"You should be thankful he doesn't have a cape," I couldn't help but complain, "otherwise he would look more like a bird when flying."
Superman obviously heard our conversation and turned around with a simple smile, "I heard that Gotham people have a low acceptance of people with super powers, so I try to keep a low profile."
"Good, keep it up," Batman responded coldly, "We're getting there."
The target is a warehouse located at an abandoned dock, where a group of black market traders are trying to hand over a batch of alien weapons of unknown origin.
Superman took the lead in scanning the entire building and reported in a low voice, "There are twelve people, two of whom are guarding the door, three are with the goods, and two groups are observing upstairs."
"Very good." Batman quickly laid out the plan, "Superman will be responsible for infiltrating the interior for support, Robin will cover the perimeter, and Peregrine and I will clear the guards."
"Understood." Robin and I nodded at the same time.
150.
Before we set off, Ah Fu prepared a simple dinner for us. As he handed me an energy bar, he said meaningfully, "Miss, sometimes, a person's value isn't measured by how much they can accomplish, but by how they collaborate with others."
I stopped and looked at him, "You mean Clark?"
Ah Fu nodded slightly, "Yes. His strength is unquestionable, but in a team, strength is not the most important thing."
"What is that?" I asked.
"Trust." Ah Fu smiled slightly, "Master trusts him, so you should give him the same opportunity."
I nodded, put the energy bar in my pocket, and turned to walk towards the Batmobile parked nearby. "Don't worry, Alfred. I'll try to trust him."
"I wish you a smooth operation." Ah Fu said behind him, his voice as calm as ever.
The operation went very smoothly. Superman used his super perception and speed to accurately subdue several robbers, while we were responsible for quickly dealing with the remaining guards.
"Hey, this guy is really good." Robin popped his head out from the corner and looked at Superman easily subduing a robber who tried to resist, with a bit of dissatisfaction in his tone, "But it still feels a bit like cheating."
"We don't have any rules prohibiting cheating." I patted his shoulder. "As long as the task is completed, it doesn't matter how it is done."
"That's right." Robin nodded reluctantly.
Just as we finished cleaning up the last robber, an alien weapon flashing with a faint blue light suddenly activated.
"Oh no!" Superman rushed forward quickly and blocked us with his body.
The huge shock wave threw him back, but he quickly regained his balance and was unharmed.
"Are you okay?" He turned to look at us, his eyes full of worry.
"We're fine," Batman whispered, a flicker of appreciation in his eyes. "Good job."
"Thank you." Superman smiled.
Robin said sullenly, "Well, maybe he's not bad after all."
"It seems he still has a lot of work to do to get you to fully accept him," I joked.
Superman scratched his head and gave a helpless but warm smile, "I'll do my best."
During this night patrol, we finally got to know our new partner better, and Dick's hostility seemed to have dissipated somewhat.
I was very calm from the beginning to the end. I never considered Superman my rival. Please, this time it was just because of the alien connection, so Batman was willing to let him occasionally get involved in Gotham, but how could he agree to let him come every time?
Haha, I don’t care at all. There’s no way Superman will replace Peregrine’s position beside Batman!
151.
After completing the mission, we returned to the Batcave. Superman smiled and whispered with Batman, while he drank a large cup of coffee with his powerful lungs that did not require oxygen.
Robin stared at him from the side, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. I knew what he was thinking: This guy is so incredibly powerful, why is he still trying to steal Gotham's work?
And me? I don't care at all.
Please, who am I? I'm Peregrine. Batman's only biological daughter, the eldest daughter of the Wayne family, a top scholar in every discipline of sword cultivation, the Batman family's chief high-altitude combat expert, and the jewel of Gotham's night patrol.
Superman? He just makes an occasional cameo appearance to deal with alien weapon incidents.
"Clark Kent, no matter how capable he is, he is just a foreign aid." I thought silently in my heart, and even a sneer appeared at the corner of my mouth.
152.
Robin finally couldn't help it. He stood up suddenly, slammed the boxing stick in his hand on the table, and stared at Bruce, "You don't really intend to let him come to the Batcave all the time?!"
Batman looked up, his tone as calm as if he were discussing what to have for dinner tonight, "He is a trusted ally, but his primary duty is in Metropolis."
"Right, right, right!" Robin's eyes lit up and he quickly agreed, "He should go back to Metropolis and focus on his superhero career!"
"Tonight is a special case." Batman continued to explain, "There aren't many cases involving alien weapons, and he has more experience in handling them."
Superman seemed to understand something and gave a gentle smile, "Don't worry, I won't take your job. I'm just helping."
Robin curled his lips and muttered under his breath, "But you look like someone who would steal the spotlight."
I couldn't help but laugh, "Little Wing, he just flies a little faster than you, is a little stronger than you, and smiles a little warmer than you—"
"That's enough!" Robin rolled his eyes, "I get it!"
Superman spread his hands helplessly, "I really didn't mean to steal your thunder. Bruce already warned me."
"You should have warned him if he tried to steal the spotlight," I added. "Dick, you're Batman's Robin."
"Of course." Robin immediately raised his head and said proudly.
153.
After the mission summary, Superman prepared to leave.
Before he left, he turned to me and said, "Leona, you're amazing. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you again."
"Thank you." I smiled. "But you should spend more time in Metropolis. Gotham has its own pace."
Superman was stunned for a moment, then smiled, "I see. Gotham's rhythm... is very unique."
"Also," I added, "I have a feeling this is related to that Luther who criticizes you every day. You should pay more attention to him."
Superman's smile widened, "Okay, I'll keep an eye on him."
Watching his leaving figure, Robin leaned against the table and curled his lips, "What a good-tempered guy."
"It doesn't matter. His good temper won't affect your position in Bruce's heart." I patted his shoulder. "You are still his only Robin."
"Hmph, do you even need to tell me that?" Robin puffed out his chest, but the smile in the corner of his eyes betrayed him.
And me? Still calm as ever.
Haha, no matter whether it is Superman or anyone else, it is impossible for him to replace my position as the Peregrine Falcon beside Batman.
154.
"But..." I paused and lowered my voice deliberately, "He seems to like you quite a bit."
"What?" Robin's eyes widened instantly. "Don't be ridiculous! There's no way that alien looks like he likes me!"
"I'm talking about brotherly admiration," I blinked. "After all, wasn't he just praising your skills?"
Robin's expression was a little complicated, as if he was wondering if Superman's words had any other meaning.
"Don't think too much about it." I smiled and shook my head. "Gotham isn't his territory. He was just passing by and checking in."
"That's great." Robin breathed a sigh of relief and sat back in his chair. "Gotham doesn't need any alien superheroes. We can rely on ourselves."
"Yeah." I looked at the screen where Superman was leaving, and the corners of my mouth curled up slightly. "But, he did give us a reminder."
Batman suddenly interjected, "I'll check out what's going on with Luthor."
"Very good." I nodded. "But are you sure Luthor really dares to reach out to Gotham? Although that guy was particularly crazy when facing Superman, didn't he say that he would always stand on the side of humanity? Researching and selling alien weapons on a large scale, is this what he calls standing on the side of humanity?"
"Crazy people who think they're smart are usually a little unpredictable." Batman's eyes were calm and sharp, "So we have to be prepared in advance."
"Okay, I'll leave it to you then." I turned and headed to the locker room to change out of my night patrol uniform. "I hope Luther is just bored and doesn't make any big news."
"If there is, I will take care of it." Bruce's voice was low but firm.
I glanced back, a small smile on my face. "Of course, you're Batman."
After I changed into casual clothes and was about to leave the Batcave, a new task window popped up on the system:
[Main Quest: Explore the secrets of Lex Luthor (in progress).
Mission Introduction:
Lex Luthor, a balding genius, business magnate, and human supremacist, sees himself as the savior of humanity. Superman is his primary target, but lately, he seems to have his sights set on much more, including alien technology, genetic experimentation, and the potential for exploitation of Kryptonite. Your mission is to uncover his conspiracy and prevent the potential disaster he unleashes on Earth.
Mission objectives:
1. Gather more information about Luthor Labs.
2. Determine his true intentions in dealing with the black market for alien technology.
3. Monitor Luthor for further plans against the Justice League or Gotham.
Mission Rewards:
500 Cosmic Fragments, 3 Star Track Passes, and the "Lex Luthor: The Mystery of Humanity" archive unlocked.
Tip: Luther is a shrewd opponent. You need to act cautiously and use the assistance of your allies.
I stared at the task interface in a daze for a while, muttering, "Well, it seems this guy is really a troublemaker."
Bruce noticed my expression, walked over and whispered, "What did you find?"
"The system has given me another mission." I shrugged. "Looks like we'll have a lot of battles of wits and courage with Luther in the days ahead."
"Very good." He nodded, his eyes calm but sharp. "Then be prepared. Any slackness will put us at a disadvantage."
I smiled, "Don't worry, I won't underestimate Luther."
Dick jumped down from his chair and stood next to us, "Me neither! What are we going to do next?"
"Go and rest first." Bruce said coldly, "We'll discuss the plan tomorrow."
Robin curled his lips, seemingly dissatisfied with the answer, but finally obeyed the order.
After returning to the room, I sat cross-legged on the bed, staring at the task interface in a daze.
"Exploring Luther's secrets..." I whispered, "Why does it feel like a bottomless pit?"
But no matter how difficult the task is, I know that this path must be taken. After all, I am Peregrine Falcon, a part of Gotham.
Just as I was lost in thought, the system popped up a prompt again:
[Side quest: Collect dynamic information about Gotham-related forces (to be triggered).
Mission Introduction:
Gotham is a complex city, rife with conflicting forces. Understanding their dynamics is the first step to maintaining order.
Mission Reward: Cosmic Fragments x 100. 】
I looked at the task interface and couldn't help but sigh: "Looks like I won't be able to sleep well tonight."
Picking up the device next to me, I began to check Gotham's intelligence network, preparing to pave the way for the next move. In my mind, I was already thinking about various possibilities of dealing with Luther.
Gotham's nights are always so long.
