How should I put it? This is a story about a dumb protagonist who transmigrates to another world, gains superpowers, and then lives a lazy life, interspersed with a bunch of weird things that pop u...
Changgu led everyone away from the original place. They walked all the way and finally stopped near a cave entrance covered by several wooden boards.
"Are you ready? Walk lightly, breathe lightly, and slow your heartbeat."
Li Wenjia adjusted himself and nodded.
Goodnight wouldn't come, he still had things to learn; Brokenstar wouldn't come either, he still had things to teach. They squatted by the cave entrance, working together to carefully move the plank away.
An empty room appeared before everyone.
Changgu's pupils dilated wide, and he leaned in to look around.
Seeing that the situation inside had not changed, he retracted his head, made a few gestures to Li Wenjia, and then left his spears and sticks in place, taking only a hunting knife.
This is not tactical sign language, but it is quite vivid, and Li Wenjia quickly understood what he wanted to say.
"Step over, and don't rub your feet on the ground. Don't talk, just follow me. If I stop, you stop. You'll be safe on the second floor, but don't let your guard down. Also, take care of your belongings. Anything that makes noise should be left here first."
Li Wenjia calmed down and turned to see Changgu taking off his shoes. A strange smell emanated from him, making Changgu frown. He hid his shoes in the snow and gestured for Li Wenjia to do the same.
Li Wenjia took off his backpack and placed the two machetes and his rubber shoes on the ground. Then, following Changgu, he slowly and steadily passed through the cave entrance and stood in the room.
The room had been cleaned very carefully, with almost no dust. A slight draft of air could be heard from the entrance, and the two people left behind were already moving the wooden planks back into place.
Stepping barefoot on the cold concrete floor reminded Li Wenjia of his previous midnight bathroom breaks. This kind of sneaky pleasure had once given him a surge of adrenaline. Unfortunately, this time, he couldn't allow himself to be so excited.
Two pairs of feet stepped on the rough ground without making a sound. The soft biological tissue on the feet played a good cushioning role, and even the vibration did not travel very far.
After walking a few steps, they came to a staircase.
In the dim light, Li Wenjia saw some community notices left over from before the war posted on the wall next to the stairs.
The content of the notice was not very clear, but Li Wenjia knew what was written on it. In fact, he had also worked as a leaflet distributor during his wandering days before the war.
He missed those days a little, which were actually only a few months ago.
Longbone paused at the stairwell and glanced upward. The house had collapsed, leaving several steps and a resting platform completely exposed to the drone's view. Without getting too nervous, he took a step, lowered his body, and crouched on all fours on the sloping staircase, turning his head to look up at the sky.
A dark shadow passed through the sky, and Changgu immediately turned around and pulled Li Wenjia into the shadow under the stairs.
After a while, the sound of disturbed air flow came from the space above through the stairs.
Li Wenjia was calm now. He stared at Changgu, anticipating his next move. The drone had clearly been alarmed, but what kind of drone was the one that was sent to conduct the flesh reconnaissance?
Battlefield pilots couldn't possibly be equipped with the most advanced sensors; they were essentially consumables, practically just enough to be effective. Truly top-tier life-searching devices were often only used in life-saving situations, such as disaster rescue teams.
Of course, technology diffuses, and their technology evolves as technology advances. Even the most low-quality sensors today are much more sensitive than their primitive versions from decades ago.
The unknown drone hovered above the stairs, seeming to be hesitating about something.
Changgu is very patient and is waiting for an opportunity.
Machines have no patience. There was one reason, and one reason only, for its departure: energy. The drone switched through several different search modes, seemingly growing bored. It didn't move any closer to the darkness. At the border of shadow and light, it turned.
Almost at the same time, Changgu started moving. Li Wenjia followed closely behind, still remembering what Changgu had said.
They almost followed the drone up the stairs. The drone was obviously not equipped with omnidirectional radar and had no sense of what was behind it.
In a flash, Li Wenjia saw that the drone was a Z-17. It was only twenty centimeters in diameter, square in shape, and unarmed, making it a rather small drone compared to its companions. Li Wenjia didn't know how Changgu determined its type, but it was clear he had developed a reliable technique.
The two men went up to the second floor quietly, while the drone continued to rise in altitude.
The second floor was half collapsed, with part of the third floor falling down, forming a slope on the second floor, while the third floor had completely disappeared.
Changgu brought Li Wenjia to the slope and hid his body under the remaining ceiling.
They gained a field of view of nearly sixty degrees, and the large drone they had discovered earlier was completely exposed in their field of vision.
Of course, exposure works both ways.
The drone quickly took action, the rotor on one side sped up, and it began to change direction.
"Don't worry, we have several seconds." Long Bones said in a normal voice, "Aim for the middle of it. Here you can hit its lower battery."
Li Wenjia immediately raised his longbow, the immense force of the pull causing the bow arm to curve into a perfect arc. He used his left index finger as a sight, aiming at the nearby drone.
