Chapter 19 The Unpredictable Future

After your superiors got scolded, how could you possibly get away with it? Jiang Ling didn't listen to their nonsense any more. There was only so much useful information in their words. These people were probably just sent to run errands. She led the two white-haired men, one large and one small, behind her and walked back along the line, finally arriving at the end.

Strangely enough, as they moved along the line, the voices of the young men beside them became quieter. By the time they reached the back of the line, the soldiers ahead of them had completely shut up, as if they would die if they spoke. Even stranger still, the soldiers who arrived after them didn't follow closely behind them, but instead hung further away.

Although Jiang Ling didn't know the cause of this phenomenon, she was happy with the different treatment, so as to avoid the same fate as those novels - encountering a soldier and being entangled all night. After all, according to the time on the surface, it should be late at night.

She had no idea that the station she was at was home to a reserve unit, and naturally, she had no idea that they were a rare species here. These young soldiers had likely just finished training, and most of them hadn't yet learned how to interact with the opposite sex. Furthermore, the three of them had exquisite looks, unlike any other girl.

The long line moved slowly... Ruan Danxin's patience was much greater than Jiang Ling had imagined. Jiang Ling had thought that Ruan Danxin, who looked like a child, would also have the same lack of concentration as a child. Now it seemed that she was just pretending.

The first one who couldn't hold on was Bai Wu. She soon began to pant, then squatted down holding her chest.

Jiang Ling had been keeping an eye on the two white-haired creatures behind her, so she reacted instantly. She reached out and tapped the white head leaning against her back, looking into its sleepy, wine-red eyes and asked, "What happened to Bai Wu?"

Ruan Danxin slowly turned her head and glanced behind her, then she murmured in a barely perceptible voice, "It's the same old problem. Her two big pineapples are too heavy. This time, my waist must be sore." After she said that, she leaned against Jiang Ling's back again, rubbed against it, and found a more comfortable position.

This guy!!!

Jiang Ling thought she was patient, but it turned out she was just sleeping?

But how does this guy control his legs while sleeping?

Could it be that she has dolphin habits mixed into her genes?

Jiang Ling felt like she was falling behind the times again. These mutants were clearly much more adaptable than she was. Initially, she'd been smug about her own superior stamina, but now she was a little envious of the guy behind her who could stay half asleep and half awake.

Which is better: not needing to sleep for several days or sleeping while walking? Jiang Ling still prefers the latter. Although the former is sometimes useful, the long-term mental tension will cause the psychological pressure to soar to a terrifying level.

Proper rest can not only relax the body, but also reduce the loss of the mind.

Fortunately, the line wasn't long, and the department operated in three shifts around the clock. After walking slowly for nearly three hours, the three of them finally reached the department's door. The noise in the room grew louder as they approached.

The first thing that reached the ears of the people outside was a man's voice: "...No, absolutely not! If I give it to you, what about the others? The production is limited now. Even if you kill me, I won't have any more!"

"Come on, accompany me to see it. If not, I will let you meet my comrades!" At the same time, another furious voice was heard.

"What are you doing! What are you doing! Guards!" As soon as the voice fell, two large men grappling with each other rolled out from the doorway. This startled the several young soldiers who were eavesdropping at the doorway, but they simply surrounded the two men and had no intention of stepping forward to separate them.

Ruan Danxin, sound asleep, was completely oblivious to the scene ahead. Jiang Ling could even hear faint snoring behind her. The two men at the front of the group were still tangling, and the arrival of the guards had been unable to de-escalate the conflict. These two clowns held higher ranks than anyone else, so their brawl couldn't be handled according to standard military law.

Soon, Jiang Ling could clearly see the faces of the two people fighting from the gaps between the crowd in front. One of them was a colonel-level officer with a square face. The two-star epaulettes on this guy were torn to the ground by another fat man. And this fat man was not in a good situation either. His pants had several holes in them, and the striped underwear inside was exposed.

The incident ultimately ended with the blackened muzzles of the patrolling military police's guns. Although the threat of force had temporarily halted their "argument," Jiang Ling suspected the two were not done yet. From their swearing and harsh words, it was clear that this wasn't the first time they had been so rowdy.

The fat man simply brushed off the dust on his body, muttering some nonsense, then turned around helplessly and went back into the room, calling on the people behind him in the team to hurry up.

Jiang Ling used her sensory ability to shout to the two white-haired creatures behind her, "It's our turn now, wake up!"

Ruan Danxin quickly regained consciousness. She yawned and asked, "Ah, are we there yet?"

The White Wizard stood up from the ground, but this time he shook his shoulders.

When Jiang Ling and the other two walked into the room, they were immediately overwhelmed by the strong smell of coffee steam.

"Ahem~ What is the procedure for picking up a vehicle?" Jiang Ling shouted from inside, but the noise here drowned out her voice.

There were many desks neatly arranged here, and many people in military uniforms were walking back and forth, some of them arguing with those sitting in their desks. This place looked very much like the spy agencies in old TV dramas, except that the beeping electronic sounds were replaced by chaotic human voices.

This was Jiang Ling's first time in a place like this, so she could only shamelessly find a workstation with a pile of printed paper on the table. "Excuse me, where can I pick up the vehicle?"

The man didn't stop, but his voice was loud and clear: "Looking for our boss!"

When the people in the room heard someone calling for their boss again, they suddenly quieted down. The noisy environment suddenly became silent. Then, the chubby man they had seen before poked half his head out of a door marked "Manager" and asked, "Who's looking for me?"

Everyone turned to look at Jiang Ling, and for a moment, it felt as if they had created an invisible passage. Jiang Ling involuntarily led Ruan Danxin and Bai Wu toward the room. People along the way made way for them, as if they were seeing off warriors heading to the battlefield.

Jiang Ling walked up to the fat man. She was about the same height as him, so she kept her eyes straight ahead, staring into his eyes. The fat man's mouth twitched, and he muttered, "You...what's your relationship with Lao Wan? I, let me be frank, I don't have a truck, but I have my life!"

"Who is Lao Wan?" Jiang Ling tilted his head, puzzled.

"Ha! Why didn't you tell me earlier? Come on, come on!" The fat man heaved a sigh of relief when he heard it wasn't Lao Wan's business. He then enthusiastically ushered Jiang Ling and the other two into the room. "What do you need? I have everything here...except a truck."

"Do we have amphibious armored personnel carriers?" Jiang Ling asked.
