How should I put it? This is a story about a dumb protagonist who transmigrates to another world, gains superpowers, and then lives a lazy life, interspersed with a bunch of weird things that pop u...
Li Wenjia's low-light vision was not very good, and he was unable to bring the relevant equipment with him when he came out, so he almost listened to Wan An's narration the whole time.
Changgu was still fascinated by the scenes on the hillside. His expression was very similar to the way Li Wenjia watched documentaries as a child.
"Why drink water? Wouldn't it be more convenient to just eat snow?"
"Why not eat meat? Think again about the essential difference between ice and snow and flowing water."
They are both water, but water at zero degrees contains more energy than ice at zero degrees.
That's the answer.
Theoretically, drinking water is more cost-effective for animals than eating snow directly. And this cost-effectiveness may also have to take into account the extra energy consumed by going to great lengths for several hours to drink water.
Not only that, ice and snow can irritate the mouth and intestines, which can be fatal in harsh natural environments.
Before Li Wenjia could figure it out, Broken Star said, "But there are exceptions. At least, the leader only eats snow."
"Do you recognize it?"
"Yeah. I almost died at its hands. A cow that protects its calf. Not to be trifled with."
"So what did you do?" Li Wenjia was still a little curious. He poked Shuixing's lower back with his finger.
Broken Star was embarrassed to speak, but Long Bones spoke for him, "He plucked the hair from the ox. You might not know this, but the hair on the young oxen is incredibly good at keeping warm. He was in a good mood at the time, and after much deliberation, he made this awful move. He ended up losing both the wife and the army, and gained nothing. So, what did you do with that little hair?"
"Here, this is it." Suixing blushed and pointed to the red rope on her wrist, which was strung with several animal teeth.
It turned out to be a relationship with an older man, and Li Wenjia's mouth twitched.
Wan An was a little envious. He asked, "What happened next? Who is she? Is she still in the tribe now?"
"She~" Changgu sighed, "She and her lover were burned to ashes by the thunder and fire. Anyway, you two should stop running outside so often in the future."
So that's how it is? Everything now connects.
As they chatted and laughed, the herd of cattle headed north. Of course, those that were left alone did not die in the fish's belly. Their hooves had bristles that could sense vibrations, and their suspicious nature would make them flee at the slightest sign of trouble.
The group had been lingering on the hillside for quite some time. If they didn't take a shortcut, they might not reach safety before dawn. So Changgu immediately decided to cross the river while the strange fish were still recovering.
Several people stood two meters apart on the ice, holding their weapons tightly.
What Goodnight held in his hand looked like a baseball bat, but it was actually made of metal. This meant that this guy's strength was also far beyond that of an ordinary person.
Li Wenjia imitated Long Bones, lowering his body and using his muscles to cushion the impact, minimizing the vibrations he generated.
Of course he knew what the monster in the river was. The action that took place two months ago seemed to have happened yesterday.
The monsters, dubbed fighting fish by the expedition team, are typically four to ten meters long. They resemble ice cones and move incredibly fast through the water. Their heads are covered in a chitinous shell, and their bodies are coated in a lubricating mucus. They use kinetic energy to break through the ice, and with enough of them, they can penetrate even several meters of ice.
He didn't know how the people in the urban area caught them. It was said that there had actually been some eyewitness reports before that operation.
They did have a plan, but they didn't anticipate the sheer number of fish. These freshwater fish have almost no natural predators, and it's like they're some kind of invasive species.
Their pace was much slower than a normal walk, but fortunately the river wasn't too wide. They moved safely on the ice for over an hour, until they had covered two-thirds of the distance when trouble struck.
“Run!”
Changgu shouted, and the four of them started to speed up almost at the same time.
Li Wenjia felt a sound coming from the ice to his right: the sound of bubbles and water hitting the ice. He would never forget this sound. They had heard it clearly while sitting in the car, separated by a layer of armor.
They are about to attack, so we have to change the direction of our running. Which way should we go?
"Run left!"
Suixing also heard the sound. After briefly analyzing the source of the sound, he shouted at several people.
Various shoes stepped across a patch of ice, and the next moment, the ice shattered into pieces, and a gray-black, streamlined head burst out. Its momentum had not yet subsided, and the muscles in its tail were still exerting force in the water, and the huge kinetic energy sent it flying into the air for a while.
"Bang~"
Goodnight, in the process, struck the creature with his metal rod, causing it to deviate slightly. It crashed onto the ice, its slime causing it to slide. It twisted its body on the ice, struggling, trying to tear at its nonexistent prey.
"Turn right!"
The fish in the water didn't have time to react when they suddenly changed direction, so they continued to sprint for a distance in the original direction. This caused them to fall behind slightly, but they soon caught up.
The maneuver they employed was invented in previous wars. Back then, to avoid sniper fire, people would perform zigzag maneuvers. Of course, this evasive maneuver wasn't very effective, and only worked against inexperienced novice fighters. Furthermore, battlefield conditions were complex, and stumbling along the way would essentially spell death.
As they ran at full speed, the distance of several hundred meters vanished in the blink of an eye. Several people jumped and landed on the east bank. It felt good to be on solid ground, but the fish were still determined.
