Incompetent Me Transforms into a Beautiful Girl

Chapter 26 Second Trial (I)

Li Wenjia didn't observe the person beside him. Even if his curiosity got the better of him, he couldn't see the man's feelings hidden behind his visor. So he continued, "I heard this mission won't be easy. It seems the destination isn't even mentioned yet. You'll have to choose your own destination. Have you decided where to go?"

"There's nothing to choose!" He said helplessly. "After all the choices, there are only two states - either alive or dead. So I choose to live."

Upon hearing this, Li Wenjia glanced at him and then sighed heavily.

Just living?

If it's just about staying alive, it would be more troublesome.

Although Li Wenjia had never studied psychology, after more than a hundred days of struggling after the war, he understood one fact: those who truly wanted to live never chose to live; they only chose how to live.

"This is the first time I go out in this kind of weather." Li Wenjia changed the subject.

"Me too..." Lu Xianwu finally turned to Li Wenjia. He glanced at him, then stretched out his finger and tapped in the air a few times. "Aren't you afraid of the cold? And where's your protective suit?"

Li Wenjia noticed that this person seemed unfamiliar with the latest exoskeleton model, still using the old-fashioned AR operation method. He recalled that when they set out, there were indeed some volunteers who met his characteristics.

That's a second-time enlisted police officer.

The policeman's combat effectiveness is not the worst in the expedition team, but I don't know what he did in the past.

"Oh, I'm not afraid." He said seriously, "It would be a waste for me to use the protective suit."

Lu Xianwu's hand froze in mid-air. He hesitated for a moment, then finally put his hand back into his arms.

The sky gradually darkened, and the snowstorm intensified. The wind blew up the snow on the ground, making the bag in the back seat of the car rustle. The two of them huddled in their seats, trying to minimize their surface area.

It was still quite cold. Li Wenjia felt like he was in a freeze-dryer. None of his weapons worked. The icy wind seeped into every crevice, bringing with it a chilling howl that swept away any remaining warmth from the surface.

The other person must have turned on the electric auxiliary heating. He leaned quietly on the seat, and it seemed that he was planning to take a nap before setting off.

Li Wenjia didn't know how long he had been waiting. In order to prevent the low temperature from damaging the car, he had to reach out and step on the accelerator from time to time to keep the engine at a relatively ideal operating temperature.

"call out!"

“Whoosh, whoosh!”

In a daze, Li Wenjia seemed to hear other sounds in the storm.

At this time, the other side was forty kilometers away.

On the highway where Li Wenjia had come, there were more than a dozen field artillery pieces, already adjusted in the snow and wind. They were lined up on the road, and with the help of automatic loaders, they could fire once every eight to ten seconds on average.

They are all electrothermal chemical guns, which are considered outdated equipment in this era.

The rear couldn't be blamed for this; during the evacuation, most of the electromagnetic cannons were taken away, and the remaining ones were still damaged. In other words, the rear, despite the extremely difficult situation, was able to assemble several artillery battalions for the expedition, which was already quite impressive.

Of course, there weren't many of these precious treasures left. The shells themselves were difficult to reproduce within the expedition. So, aside from a small number of artillery pieces that were normal combat damage, the majority of the lost artillery pieces were converted into replacement parts.

The huge sound of artillery fire came one after another, and the air waves from the muzzles caused the surrounding wind and snow to stop briefly.

However, in reality, there are not many people at this artillery position, and the soldiers working here are mostly just doing the heavy and boring work of transporting ammunition.

Since they couldn't observe the impact point, the entire position's fully automatic artillery was remotely controlled by the command center. They deployed multiple seismometers around the perimeter of the drone strike zone, allowing them to roughly estimate the impact spread of each effective shot.

“Bang, bang, bang!”

Another round of interlaced shooting, the violent impact even caused the highway surface to begin to deform.

The specially modified 155mm caliber warheads, accelerated to Mach 8 by the high-temperature compressed air, spun out of the barrel. They passed through the clouds, briefly soaring in the calm upper troposphere. Then, in a slightly curved arc, they landed near the route the operation had to take, as planned by command.

“Boom boom boom!”

Most artillery shells exploded mid-air, but their explosions were less violent than one might imagine. Their original explosive charge had been replaced with a burst-type electromagnetic pulse device. These devices could release a wide range of high-energy electromagnetic pulses within tens of milliseconds, destroying nearby electronic devices.

The barrage lasted two hours, and the shockwaves blew away nearly all the snow on the road, revealing its original, bumpy landscape. Even the magnetic metal in the roadside structures was magnetized by the continuous electromagnetic pulses, turning them into giant magnets.

"Hey! Wake up! The artillery fire has stopped, it's time for us to set off!" In the darkness, Li Wenjia was particularly sensitive to sounds. He patted Lu Xianwu beside him, but the man seemed very tired and did not move.

After a while, a loud whistle suddenly sounded in the distance. The sound penetrated the darkness and fog, shocking the nerves of every sober soldier around.
