Welcome Home

The two bosses had indeed arranged excellent seats on the plane; it was business class, and Chen Xiaojing sat next to Zhang Renyin.

After all that commotion, it was nearly midnight in J country. The flight attendants dimmed the lights to their lowest setting, leaving only the reading lights next to the seats for illumination.

"Let me take a look at your eyes and see what's wrong."

Chen Xiaojing lowered her voice and coaxed him at a volume that only she and Zhang Renyin could hear: "It's okay, I'll just take a look. I'm not a medical professional."

Zhang Renyin shook his head, fumbled in the air for a while before finally grabbing her hand, and wrote: "It's okay, don't look."

Chen Xiaojing grabbed his hand and said, "Then tell me, was it caused by medication?"

...

He nodded.

Country J is truly ruthless. Knowing they couldn't change Zhang Renyin's stance, they used a drastic measure to blind him, preventing him from receiving outside information, and another to silence him, preventing him from transmitting his knowledge to the outside world. Unable to obtain Zhang Renyin's talent, they trapped it completely within his body.

Chen Xiaojing suddenly felt an urge to kick something, but she took a few deep breaths to suppress her anger: "It's okay, you should rest first. I'll stay by your side. We'll be back in China when you wake up."

It was just nightfall in China. Zhou Chenjin, following Chen Xiaojing's private message, did not choose to go all out. Her employees were finishing up, while she sat in her office staring blankly at the constantly changing stock trends on her computer screen.

I know what you're thinking.

Wu Hengyan came in from the door and handed her a document: "J country news, the person who illegally detained Professor Zhang was Lynn, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of J country, and they have already imposed a punishment. Manager Zhou, perhaps there's not much you can do, but I can help you get involved one more time."

"Understood. Thank you for your help, Mr. Wu. I'll treat you to dinner once things are settled."

“Okay.” Wu Hengyan readily agreed. “I’m looking forward to Manager Zhou’s dinner.” She left the documents on Zhou Chenjin’s desk. “I hope Miss Shangshui Luoying and Professor Zhang can attend the dinner together.”

Meanwhile, the plane had landed smoothly in N City. Chen Xiaojing woke up the sleeping Zhang Renyin and let him lead her out of the VIP channel. She immediately saw Fu Huanian waiting at the entrance.

"It's kind of you to make this special trip." Chen Xiaojing watched Wang Bo and Park leave. "We're here for a layover. Our next flight to City B is in two hours, so we can rest for a bit."

“I thought you would choose to stay here with him for a few days. N City is a nice place in the country,” Fu Huanian joked. “Sese told me that you really like this city.”

They entered the airport VIP lounge to wait for their connecting flight. After settling Zhang Renyin on a soft leather sofa, Chen Xiaojing pretended to get a drink and stood a little further away with Fu Huanian to talk about their next plans.

“His eyes and voice were treated with drugs by the J country, and he is now blind and mute. I don’t know the specifics, so I’ll have to trouble you to follow up,” Chen Xiaojing entrusted. “He can’t be left alone right now, so I probably can’t help you much.”

"It's my duty."

Fu Huanian glanced at Zhang Renyin from afar and said, "I will help you file an appeal. I won't let Professor Zhang suffer this injustice for nothing."

Thank you.

The two returned to his side, and Fu Huanian tentatively put his hand on Zhang Renyin's shoulder: "Professor Zhang, I am Fu Huanian. First of all, welcome home. What are your plans for returning to City B?"

Chen Xiaojing naturally took Zhang Renyin's arm and asked, "What other plans are there? Renyin will definitely be with me, what's the big deal?"

Zhang Renyin reached out and wrote in her palm: "You own a house?"

“Yeah, Jin and I bought it after you left. It’s a two-unit building with two apartments per floor, and we live across from each other.” Chen Xiaojing said with pride. “It’s great, I can’t cook, so it’s convenient for me to go to Jin’s house for a meal.”

Zhang Renyin's lips curled slightly, as if she was thinking of some interesting scene. Chen Xiaojing saw through it at a glance, but was too embarrassed to point it out directly in front of others: "But you have to go to the hospital for a check-up first, and you have to listen to the doctor if they don't allow you to leave the hospital."

He wrote in her palm, "Okay, I'll listen to you."

The announcement was made to board. Chen Xiaojing took Zhang Renyin's hand. She took a small step forward, her long dress billowing, while his steps were tentative yet unwavering.

Fu Huanian took out his phone and took a picture of Zhou Chenjin to let her know he was safe.

HW stopped, and Zhang Jiayao took over the work from Zhou Chenjin, granting her leave to pick up the person.

At B City Airport, Manager Zhou, who had almost triggered a financial crisis, stood on tiptoe at the arrival gate and looked into the distance: "Didn't you say you were getting off the plane? Xiaojing, why are you so slow?"

Just as she finished speaking, Chen Xiaojing appeared in her field of vision, holding Zhang Renyin's hand. The voice on the phone was tinged with laughter: "Whether you want to see me or your boyfriend, I know very well."

Fu Huanian followed behind them, waving to her from afar.

"Welcome back, Professor Zhang." Zhou Chenjin extended his hand and shook hands with Zhang Renyin in a friendly manner, as if to express HW's welcome and greetings for his safe return.

"I've booked a car. Let's go to the hospital for a check-up first. I'll go back to Xiaojing's house to help her pack." Zhou Chenjin led them into the car. "Xiaojing, we'll keep in touch on WeChat."

"Understood, Manager Zhou."

Zhou Chenjin took another taxi back to the apartment. Familiar with the way, he found the key under the flowerpot in front of Chen Xiaojing's door, unlocked the door, changed his shoes, and began to tidy up a bit—Chen Xiaojing hadn't been back for a long time.

"Cleaning" really just meant taking in the clothes she had hung out to dry before she left, folding them, sorting them, and putting them in the closet; tidying up the messy notes and drafts on her desk, making half of the desk empty; and opening the guest room window for ventilation.

"Ding-dong~ Your takeout has arrived."

The deliveryman called out at the door. Zhou Chenjin was wondering who would order takeout for Chen Xiaojing at this hour, but when she opened the door, she saw Fu Huanian.

"The examination is almost done. Professor Zhang is a bit malnourished and is receiving an IV drip at the hospital. Chen Xiaojing will accompany him back after the drip is finished." Fu Huanian was carrying a bag of sponge glue. "Neither Chen Xiaojing nor you considered that even if she is very careful, she is still human and there will be times when she can't take care of Professor Zhang. I bought some sponge glue to help her cover the sharp corners so that Professor Zhang won't bump into anything when he moves around."

"Wow, this is really great! Huanian, you've thought of everything." Zhou Chenjin took things out of the plastic bag one by one, and began to look around to see if there were any sharp corners that needed to be covered. Fu Huanian took some easy-to-clean glue, applied it to the inside of the sponge, and cut out several pieces of different sizes.

"Give it to me, I'll do it." Zhou Chenjin took the sponge from Fu Huanian and got up to clean up the sharp corners one by one. "You've been running around these past two days, thank you for your hard work."

"SeSe, Manager Zhou, you've worked hard too."

As Fu Huanian cleaned up the glue residue on the table, Zhou Chenjin chuckled, "Why do you call me Manager Zhou too? It sounds a bit strange."

“But this is your career, an inseparable part of you.” Fu Huanian cleaned up the living room table. “Alright, let’s go. I reckon they’ll be back around dinnertime. We’ll need to add two more pairs of chopsticks this time.”
