Chapter 122

Lady pulled her head away from the wall and roughly figured out what they were talking about.

There are roughly two key points. First, Benny's purpose in coming here is not safe and is not friendly to Lori.

The second point is her weakness. A fatal weakness.

It's not that it's something that needs to be kept secret, but not many people still know about it. However, anyone who has seen her in person will roughly understand, because she has very severe dark circles under her eyes. Even if you can't directly know that this is a fatal weakness, you can roughly guess that she has some limitations related to sleep.

In other words, if I can kill that guy now, firstly Lori will be safe, and secondly I will be able to continue to have a more advanced relationship with Ark.

However, this thought was dismissed the moment it appeared, at least for now.

That guy named Bai is still somewhere, aiming his bow at this spot. It's an unknown weapon, and just the sight of him fully drawn and aimed gives off an overwhelming sense of pressure.

Moreover, Ark's own combat strength has always been an unknown quantity; this guy has been so unsettling since his appearance.

Lady sat back down on the edge of the bed and looked at Lori, who had snuggled into the covers.

She was staring at the ceiling, not asleep.

This guy's presence is always fluctuating, because he doesn't talk much and hasn't done anything wrong. Occasionally, he'll show concern in his own way.

So it's clear that there's someone like that in the team, but their presence isn't particularly strong.

However, she also has a strong presence, because she is involved in almost everything.

Just like now, the saints came here in person to figure out this guy's abilities.

Lady hesitated for a moment, scratching her head, wondering what she could say and what she had to say, since she had never actually seen the child's abilities before.

There's no need to comfort her about not being afraid; this girl has always been living in fear. She's long since become accustomed to it.

There's no need to be wary of her; she's just a child, a very timid one, who often gives the impression that she might not actually be a demon.

"Is Carl alright?" Lady sat on the edge of the bed; she needed rest too. She heard her voice just as she closed her eyes.

"I heard it involves going to the church to create a fake identity. It doesn't seem that difficult." Lady thought about the guy and frowned.

It just so happens to be the type I dislike.

"Um, sister?" Lori turned to Lady and said, "Could you please not be angry with Karl?"

"Hmm? It all depends on whether that guy is willing to talk to me properly." Lady said, lying on the bed. "If he doesn't provoke me, I don't want to get into a conflict with a powerful priest."

The tone of the second half of the sentence is deliberately emphasized, and if one does not misunderstand, this is a sarcastic answer.

Lori didn't speak, but buried half of her head in the blanket.

Lady realized she had gone a bit too far, hesitated for a moment, then looked at her and said, "You've sweated a lot today, go take a shower first. Otherwise, you won't feel comfortable sleeping."

She quietly agreed, and Lady shrugged to indicate that she had done what she could to show concern.

There's someone else I need to deal with on my own, so I'm a little stressed right now.

"Alright, after tonight all your bodily indicators should have fully recovered. It's been quite an achievement; all those parts that were previously causing rejection have finally been successfully installed. What are your plans to do to celebrate this joyous occasion?"

"Don't do anything, just let me get a good night's sleep."

"However, your body has entered a resting state, but it cannot be completely shut down. If it were to shut down completely, it would be troublesome to restart it."

Lady opened her eyes and looked at the guy in the lab coat sitting in front of her.

That was Riley, the sister it killed.

In reality, her sister had originally attached an alchemical array containing her soul during the installation. The result is that now, once she enters standby mode, her subconscious mind spends time in a confined space, and this guy starts rambling.

Even Lady suspected that this guy had deliberately made her kill him.

After completing his original task, this guy kindly gave her a complete upgrade, including her current mental state. Originally, she had a cowardly personality and a combat state where she suppressed her emotions.

However, both of these have drawbacks. First of all, the former is really not like a living person should have, and this kind of personality is completely unsuitable for living in this environment.

Secondly, the latter's overly rational approach is not an ideal fighting mindset.

Because she directly switched two alchemical arrays used for contemplation, making her seem even more like a person than before. To be precise, a bad person. Because it's far too difficult for good people to survive in this world.

The other combat mode, which originally only used a simple method to block out emotions, has been replaced with a more suitable combat module.

As a result, her personality changed drastically.

The guy named Leili sat down in front of her, took out two cold drinks from somewhere, placed one next to her, drank one himself, and showed her a notebook.

It lists all her stats, and this guy has been studying Lady's stats all day since he came in.

The more I researched it, the more I realized that Lady was truly a miracle of creation. We don't know what materials or techniques were used. We can only roughly analyze the underlying principles.

This was slightly frustrating, but it was alright, since Rayleigh now had plenty of time to figure out what it was.

She took out a thin, pliable substance from somewhere and poked Lady's face. This soft, elastic substance was quite pleasant to poke at when she had nothing to do.

Lady tilted her head and looked at Raleigh's smile. She remained expressionless, offering no resistance to this harassing behavior.

"You're such a good girl," Lei Li said softly, then rubbed her head and snuggled her face against hers, saying, "Sister!"

Lady couldn't be bothered to even acknowledge it.

She also needed to rest a bit; it was normal to feel tired after running the alchemy array all day.

Rayleigh took a long chocolate bar out of her pocket, bit off one, and turned to Lady with a smile, as if she really wanted her to bite off the other end.

But Lady didn't react at all after a long time. She just sat there blankly, as if she had lost her soul.

At this time, in the tavern, Deedrie was drinking heartily, her arm around Spider-Man's as she laughed heartily.

They ran for a very long time, until it got dark and no one was chasing them anymore. Deedley found a relatively quiet place, removed her armor, cast a restraining spell, and then led the little spider to the tavern.

As for apologizing, Deedris said it as soon as she calmed down. Now, wanting to make amends, she naturally brought along some drinks. She didn't know of any other things that could make her happy; this entertainment brought her joy.

From the beginning until now, the little spider's face has been as red as a cooked crab.

The initial minor resentment had vanished from the very beginning, along with the shyness that followed the realization that they were both in human form. Now, with her arm around his shoulder, the smell of alcohol mixed with the girl's unique fragrance left him completely at a loss.

If I had to describe the feeling, it would be dizzy, like being drunk. But in reality, Spider-Man had only had one drink from the beginning until now.

Dedeline was genuinely happy. The Spider-Man incident had become a psychological trauma, a knot in her heart that she didn't know how long she would suffer if it wasn't untied.

But now that situation has suddenly been resolved. That guy is right next to me now, just like before, someone you want to bully. The somewhat gloomy aura he had when he was masked has turned into shyness as I get closer.

What an interesting guy.

As Deedrey pondered this, she downed another drink. Distracted, Spider-Man finally broke free from her embrace. He covered his face with his hands, looking like a girl who had been teased.

Dedely shrugged and finished her drink.

"What do you want to do next?" she asked softly, turning to look at him and saying, "Are you planning to go back? Or do you have a new plan?"

“I… I want to find a place where no one can see me,” Christon said softly. “I want to find a place to hide, a place where no one knows me.”

"At least now I know something." Dedeline leaned back slowly, closing her eyes slightly to allow her body to process the alcohol.

"So what do you want to do to me?" the little spider asked softly, head bowed. "Are you going to kill me?"

“Well, at least you have to knit me a sweater with your spider silk,” Deedrey said after thinking for a moment. “Is that alright?”

The little spider paused for a moment, then nodded.

“Okay.” He paused and said, “I need some time.”

“No rush. Once this is settled, the next step is the invitation. Are you interested in becoming a mercenary?” Deedri asked. “I need an assistant.”

"Mercenaries?"

“Literally, employers entrust us with tasks that are inconvenient for the church to handle, mostly dangerous monsters or escort missions,” Dedeline said. “This is my main job. I originally followed Ark because that guy had a very interesting team. Now? Heh, I don’t want to stay long.”

As she spoke, she looked at the little spider beside her and said, "You look really good. You'll have a great time in this line of work. You'll get identification, money, and the trust and respect of others."

Chris listened quietly, tilted his head, and asked:

"Is there a problem with what I have?"

“I can’t beat you. I don’t know what you’ve become, but it looks like I would have been dead if you hadn’t held back.” Dedeline picked up her glass and replied to him, “Drink this, and I’ll take you under my wing.”

Krisen looked at Deedri, then raised his glass and clinked it against hers.

Perhaps it really is as he said, becoming a mercenary isn't a bad way out for me. I'm not bad-skilled; at least I can handle calamity-level monsters. If I can really gain recognition in this way, as Deedris said, then...

That's wonderful.

Furthermore, Spider-Man really didn't know how to refuse such a beautiful girl's invitation. He just subconsciously felt that he couldn't say no.

After the little spider drank the wine in the glass in one gulp, the strong smell of alcohol made his head spin, and he suddenly felt a little dizzy.

"Ha!" Deedrey laughed heartily at the little spider's appearance. "That drink was very strong."

Chris was slumped on the table, looking a bit dazed. It seemed Spider-Man hadn't drunk this much alcohol before and was quite confused.

He was dizzy when Deedri picked him up, paid for the drinks, and then took him for a stroll down the street.

They need to find a hotel to rest in, but it's too late now, and it's really not easy to find a hotel that's still open.

In this city, these two are practically the same kind, aren't they? Not human, not demon, and certainly not a priest. Just ordinary monsters, creatures born from chaos. Two monsters, equally unsociable.

One of them is already familiar with how to get along with humans, while the other doesn't have many skills in doing so yet.

That glass of wine must have contained an unknown amount of alcohol; just one sip and Chris felt himself completely lose consciousness. He was taller than Deedri, so he had to bend over when being carried.

As luck would have it, it suddenly got cold. The outside environment changed abruptly, and it started snowing.

The little spider struggled to keep its eyes open, watching the snow falling from the sky, as it was dragged forward little by little. Then it completely lost consciousness.

They had indeed drunk too much; even Deedri was a bit tipsy. But thankfully, she hadn't reached the point of unconsciousness or blacking out.

Spider-Man doesn't know what happened after that, since he could only be carried, like a puppet being carried without any ability to resist.

For no apparent reason, he felt warm. It was strange; even though he was in the middle of heavy snow, he felt strangely enveloped in warmth. The wonderful fragrance made him sleep peacefully.

Perhaps it was due to the alcohol, but he felt his whole body heating up. A warmth emanating from within, but with a strangely soft touch.

What happened?

When he forced himself to open his eyes, he only felt his face burning from the sunlight.

But he couldn't move because he felt like he was holding something in his arms.

The little spider stared blankly at the thing he was holding in his arms, feeling as if he were falling into an abyss due to a hangover.
