Chapter 214 Time Flies (2)

Chapter 214

“It’s not pretty, is it? For a girl who cares about her appearance, this is something I’d want to gouge out.” She said casually, “But I’ve done almost everything thanks to this eye. As long as I have it and don’t cause trouble, I can live happily. At least that’s how it is for me.”

"So what do you mean by seeing the future?"

"Literally, I can see other people's futures, it's very simple." She smiled. "Moreover, given that the current timeline is blocked by the Guardian alone, time is a one-way street. I don't know if there would be more options if it weren't blocked. But according to current theory, time that has already passed is locked. And among countless futures, I can see the line that is currently moving forward. What it can see is farther than what I can see, not in a physical sense, but in the dimension of time. I can see the outcome of everything."

“I don’t understand,” Dedeline said after a moment’s hesitation.

"The reason I can defend against your attacks is the same. You may think that many of your attack methods are already strange enough. But to me, it's just a simple repetition." She said softly, very slowly: "With this ability, I bet there's no way I can lose."

"Then why are you telling me all this?" Dedeline hesitated for a moment before saying, "You haven't told me anything for so long, why are you saying it today?"

“Because I want to change this outcome, that’s all,” Linas said, resting her head on her hand. “This ability also has limitations for me. The further back I look, the longer it takes me to recover. The ratio is that for every month I see, it needs one minute to rest. I just looked at what will happen to you three years from now, which means I need at least half an hour before I can use it to see the future. Based on this ratio, if I just want to know what will happen a few minutes from now, there will basically be no pause.”

"This ability sounds invincible. As expected, demons are something that we monsters can't even dream of reaching." Dedeline smiled helplessly.

“But I have never truly reached the future I see,” she said softly. “What I see is only the result of what should have happened in the instant I used it. And whenever I do something different from what I should have done, the future is altered. Time is frozen, it’s a one-way street, and therefore the future I see is almost always different.”

As she said this, she bit her lip and lowered her head.

“I have seen your death four times in a row.” Her voice trailed off. “When I showed you this eye, I saw your future again…you died again.”

"Three years later?"

“No, three years later was just a time I chose to check, but all I could see was pitch black. That means you didn’t have three years later; you would have died by then.” She said softly, “As for when you died within those three years, I’m not sure.”

"Are you trying to save me? How gentle, so unlike your usual self." Deedri smiled. "And now? Will I still die?"

“I’ll check again in half an hour. In the meantime, I need to think about how to persuade you.” She stood up, glanced at Deedri, and said, “You don’t have to be responsible for anyone’s death, you don’t have to bear any responsibility. We are born only for ourselves. This world may not be big, but it’s big enough. You have plenty of things to do.”

“Thank you.” Dedeline hesitated for a moment, then looked at her and said, “But then you have no idea what your future will be like? Even if you see what you will do in the future, will you still do it?”

"There was a time when I acted strictly according to what I saw, everything I did was known in advance. In that case, I did achieve the results I foresaw one after another." She said softly, "But just one moment of weakness, and then my future changed again. And then, no matter how I adjusted, I couldn't see a so-called good ending. I can't control what happens in the future at will. As you can see, I'm just a monster, not even a demon spirit. Not even a calamity. There are countless things I can change, but the things I can't influence are as numerous as grains of sand."

Finally, she shrugged: "And honestly, aside from using it to cheat in battle, I haven't seen what happens to me in a very long time. When you're alive, you have to leave some room for surprises."

"Leave surprises in life? Really? Do you really think there are any good surprises in this world?" Dedelie smiled helplessly.

“There’s no need to categorize everything as good or bad. The experiences we have are the joys of living. They’re experiences that can only be had by living.” She hesitated for a moment, then sighed.

"What's wrong?"

“I need to go outside for a bit.” She hesitated for a moment before saying, “But to be honest, my future vision is still cooling down. Without this ability, I won’t be able to fight as easily.”

Dedeline didn't say anything, just waited for her to finish speaking. Finally, she smiled helplessly and said, "Can you do me a favor? I know you're a mercenary. If you need anything, I can pay you."

"I've been eating and drinking here for ages." Dedely felt that no matter how thick-skinned she was, she couldn't accept any payment.

“I am a hermit, you are a mercenary. It is my conscience to help outsiders, but if you help others without charging a fee, you are desecrating your duty.” She pointed to the things hanging in the hall: “A bow and a greatsword, you choose one.”

The air fell silent again. Deedri looked intently at the woman standing there, who was now wearing a beautiful brown dress. The wind blew in from outside, and she looked like someone from a story.

"Is this a test for me, or is it because this thing is really troublesome and you want to pass it on?" Dedeline raised an eyebrow and asked, "I don't understand why you're doing this."

“What you have can’t kill the Judgment,” Lina said softly. “It’s tired. If you’re leaving to seek revenge, leave that sword to me.”

Dedeline paused, staring at the Dragon Fang Sword leaning against the corner of the wall.

“I can see the future, and I can see the past. I can roughly understand what special meaning that thing has for you, right?” she asked casually. “I’m not really sure, I just feel like you’ve used it for a very, very long time. There are quite a few repairs and holes on it. You clearly have a better weapon, why don’t you find a place to sell it?”

“This sword?” Dedeline said softly. “Yes, it’s been with me for a while.”

Long, long ago, after I became a mercenary and killed that dragon, it seems that only this sword has remained.

It was a very interesting story, which was even adapted into a novel by poets. It was a tale of humans and monsters slaying a dragon.

It was a past she was proud of and remembered; she once thought it was the highlight of her life.

Who knew that my future would be filled with such depressing things?

“If you’re reluctant, that’s fine, but I really need help right now. Since that weapon is so important, don’t use it.” Linas walked over and personally took down the two weapons. She handed the greatsword to the swordsmith: “I had a selfish thought. I think it’s better for a girl to keep herself clean. So please leave the bow with me.”

"This makes me feel like you're trying to make me share some of the curse," Dedeline said helplessly, gripping the hilt of her greatsword.

In an instant, scorching heat and steam erupted from her entire body. The once tidy house was instantly destroyed by the raging firewood.

Even the rooftops flew up.

......

“Mr. Karl, is that thing something we can handle?” Denos’s voice trembled slightly. “I don’t even want to think about it anymore. Can we even leave here alive?”

Carl didn't know how to answer; he just watched the changes unfold before him.

Specifically, they are in the sky now.

"Are you two joking around?" Nina roared from behind, then flipped over and stepped under the carriage.

They are now high in the sky.

A massive magic circle unfolded in the sky, and black lightning gathered within it.

A deafening roar erupted as unimaginable energy gathered in her hands.

Wherever the black lightning touched, it instantly collapsed.

"Cool!" Denos shouted, tossing three red crystals out of his pocket.

The small stone paused in mid-air for a moment, and then accelerated to the speed of sound, the resulting impact offsetting the destructive force of the black lightning.

Nina rolled onto the carriage, panting heavily. She then took out a blue pill from her pocket, put it in her mouth, and sat cross-legged to rest.

Three explosions rang out from below in succession.

"Will this attack even work?" Nina yelled. "You should at least give it some real power!"

"I've done my best. This is all I can do." Denos was also somewhat resigned, his whole body drenched in cold sweat.

The air currents condensed into an air shield, with golden light floating on it.

The next moment, a black shockwave pressed down directly on it.

A shockwave with absolutely no distinguishing features; simply an outward projection of magic. An attack with absolutely no cost-effectiveness.

However, once the scale reaches this level, even such a completely unintentional attack is almost devastating.

Karl coughed up blood and buried his head in his hands.

Waves of dizziness washed over him, and a weak gray tinged his eyes.

Let me briefly explain what just happened.

Just half a day ago, their carriage entered a strange place.

It's a plain, yet it doesn't feel like a plain. There seem to be undulations in the distance, but all that can be seen is flatness.

Black, bare trunks of large trees are scattered across this strange plain.

Besides this, there is nothing.

Carl had never been to such a quiet place before. He noticed something unusual, but couldn't quite put his finger on it.

He had been to Lingsen but was persuaded to turn back, and he had traveled the road from here to Lingsen twice.

Although the situation in this chaotic region changes every day, we can't forget that this place is still hell after a couple of days of peace.

But this eerie feeling sent chills down my spine.

The view was expansive, with only a few scattered black trees in sight.

Not to mention monsters, there aren't even any ordinary monsters, let alone monsters of the calamity level or higher.

It was as if the entire black plain had been swept away by a great fire that had consumed the world.

The temperature was surprisingly normal.

But his intuition told him that the situation was extremely dangerous.

Therefore, when all the trees opened their eyes, it was a surprise akin to a sudden cardiac arrest.

Have you ever seen a monster the size of a plain?

If you've never seen this before, you've certainly learned something new.

Denos controlled the airflow, making the carriage float in the air, occasionally glancing down at what lay below.

It was a group of monsters with absolutely no distinguishing features, pure magical energy gathered there.

It's unimaginable how difficult it would be to find and destroy the magic core inside.

"Karl? Karl, are you alright?" he shouted.

"Not bad." Karl slowly opened his somewhat cloudy eyes.

"Have we placed too many expectations on you?" Denos felt tears welling up in his eyes. "Don't say that, you are a saint."

“Yes, yes, I am a saint,” Karl said, then sat up again, the huge book opened in front of him, and the sky was suddenly cleared of ashes.

Crosses about the size of a palm, and thousands of similar-sized objects filled the entire sky.

Then it fell like rain, each one two meters in size when it hit the ground, and the magic dissipated the moment it touched the ground.

The magical body was instantly pierced with countless large craters, simultaneously disintegrating another wave of magical impact.

A golden light shone in his eyes, and his earlier dejection vanished in an instant.

He raised his hand again, and a golden spear appeared in his grasp, which he tossed to Denos. Denos caught it and threw it downwards.

More than a hundred tendrils split apart in mid-air, and those twisted and conjured tentacles were instantly destroyed.

"Truly a saint!" Denos gasped for breath, then almost collapsed to the ground.

"Perhaps," Karl said softly, then closed his eyes again.

"Hey, hey, hey, are you not dead?" Denos asked, looking at him with some concern.

"Still alive, but can only last one more round." When he opened his eyes again, although the golden pupils were still there, he was only slightly weaker.

Then, he hesitated for a moment and said softly, "Did I tell you? I know this guy."

“It’s no use knowing him; this guy wants to kill us now.” Nina frowned and looked at Karl, saying, “Don’t get emotional here; we’ll all die here.”
