Chapter Twenty-Six

"Um, I'm a little afraid of heights."

"But it's safer here. If you're scared, just close your eyes."

"You won't take this opportunity to leave, will you?"

"Don't worry, even if I die, you will live a good life."

The little spider offered this comforting remark, while glancing worriedly at the church below.

A large group of monsters gathered below, but thankfully none of them looked up.

The church is a domed church, but now the top of this sacred church is covered with cobwebs.

Chrison wove this spider web in a short time. The spider silk he conjured with magic was as tough as metal.

Lori, who was perched on it, was huddled in a small corner, shivering.

The monster below looks really tough to deal with; it's something made entirely of mud and stone, and it looks like a lizard, or perhaps some other four-legged crawling animal.

Therefore, the little spider used this method to protect the child.

Unless absolutely necessary, the little spider didn't want to kill these monsters. They were all demons, though on opposing sides for various reasons. But killing one's own kind always felt painful.

Chrison felt the same way. If he and the child hid for a while, someone might come to help deal with the monster.

Since this guy wasn't lucky enough to gain the ability to think, he might as well enjoy his remaining life to the fullest before the night ends.

As Yake once said, if one can regard being alive as good fortune, then no matter what unpleasant things happen, one should not react too badly.

This guy was only recently spawned and is about to be eliminated; he doesn't even deserve this most basic kind of pleasure.

Isn't this world cruel? It gives the lucky almost everything, while the unlucky don't even have life.

The little spider pondered on and off, then suddenly remembered something, took a small wooden box from a coiled spider silk nearby, and handed it to Lori.

"You haven't eaten anything all day, have you?" the little spider asked. "You should eat something for now."

It's a very normal bento box, made with rice and some simple vegetables.

"Where did you get this from?" Lori asked hesitantly as she took the item.

She hadn't noticed where there was anywhere to store things nearby.

“I can do a few tricks with space.” Chrison stretched out a spider web in front of Lady and then tore it in half.

It wasn't just the spiderweb that was torn open, but also the space itself. Although it wasn't as easily torn as the previous creature, the opening created could indeed hold some things.

While a few of these small spaces may not be of much use, a large number of them are more than enough to store daily necessities.

After Lori roughly understood, she nodded and, without being polite, began to eat the food with a spoon.

She was starving; she hadn't eaten anything for the entire day she had been hiding. She ate in a hurry and even choked a few times.

Suddenly, she stopped and looked at the little spider, asking.

"You gave me the food, what are you going to eat?"

"Me? Don't worry, I don't need to eat." The little spider waved its hand: "For monsters, food is not a necessity. When they are hungry, they can absorb magic to replenish their strength."

“But this is what you’re supposed to eat.” Lori scratched her head, looking at the boxed lunch in her hand. After thinking for a moment, she scooped up a spoonful and showed it to Chrisson.

“Well then, how about this, we’ll eat this box, and I’ll feed you.” Lori smiled as she looked at the bewildered Chrison.

Chris looked at the spoon, then at her seemingly sunny smile.

It disappeared almost instantly, and he hid on it, drawn by the spider web.

"I'm not hungry, you eat it yourself."

After uttering that sentence, he was drawn up there, covering his face with his hands and shrinking into a ball.

Lori didn't understand, tilting her head to look at the little spider curled up in a ball. Not knowing the reason, she could only shrug.

The little spider felt so embarrassed he was practically burning up; it was a spoon that the girl had just used.

No, no, no, that's not the point. The point is, isn't she really worried about getting dirty?

He clearly remembered once touching someone's clothes, and the person immediately threw the clothes away right in front of him. Without even waiting for Chrison to apologize, the person yelled and ran off.

This is what should be happening, not what's happening now. He tried to see if he was dreaming by hurting himself, but it only confirmed that it was real.

So the little spider happily curled up into a ball and rolled around, and anyone could tell it was very happy.

"Hey, you look really silly like that." Suddenly, he heard the nameless voice. It looked up at the boy hanging upside down behind it.

"Really? Maybe, I'm not exactly smart to begin with." Spider-Man turned to look at him, hesitated for a moment, and said, "But thank you so much. If it weren't for you, she would be dead by now."

"Heh, don't be so insecure about that child. You should be glad that thing didn't really hurt her."

"What's the meaning?"

"Don't delve into it; you don't want to know the outcome. But what are you planning to do now? Continue watching that girl roll around in embarrassment?" Nameless lay on its web, looking at the little spider, and said with a smile, "I never imagined there were monsters like you in the world. This is truly an eye-opener."

“I promised to protect her, so I should protect her now.” The little spider looked up at the nameless man, hesitated for a moment, and asked, “What’s wrong?”

"It's nothing, it's good for you to stall for time here. What I mean is, are you planning to tell others about me?"

"I plan to tell Ark, and also Denos."

"So frank? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you to silence you?"

"If you wanted to, you would have done it already. Dead men tell no tales."

"Ha, you really are an interesting monster. So, what do you plan to do to me?"

"I don't know, you should ask Ark. I'm not responsible for making the next plans." Spider-Man looked at Nameless and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Are you planning to have someone arrest me?" the boy asked Spider-Man with a smile. "There are three priests in the city now, so I shouldn't come out to fight these enemies."

"I don't plan to."

Wuming was stunned for a moment, realizing that this guy hadn't thought it through at all.

It seems that to this guy, a demon is just a rabbit on the roadside. He saw such a rabbit, then squatted down and started chatting with it.

Then, when they learned that they could get a lot of money by selling the rabbit.

He nodded, patted the rabbit's head, and prepared to leave. Even though it would have been easy for him to take the rabbit away, he didn't intend to do so.

Wuming frowned, feeling ignored.

But just as he was about to say something, the guy started talking to himself.

"Speaking of which, you must have been in that space for a long time, right?" Suddenly, Spider-Man remembered a question: "Do you know Ark?"

Why do you think I'm very old?

“Because demons have infinite lifespans, it seems your awakened abilities are quite advanced.” The little spider looked at the nameless man seriously: “It seems to be the ability of the demon of space and time. Although I don’t know what the ability given to you is, I can guess that it has nothing to do with time.”

"Heh, why?" Wuming frowned, suddenly feeling a sense of unease.

This spider seems to know a lot of things.

Taking this opportunity, it recalled the guy named Yak.

It was quite certain it had never heard of the name before, yet it felt strangely familiar.

It had originally intended to tease the spider, but now, seeing the knowledge it displayed, it felt a chill run down its spine.

Since the church began its worldwide hunt for the demons, all information about them has been rapidly disappearing.

Logically speaking, most people nowadays only have a general understanding of what a demon is, and that's about it.

But this guy seems to know more than just what a demon is; he can even judge what kind of privileges he has obtained based on the abilities he displays.

This isn't something a spider should know. It must come from that guy named Ark, right? That guy knows a lot about demons, but why is that? There shouldn't be anyone who knows about this group right now.

Wuming felt a headache coming on and couldn't immediately grasp the situation.

“Because the timeline is now fixed, the seal was completed by the guardians of the Central Church.” The little spider casually revealed secrets that shouldn’t be shared, perhaps never knowing that these things were meant to be kept hidden: “Even if you really did obtain time-related abilities, you shouldn’t be able to use them now.”

The air suddenly fell silent. The guy stood with his arms crossed, staring at the little spider with a terrifying expression.

"What's wrong?" Spider-Man asked, a little frightened, realizing the hostility emanating from the Russian guy.

How did you know?

“Ark told me.”

"How did he know?"

“I don’t know, I don’t know where that guy came from. To this day, I don’t know anyone who knows anything about him, and even if they do know a little, it’s only a general outline of the past.” Spider-Man scratched his head and said, “I’m very grateful to him for saving me, but even so, he has never told anyone about his origins. Even if he does talk about his origins, it’s just about his past. But he has far more to his name than what he did before. His lifespan seems to be frighteningly long.”

These things shouldn't be explained to someone whose identity is unknown, but Spider-Man has an inexplicable trust in Ark.

He can handle everything. I don't know why, but as long as he's around, I feel safe, whether I'm in a sea of fire or on an execution ground. As long as he's there, I just need to believe that everything will be alright.

He always finds a way to handle these things.

Past experiences led Spider-Man to develop unconditional trust in Ark, while also prompting him to reflect more and more on Ark's past.

He appeared out of thin air, one day, somewhere in this world. A man in a horse-drawn carriage, carrying goods from who-knows-where, landed in a city, chatting with the customers who came to buy his goods, discussing the best parts of the fish.

And that's how he appeared.

Where did he come from? What did he experience? How many places has he been to? How much does he understand about the origin of this world?

No one knows. He uses a mask to conceal himself, and even if the mask is removed, only his expressionless face can be seen. Perhaps even the subtle expressions on his face are just a facade; no one knows what this guy is really thinking.

“I already thought the fact that this city could have three high-ranking clergy at the same time was a headache.” Nameless looked at Little Spider, waved his hand as if to say goodbye: “Thank you for telling me about a guy in this city that I need to be careful of.”

Do you know him?

"I don't know, but if you can get information about my abilities just by chatting with him, then it's very likely that he knows me better than I do. After all, I still don't understand what I am, I only know that I've been chosen by some great being."

"You don't know either?"

“I don’t know, no one told me any of this. If I hadn’t interrogated a few people, I wouldn’t even have known I would be labeled a demon.” Nameless looked at the monster: “It’s strange, you look so scary, but I feel safe with you.”

"Maybe I'm just weak."

"Are you kidding me? A weak monster can't store its lunch by tearing open space." It looked at the little spider, frowned, and said, "Are you a demon spirit?"

"Maybe. Ark said he picked me up from a monster's den. I don't remember much before that, after all, you know, monsters' lives are pretty monotonous, there's nothing worth remembering." The little spider hesitated for a moment, propping its head up, and said, "But speaking of which, are there any demons related to spiders? I don't remember any demon creating such a group."

“I find it strange too. I don’t remember any demon having such a cowardly descendant as you.”

"Haha, you're right. Actually, I really wish I were a demon spirit, so I could have a kind of race. Maybe I could find a lot of things similar to me, and I'd be very happy then." The little spider waved at the nameless creature: "Would you be a threat to Ark?"

"Judging from your tone, you're not worried."

"I'm worried, but for some reason, the thought that he might be the one attacked makes me not feel worried at all."

"Your answer makes me think I should think twice before deciding on my actions, but since we had a pleasant conversation, I promise that as long as you don't harm me, I won't do anything to you. At least not."
