Ji Wan thought Zhou Zechuan was a light in her life. She willingly hid her brilliance and entered into a secret marriage with him for two years, content to be his kept woman. However, she didn'...
Chapter 307 Going to the Hospital
"Who is this?"
"Chi Lin, Mom, he is my colleague." Ji Wan introduced.
"So you're Wanwan's colleague. Welcome." Hua Ying enthusiastically took Chi Lin's hand and led them to sit at the table. "You've come at the perfect time. I just made some tea."
Chi Lin looked at the elegant lady in front of him and found it hard to imagine that she had ever suffered a mental breakdown.
"Aunt Hua, you look so good." Chi Lin said sincerely.
Hua Ying smiled and nodded, then suddenly lowered her voice and said mysteriously, "Wait a minute, I'll get you something delicious."
After saying that, she stood up and walked to the bed, and took out a small package from under the mattress, which contained a few snacks and some fruits.
"I brought this secretly back from the cafeteria. It tastes delicious." Hua Ying carefully placed the food on the table with a childlike pride on her face.
Chi Lin was stunned and looked at Ji Wan, not knowing how to react.
Ji Wan smiled slightly and looked at his mother tenderly, "Thank you, Mom. Let's eat together."
Chi Lin watched Hua Ying carefully arrange the "stolen" food, a trace of pity flashed in his eyes, but he quickly adjusted his expression and took the snacks handed to him by Hua Ying with a smile.
"Auntie Hua, this snack is so delicious." Chi Lin took a bite and praised sincerely.
Hua Ying smiled contentedly, "Wanwan has loved this since she was little. Every time I make it, she'll grab a few pieces." She turned to Ji Wan, her eyes full of love, "Isn't that right, Wanwan?"
Ji Wan nodded and said softly, "Yes, Mom."
"Why did you think of coming to see me today?" Hua Ying poured tea for the two of them with elegant and calm movements.
"Mom, I missed you, so I came to see you." Ji Wan held his mother's hand, his eyes full of tenderness.
Hua Ying patted her daughter's hand and said, "I feel relieved to have such a good colleague by your side."
After she finished speaking, she took a breath, then looked at Chi Lin and said again: "The young man looks very steady."
Chi Lin smiled slightly and said, "Aunt Hua, you are too kind."
Hua Ying had a kind smile on her face, and the three of them chatted for a while.
During this period, Hua Ying was distracted from time to time and said some irrelevant things, but Chi Lin was very patient and always managed to pick up the conversation, which made Hua Ying feel happy.
The nurse came in and reminded her that it was time to take the medicine. Hua Ying took the pills obediently and blinked at Ji Wan like an obedient child.
"I'll get some water." Ji Wan stood up with the cup of water and left the room.
After Ji Wan left, Hua Ying suddenly approached Chi Lin and asked mysteriously, "Young man, what is your relationship with my daughter?"
Chi Lin was stunned for a moment, then said, "We are colleagues, Aunt Hua."
"Oh?" A sly glint flashed in Hua Ying's eyes. "I don't think you are ordinary colleagues."
Chi Lin did not refute, but just smiled slightly.
Hua Ying sighed, her expression suddenly becoming sad. "My daughter is already this old, and she still has no one to accompany her. You know, I may not have much time left..."
Her voice dropped. "My greatest wish in life is to hug my grandson before I die."
Chi Lin's expression changed slightly, and he didn't know how to respond.
Hua Ying continued, "My daughter looks strong on the outside, but she's actually very fragile on the inside. If I'm gone, who will take care of her?"
The man's eyes grew darker.
Seeing this, Hua Ying held Chi Lin's hand and said, "You look like a reliable young man, can you?"
"Mom, drink some water." Ji Wan's voice interrupted her.
At this time, Ji Wan was standing at the door with a glass of water in his hand.
Hua Ying quickly let go of Chi Lin's hand, took the cup of water, and took the medicine obediently.
"What are you talking about?" Ji Wan looked at the two of them puzzled.
"Nothing, I'm just asking about Xiao Chi's job." Hua Ying said with a smile, "Wanwan, I'll be able to go out when mom recovers. When you have a child, I'll help you take care of it."
Ji Wan's smile froze on her face, and a trace of pain flashed in her eyes, but she quickly adjusted her mood and said softly, "Okay, Mom, I will try my best."
Hua Ying nodded with satisfaction and continued to chatter about future plans, completely immersed in her own fantasy.
Ji Wan sat aside, listening quietly, the sadness in her eyes growing deeper and deeper. Chi Lin noticed her strangeness and handed her a tissue.
Ji Wan shook his head slightly to indicate that he was fine, but his fingers were tightly clenched on the corner of his clothes, so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
Half an hour later, the nurse came to remind Hua Ying that it was time for lunch.
Seeing this, Ji Wan stood up and said, "Mom, Chi Lin and I are leaving first. We'll come see you next time."
Hua Ying nodded, and suddenly remembered something, "Oh, right, you should go see your grandma. She was talking about you a few days ago."
Ji Wan was stunned, "Grandma?"
"Yes, it's in the old house in the east of the city. I went to see her yesterday." Hua Ying said as a matter of course.
Ji Wan and Chi Lin looked at each other and saw helplessness in each other's eyes.
Ji Wan's grandmother passed away ten years ago, but Hua Ying's memory seems to remain in the past.
"Okay, let's go see grandma." Ji Wan agreed softly.
After leaving the sanatorium, Ji Wan walked ahead without saying a word, and Chi Lin followed behind, neither of them speaking.
It wasn't until they got in the car that Chi Lin broke the silence, "Are you okay?"
Ji Wan took a deep breath, "Yeah, I'm used to it." She looked out the window, "Thank you for coming with me today, my mother."
"Aunt Hua is very good, but her memory is a little confused." Chi Lin's voice was surprisingly gentle. "She loves you very much."
Ji Wan nodded, her eyes slightly red, "I know."
"Where is your grandmother's house?" Chi Lin suddenly asked.
Ji Wan looked at him in surprise, "You want to go? That place has been empty for a long time. My grandmother left ten years ago."
"I know, but since your mother mentioned it, let's go and take a look." Chi Lin said calmly, "Maybe it will help her condition."
Ji Wan hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded, "Okay, No. 12, Lane 6, East City."
Chi Lin turned the car around and drove towards the old city in the east.
They arrived at a somewhat dilapidated, old-fashioned courtyard. The yard was overgrown with weeds, but the house was still intact, though it was obvious that no one had lived there for a long time.
"Is this your grandmother's home?" Chi Lin asked.
Ji Wan nodded and said, "I used to come here often when I was a child." She took out the key from her bag and pushed open the gate.
"You still kept the key." Chi Lin was a little surprised.
Ji Wan whispered, "This is the only memory I have left of my mother and me."
They walked into the house. The furniture was covered with dust sheets and the air was filled with a faint musty smell.
Ji Wan opened the curtains, and the sunlight poured in through the window, dispelling some of the chill.
"I would come here every New Year when I was a kid." Ji Wan said softly, brushing the dust off the table with his fingers.
Chi Lin looked around and his eyes stopped on a family photo on the wall.
In the photo, young Hua Ying is standing next to an elderly couple, holding a baby in her arms with a bright smile.
"Is that you?" Chi Lin pointed at the baby in the photo.
