Chapter 252 Tracking
Angel sat next to the two nobles, observing the party with a cold eye.
Like her, Audrey watched with interest as participants submitted trading applications, found other traders, or received no response.
Grelint seemed to have not recovered from the shock yet, and huddled like a quail, completely different from his usual cheerful and talkative demeanor in the aristocratic salons.
"What I need is the horn of an adult Pegasus and the venom crystals of a crown jellyfish..."
He seemed to be proposing a deal, but his voice was so quiet that only the two people next to him could hear it.
Angel was stunned for a moment before she confirmed that the Viscount wanted her to help submit the application.
After the last transaction was completed, she loudly called out the two main ingredients of the "Pharmacist" potion. This might reveal the existence of the formula, but this was only a Sequence 9 and was not worth keeping secret. Moreover, a potion also had many other auxiliary ingredients. Knowing only the main ingredients was useless unless someone was willing to take the risk of losing control and swallowing the extraordinary ingredients directly.
Several eyes glanced at Angel, then quickly moved away without lingering. Then, someone in the other corner responded:
"I have the venom crystals of the crown jellyfish, 240 pounds."
"no problem!"
This offer was somewhat higher than the average price of Sequence 9 potion materials. Before Angel even had the chance to bargain, Grellint subconsciously agreed. Then she remembered that Angel was the one who was making the transaction on her behalf, and she looked at her again.
The gathering and trading model here is similar to the "Eye of Wisdom" gathering. Those who want to buy or sell items can bid in turn. If someone wants to make contact, they can shout out directly and the transaction will be conducted in front of the floating male corpse.
Angel took the stack of banknotes handed over by the Viscount, walked forward and exchanged it for a piece of emerald green diamond-shaped crystal. There seemed to be a gray-white object constantly swimming inside it. When Angel returned to his seat with it in his bare hands, a faint bitter taste appeared in his mouth.
"Thank you, Miss Irene."
Grelint took the venom crystal, examined it in his hand, and suddenly asked:
"How would I know it, well, I mean, if the item is fake, or someone traded the wrong formula, how would I find the seller?"
"The party organizer seems to have some method of identifying the authenticity of items, so transactions must be conducted in front of him. Once, someone was selling a fake formula, and he caught them on the spot. He commanded the skeletons nearby to capture the seller, and later became a corpse in a glass coffin..."
Audrey lowered her head and whispered. Then, noticing Grelint's face growing paler, she added:
"Of course, I heard it from Miss Xiu. Maybe there's some exaggeration, but she didn't lie about the organizer being able to distinguish the real from the fake."
The party continued, and after several deals were made or broken, Audrey finally spoke:
"I need the potion recipe for 'The Audience'."
Just like the previous failed transactions, the classroom was silent. She waited for half a minute and sighed exaggeratedly.
But Angel, who was sitting next to her, could feel several members turning their eyes to Audrey, as if secretly sizing her up.
"Unlike the curious gazes I received when I was purchasing potion ingredients just now, these people looked at her with scrutiny and inquiry. Is it because of the special nature of the 'audience' potion that the attendees are being more cautious? Perhaps the original seller is among them, but didn't respond immediately, wanting to continue observing..."
Angel analyzed silently and felt that Miss Justice might have had a premonition and brought him along as insurance.
The party was drawing to a close, and Angel bought another 20 grams of star crystals. He felt that the prices here were higher than those at the other two Beyonder gatherings, but perhaps it was because the tense situation in Backlund had just ended, and many materials were in short supply.
After the organizer announced the end of the party, the participants left the classroom one by one through several doors. Angel then discovered that there was a double door on each of the four walls of the classroom, perhaps connecting to different locker rooms and corridors, so that everyone could leave in batches and reduce the possibility of being followed.
The three of them left along the same route, took off their white coats and hung them in the locker room, and threw their masks into the trash can.
"That's great! I didn't expect to buy one of the main ingredients on my first visit here. Maybe I can become a 'Pharmacist' next week."
It was not until they were far away from the strange and frightening classroom that Grellint could no longer suppress his excitement and spoke in a cheerful tone.
"It's a pity that I still haven't found an 'audience'. Could it be that the seller is no longer attending the party here?"
Audrey seemed a little lost.
"I don't think you need to stick to this path. Don't we have ready-made 'Pharmacist' formulas now? Or becoming a 'Fortune Teller' like Miss Irene would also be a good idea."
After returning to the carriage, the Viscount persuaded his friend.
"I want to try again. If I still don't find what I want, I'll consider your suggestion."
Audrey replied with a forced smile.
The carriage fell silent for a moment. Angel saw that the time was right, and with a hint of longing and hesitation, he quietly asked Grellant:
"Your Excellency, the Mr. Hibbert Hall I met at Audrey's house this afternoon, is he the one I saw in the newspaper?"
Before Grellint could answer, Audrey, who was sitting next to her, twitched her ears and came closer.
"Hibbert has recently become the chief secretary of the Air Pollution Investigation Committee. You may have seen relevant reports in the newspapers." The Viscount glanced at Audrey before answering, "He's been busy forming a think tank recently. He will soon provide the government with the committee's investigation report on Backlund and the entire kingdom's pollution situation. Perhaps it won't be long before you see the introduction of relevant legislation and see Backlund's air quality improve."
"Really? That's great! Ever since I came to Backlund, I've been missing the environment of Tingen. Although it's more prosperous here, there's always... um..."
Angel exclaimed in a somewhat exaggerated tone.
"According to the Backlund Daily, there are 75 days of severe smog each year, over 100 days of moderate smog, and less than half of the days are sunny."
Audrey added.
"I remember now, that's exactly what they said. I hope this atmospheric committee can reduce the number of smoggy days..."
"It's the 'Air Pollution Inquiry Committee,'" Grellant corrected with a smile. "That's why Hibbert and I joined the committee. He and his father, Lord Hall, are major shareholders in the Constance Coal and Steel Corporation, but they've long been prepared to reduce pollution emissions. They're not, as some outsiders speculate, becoming an obstacle to the implementation of the relevant legislation."
Is that so? But my divination didn't tell you that. You want to "take action" against a committee member named Mary. Is this also for Backlund's environment?
Angel looked at Greylint coldly, thinking that his words might be a bit of an act.
Of course, from her several experiences with the young viscount, she knew that he was not such a boastful and lying person. Perhaps she had misunderstood the short conversation that she had divined?
Remembering what Detective Moriarty said, "Don't rely too much on divination," she felt that perhaps she needed to re-analyze Hibbert and Grallint's motives.
Just as Angel was about to continue asking questions, she suddenly felt a palpitation. Although her magic mirror was in her handbag, the connection through blood still made it sense certain dangers.
Is someone going to attack us? No, the spiritual reminder wasn't that strong, just a hint of malice from the Beyonder, or perhaps concern... Is someone following us?
Angel understood. She looked at Audrey and Grailliant in the carriage, wondering what to do next.
