Bai Shimu first saw Gu Jueye on news reports. He was from a prestigious family, exceptionally handsome and elegant. Her first impression of him? "A demon!"
The second time she met Gu ...
Guo Qiheng watched the woman leave in a hurry, lost in thought for a while, before walking to the bedside and sitting down, glancing at his sleeping son.
The little one rolled over and went back to sleep.
Xia Wei walked to the stairwell and listened to the familiar yet unfamiliar voice on the phone.
“Xia Wei, your father and I are really at our wits' end. The developers are absolutely inhuman. They've blocked the only way out of the village. We have to take a long detour just to go out and buy groceries. And because this is an urban village, all the nearby houses have been demolished, but they continue construction at night. We, the remaining residents, are suffering from earaches all day long because of the noise. Your father's health wasn't good to begin with, and with all this trouble, he's becoming more and more listless.”
Xia Wei said coldly, "It's no use crying to me. You're too far away to help me. Call Xia Dong and ask him to come and pick you up at his place."
Xia's mother said with difficulty, "You know Xia Dong's situation. He said a couple of days ago that he wanted to pick us up, but his girlfriend's mother suddenly moved in these past two days. You don't know his girlfriend's mother. She's a complete shrew. No wonder her husband cheated on her and left her."
When the topic of her future in-laws came up, Xia's mother was full of complaints.
Xia Wei sat on the first step of the stairs, listening to her mother's nagging, feeling tired and irritable.
"It's very late. I'm not interested in these trivial family matters. You can handle your own family affairs."
Seeing that Xia Wei's tone was firm and that no amount of pleading or gentle persuasion would make the girl budge, Xia's mother finally gave up.
His tone immediately turned cold: "What kind of attitude is this, you brat? How can you talk to your parents like that? You live a life of luxury in the capital, while your parents are starving to death, do you even know that? Do you have any conscience at all?"
At this point, Xia's mother began to wail and cry.
"You ungrateful wretch! If I had known you would be so disobedient and unfilial, I shouldn't have given birth to you when you were still in my belly! Xia Wei, let me tell you, don't think I can't do anything to you just because you're far away in the capital. Your father and I are right here at the Beijing Railway Station. You'd better watch out."
After saying that, Xia's mother added, "You're an actress now, if you don't come to pick us up, and I make a big fuss about it, your bad reputation for not supporting your parents will spread far and wide."
With a cold snort, Xia's mother hung up the phone decisively.
Hearing the busy tone on the other end of the phone, Xia Wei leaned weakly against the handrail, feeling as if a huge boulder was pressing on her chest.
She felt that family ties were like chains binding a puppet; no matter where she ran, she could never escape the person who held the key.
Before she knew it, tears were streaming down her face. Xia Wei gave a self-deprecating laugh.
In her life, tears were the least valuable thing, because no one ever really cared.
As I got up to go downstairs, I heard footsteps behind me.
Xia Wei hurriedly wiped away the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand, and looked at the person who came with a seemingly unintentional smile.
"Mr. Guo, I'm so sorry to bother you so late, but I have something urgent to take care of. Could I borrow your car?"
Having had her driver's license for two years without driving, Xia Wei was really unsure of herself. However, at this time of day, it was unrealistic to expect to hail a taxi nearby.
Guo Qiheng's gaze lingered briefly on Xia Wei's face before he turned and walked towards his study.
Xia Wei bit her lip lightly, feeling embarrassed and uneasy.
She's so stupid, how could she make such a request to Mr. Guo?
She was merely a tutor hired by the Guo family for their young master. To a big boss like Guo Qiheng, her existence was no different from that of any other servant in the Guo family. For matters like this, she could simply go to Butler Guo.
She's really lost her mind.
"come over!"
Guo Qiheng pushed open the study door and saw Xia Wei standing there. He frowned slightly and glanced at her with a deep look in his eyes.
Xia Wei was taken aback, staring at Guo Qiheng with wide, surprised eyes, her face full of doubt.
Guo Qiheng met her stunned gaze, his thin lips curving slightly into a half-smile as he spoke: "Didn't you want to borrow the car? The car keys are in the study."
"Ah...oh..."
After a brief moment of stunned silence, Xia Wei understood Guo Qiheng's meaning and immediately followed him into the study.
Guo Qiheng took a key out of his desk drawer and glanced at Xia Wei: "You can drive?"
Xia Wei hesitated for a moment before nodding. Guo Qiheng took in the hesitation in her eyes and gave a knowing snort.
She got up, walked to the clothes rack, took out a black coat, put it on, turned around and glanced at Xia Wei: "Change your clothes in ten minutes and wait for me at the door."
Xia Wei was slightly surprised: "You're going to give me a ride? Actually, there's really no need to go to so much trouble. I've had my driver's license for two whole years now, so you don't need to worry about me."
Although I don't have much practical experience...
Guo Qiheng noticed Xia Wei's guilty conscience, raised an eyebrow, and said with a hint of mockery on his cold face, "I'm more worried about my car."
Xia Wei awkwardly gathered her long hair and said, "Okay."
Sure enough, Xia Wei, you're too narcissistic. How could someone possibly be worried about you?
Xia Wei belatedly realized that Mr. Guo's car must be very valuable. She must have been driven crazy by her parents to ask Mr. Guo to borrow his car.
If anything goes wrong, even a minor scratch, it's something she can't afford.
Xia Wei quickly went back to her room to change into her outdoor clothes. When she reached the door, Guo Qiheng had already driven the car to the lobby.
Xia Wei glanced at the logo on the black car in front of her. It was a Rolls-Royce. She didn't know the specific model, but the brand alone was enough to make her rich.
