Father Xiao paced back and forth in the living room, his feet whirring like a donkey pulling a millstone, making people dizzy. At first, he tried to remain calm, his hands behind his back, but after a few steps, his composure gave way. He rubbed his hands, scratched his head, and kept muttering, "This...this is truly...the blessing of our ancestors!"

He had originally planned to "lay low," after all, his disappointing son Xiao Lang had finally gotten married... well, it's hard to describe. But who could have imagined that so soon after the marriage, good news would arrive! This speed was even more courageous than his own back then! Father Xiao couldn't help but grin, revealing two neat rows of... dentures.

"No, I have to calm down." Father Xiao forced himself to stop and sat down on the sofa, but then he jumped up suddenly as if he was pricked by a needle.

He thought of his own arrogant wife. She was extremely critical of this daughter-in-law and was completely dissatisfied. When Xiao Lang was determined to get married, his wife almost blew the roof off the house, pointing at Xiao Lang's nose and scolding him for being "bewitched" and "self-destructive." If it weren't for his father trying to smooth things over, the marriage would have most likely been ruined.

Now, his daughter-in-law is doing well and is pregnant! Father Xiao seemed to see that his family line had finally been established, that there was someone to carry on the family line. For a moment, his face was overwhelmed with joy, and he could hardly help but hum a little tune. But before his joy could even warm up, he suddenly thought of his daughter-in-law, and he immediately wilted like an eggplant hit by frost.

His wife had high standards. When she was choosing a daughter-in-law, her standards were even stricter than those of a beauty pageant. If Xiao Lang hadn't been so determined to marry her, his mother might not have agreed.

The thought of his wife's face, which could freeze a person to death, instantly extinguished the joy that had just emerged in Xiao's father. He seemed to have seen his wife's critical eyes and that mouth that could choke a person to death.

As soon as Xiao Lang and Chen Xiaoru arrived at the door of their house, they saw their mother.

"Mom, why are you here? Why didn't you call me in advance so that I could pick you up at the station?" Xiao Lang hurried forward.

Xiao's mother, Zhang Xiufen, was known for her sharp eyes. She spotted Chen Xiaoru standing next to her son. She felt a pang of fear. This girl... didn't seem quite like the rumored daughter-in-law who possessed all five vices.

The girl in front of me is tall, with fair skin and delicate features. Even a simple dress looks elegant. How can she be "fat or ugly"? She is simply a fairy descending to earth!

Zhang Xiufen's eyes darted around Chen Xiaoru several times, her heart awash with mixed emotions. She had prepared a lot of criticism, but now it all got stuck in her throat, and she couldn't utter a single word.

"Xiao Lang, who is the person next to you...?" Zhang Xiufen suppressed the doubts in her heart and tried to keep her tone calm, but her slightly trembling voice still revealed her inner uneasiness.

Chen Xiaoru also noticed the powerful aura of her future mother-in-law. She smiled gracefully at Zhang Xiufen, but before she could say anything, Xiao Lang said, "Mom, this is Xiaoru! Haven't you always wanted to meet her?"

Xiao Lang's words were ostensibly an introduction, but in reality, they held a hidden meaning. He deliberately emphasized, "Haven't you always wanted to meet her?" to remind his mother that it was you who had tried so hard to obstruct this marriage in the first place, so she shouldn't do anything silly now!

Zhang Xiufen felt a flicker of embarrassment when she heard her son's words. She coughed lightly and covered it up, saying, "It's...it's Xiaoru. This...this change is really big!"

Even she herself felt guilty when she said this. What big change? They were clearly two different people! Could it be that her son had been hiding this from her and secretly changed his wife?

Chen Xiaoru looked at her future mother-in-law's expression, as if she had seen a ghost, and laughed to herself. She deliberately took a step forward, took Zhang Xiufen's arm affectionately, and called out sweetly, "Mom!"

The cry of "Mom" was so clear and loud that it stunned Zhang Xiufen. She subconsciously said "Ah", and when she reacted, she realized that she had been tricked by this "fake" daughter-in-law!

Zhang Xiufen was furious, but she couldn't get angry right away, so she just held it in. She glared at Xiao Lang fiercely, her eyes seeming to say, "You little bastard, just wait for me!"

Seeing Zhang Xiufen still standing at the door, her eyes flickering between her and Xiao Lang like a scanner, Chen Xiaoru knew she was still worried. She gently broke free from Xiao Lang's hand, took a step forward, and said in a light tone, "Mom, let's not stand at the door. Let's open the door and talk inside. It's so tiring to stand here!"

Xiao Lang finally reacted and quickly took out his key to open the door. The door creaked open, and a fresh air blew in with a faint floral scent. It was obviously arranged by Chen Xiaoru.

The three of them entered the house. Chen Xiaoru helped Zhang Xiufen sit down on the sofa and asked considerately, "Mom, you've been sitting in the car for such a long time. Are you tired?"

Zhang Xiufen had been pondering this the entire way. When Chen Xiaoru asked her about this, she instinctively replied, "It's okay. I bought a sleeper berth, so I'm not too tired." Then, she couldn't help but stare at Chen Xiaoru, her eyes filled with inquiry. Finally, she asked, "Are you...are you really Chen Xiaoru?"

"It's absolutely true!" Chen Xiaoru replied with a smile, a hint of playfulness in her tone. She knew Zhang Xiufen must be shocked by her transformation; after all, the rumors were no joke. She didn't intend to explain too much, simply saying, "I used to be quite fat, and those rumors...were all true. But then I made up my mind and worked hard to lose weight, and that's how I am now!"
