Wen Xueyan had just lain down when her husband turned off his phone, switched off the light, and lay down with his back to her.
Wen Xueyan's hand stroked his shoulder.
"I've...
Episode 106: Xu Junheng and Wen Haijing Register Their Marriage
Wen Haijing went into the bedroom and closed the door.
Wen Haijing made an audio call to Wen Xueyan to inform her cousin of Xu Junheng's marriage proposal.
On the other end of the audio, Wen Xueyan slowly said, "At first I was strongly opposed, but gradually I realized that he really loves you."
Wen Xueyan continued, "In the months before you went abroad, Xu Junheng had a very tense argument with Bo Yan over the distribution of his sister Xu Junxian's inheritance shares. He was unyielding in court, ruthless and cold-blooded, arrogant and looking down on everyone. However, he suddenly withdrew the lawsuit and directly gave up his possible right to inherit the shares under Xu Junxian's name, which surprised Bo Yan."
What happened?
Wen Haijing's breath hitched.
“He also said,” Wen Xueyan’s voice trailed off into reminiscence, “'I’m no longer going to argue with President Cheng about those things because you’ve supported her for so many years, and I acknowledge that kindness. Continuing the lawsuit would be embarrassing and would sever that connection. Besides, the money you used to support Jingjing during your most difficult time might have been given to you by President Cheng.'”
"Why have you never mentioned this before?" Wen Haijing asked in surprise.
Wen Xueyan explained, "He told me not to say anything, saying he didn't want to morally blackmail you."
Wen Haijing lowered her head and looked at the ring on her ring finger.
“Bo Yan said that Xu Junheng was never the kind of person to make such concessions before. Jingjing, he has truly included you in his future plans, and he remembers every bit of kindness you received in the past.”
"Mm." Wen Haijing nodded.
"He's changed a lot in the past few years. He's still decisive and efficient, but he's become more kind and gentle, and his career is more stable. If you like him too, then this time, I support you."
What Xu Junheng gave her was more than just money.
Su Su's situation is like a mirror reflecting the cruel reality, making her see clearly how unfair and harsh fate is when it deals everyone their first hand.
She and Su Su once stood on the same starting line, with almost the same family background behind them.
Hard work is the only faint spark they can hold onto.
For her, Xu Junheng's appearance was far more than just providing a bundle of firewood in an emergency.
He did not "rescue" her from the mire into a greenhouse where she didn't have to work hard.
What he gave her was a brand new, sturdy ship. Standing on this ship, she looked up and saw the vastness of the sky and the boundlessness of the sea.
The journey is now halfway complete.
Having graduated with a bachelor's degree and holding a master's degree offer and scholarship, she knew clearly that even if she lowered her sails and changed direction, she was fully capable of surviving independently in another unfamiliar sea.
Her summer internships or part-time jobs were enough to cover her living expenses; and she had always been frugal with the financial assistance Xu Junheng had given her in the past, leaving her with a surplus. From a material perspective, he had already given her the freedom and confidence to "leave."
At this moment when Wen Haijing truly had the right to choose, what welled up in her heart was not a sense of relief at being estranged, but an even deeper reluctance.
He rewrote the initial parameters of her life with his actions.
With him, Wen Haijing didn't have to worry about how much trouble her family of origin would continue to cause, because she knew that Xu Junheng would solve these problems.
With him by her side, she no longer had to be Wen Haijing, who needed to hide her wounds and constantly calculate her sacrifices; she could continue her studies with peace of mind.
Before sleepiness could come, her body felt a deep fatigue due to emotional fluctuations and menstrual discomfort.
A clear knock sounded on the door.
Wen Haijing opened the door.
The living room was brighter than the bedroom, outlining Xu Junheng's tall and imposing figure. He held a white cup in his hand, steam rising from its rim.
"Aren't you asleep yet?"
Wen Haijing shook her head, her gaze falling on the cup in his hand.
Xu Junheng pushed the cup forward, the steam almost hitting her nose—a warm aroma that blended the rich sweetness of brown sugar with the spiciness of old ginger.
“Brown sugar ginger tea,” he explained, “I just had the hotel kitchen find a Chinese chef to make it fresh. Drink some while it’s hot. Your hands and feet are always a bit cold, so drinking something hot will make you sleep more comfortably tonight. I changed my flight so I can stay with you for a few more days before I leave.”
Wen Haijing stared blankly at the cup of deep amber-colored, steaming tea, then looked up at him.
He stood at the door, showing no intention of coming in.
She reached out and took the cup. The porcelain cup was warm, and the heat quickly spread through her palm, warming her all the way to her heart.
"Thank you." She held the cup, feeling the real warmth on her fingertips.
"Goodnight." Xu Junheng then kissed her forehead and turned to leave.
A dozen minutes later, sleepiness finally washed over me like a gentle tide.
In the last moments of her hazy consciousness before falling into a deep sleep, she wasn't thinking about the brilliance of the diamond ring, nor about future plans, but rather about the broad and reassuring silhouette of his back as he turned away.
The next day, the sunlight was clear and bright, with just the right amount of warmth, making the outline of City Hall exceptionally clear.
Xu Junheng led Wen Haijing inside and applied for a Marriage License. Back then in Canada, the marriage procedure involved obtaining this license first, then holding a wedding ceremony with witnesses within 60 days, and finally obtaining the marriage certificate. I'm not sure if that's changed since then.
“I have an appointment with a business partner here this morning,” he glanced at his watch and asked her for her opinion, “would you like to come along? We can meet my friend while we’re at it.”
Wen Haijing shook her head: "I have to go to school this afternoon. My supervisor is revising a paper for me, which is planned to be published in the second half of the year."
The next three days passed quietly in the bright, long sunshine of early summer in Vancouver.
Three days later, the discomfort of her period had long since subsided, and her body had regained its usual lightness. She sorted out the follow-up matters after graduation and reviewed the materials for her postgraduate courses, while Xu Junheng was busy meeting with local clients.
Xu Junheng kept his word. Every night, he would pick up a pillow and a thin blanket and head to the sofa in the living room.
He seemed to have already designated that space as his own territory. Before going to bed, he would read financial news or deal with some emails, and then after she closed the bedroom door, he would say a gentle "goodnight."
On the third night, Xu Junheng returned from a meeting with his new local business partner at 11 p.m. He found the bedroom door closed, so he went to sleep in the living room.
On the fourth night, when Xu Junheng returned to the hotel, it was already ten o'clock. Wen Haijing had already finished washing up and was wearing a comfortable cotton nightgown, leaning against the headboard of the bedroom reading a book.
When Wen Haijing saw him enter, he was holding a document in his hand, and his profile looked particularly striking in the light and shadow.
He seemed to have no intention of going into the bedroom at all; judging from his posture, he was prepared to spend the night on the sofa again.
She pushed open the door and went out.
The carpet absorbed the sound of her footsteps, and Xu Junheng didn't notice her until she reached the sofa, at which point he looked up from his documents.
Seeing Wen Haijing, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes: "Why aren't you asleep yet? It's already past ten o'clock."
He patted the seat next to him, gesturing for her to sit down. "I met with a few potential clients today to discuss the possibility of future cooperation, so I got back a little late. By the way, I have an idea and would like to hear your opinion."
His eyes turned serious: "My company's headquarters in the US was in Miami. I'm considering setting up a branch in Seattle as well. Seattle is close to Vancouver; you can get there by plane or car." His gaze lingered on her face. "Most importantly, it will be much more convenient for me to visit you in the future, or for you to visit me. After all... this is a long-distance relationship. Although you agreed to be with me, distance is still a real issue, and I don't want it to affect our relationship."
He continued, clearly having given it considerable thought: "As for the domestic group, my father is still in good health, and my second brother, Xu Junhang, has gained experience over the years and can gradually take over more core businesses. I plan to focus my efforts on the area around you from now on."
He spoke eloquently, from Seattle's industrial environment and talent pool to the proposed structure of the branch office, its collaboration with Vancouver operations, and even some potential tax issues in the future.
He was completely absorbed in his work, speaking calmly and logically, as if the person sitting next to him was not his fiancée, but a trustworthy business partner.
Wen Haijing listened quietly, initially feeling warmed by his mention of future plans, especially his efforts to shorten the distance. But as his analysis became increasingly professional, that warmth was gradually replaced by a helpless feeling of being both amused and exasperated.
He had made such thorough arrangements and considered things so far ahead, yet it seemed he had "forgotten" that they had been separated for four days and that her "special period" had ended.
Looking at his sharply defined profile, at the slight movement of his Adam's apple as he spoke, at his deep eyes that appeared profound from his focused work, the anticipation and shyness in her heart were slowly replaced by a more proactive courage.
Xu Junheng looked at her: "Why do you seem preoccupied today? You haven't said a word. Are you tired, or... am I being too boring by talking about this?"
Wen Haijing met his gaze. She knew there were some things she couldn't say. But some actions might be more powerful than words.
She didn't answer his question, but suddenly leaned closer to him. To Xu Junheng's slightly surprised gaze, she raised her hand, her fingertips gently tracing his Adam's apple, which bobbed slightly as he spoke.
Her touch was light, like a feather brushing against him, yet it instantly froze Xu Junheng's body, clearing his mind of all thoughts about the business structure. His Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily, swallowing back the question that was about to be uttered.
Wen Haijing's face flushed red, but she didn't back down. She tilted her head back, closed her eyes, and, guided by instinct, pressed her soft lips against his Adam's apple, which had just slid there.
It was an awkward kiss, filled with tentative exploration and immense courage.
Xu Junheng felt as if he had been struck by a tiny electric current.
Almost instinctively, with astonishing speed, he grabbed her wrist before she could pull it back. The force was a little out of control, causing her a slight pain, but he didn't care about that at the moment.
He lowered his head, his gaze piercing: "Jingjing, do you... want it?"
He asked directly, his eyes burning, "Is tonight okay? You said it would take about two days, and I felt bad asking every day." Every word he spoke was filled with cautious anticipation, afraid that it would be another disappointment.
Wen Haijing blushed and nodded: "Yes. Actually, it was already over yesterday."
The next second, without giving her any time to explain or think, he simply picked her up in his arms.
"Ah!" Wen Haijing exclaimed softly, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.
Xu Junheng carried her towards the bedroom. His steps were quick and steady, his chest heaving with excitement, and Wen Haijing could clearly feel his heart pounding wildly through the thin shirt.
He kicked open the slightly ajar bedroom door, went inside, and closed the door with his heel.
He went to the bedside and placed her in the center of the soft mattress.
He then pressed himself against her, his arms bracing on either side of her body, completely enveloping her in his burning body heat and intense masculine scent.
"Jingjing..." he whispered her name, his kisses raining down on her. This time, there was no more testing, no more restraint. He completely overwhelmed her with the longing, yearning, and deep love that had been building up for four days, or even longer.
After he ripped off her nightgown, his kisses became increasingly intense, with an almost devout possessiveness, sweeping over every inch of her body and leaving burning marks.
Wen Haijing responded awkwardly but with effort, her fingers sinking into his taut back muscles, feeling him.
Then, he opened the bedside table and took out a condom. Next, he lowered his head and meticulously put it on himself. Throughout the process, his gaze was calm, and the usual arrogance or the wildness he had just felt in his brows was gone, leaving only an almost ritualistic seriousness and tenderness.
After more than a thousand days and nights of separation, and four days of careful waiting, all the suppressed emotions, longing, and desires found their most primal and direct outlet at this moment.
Wen Haijing wrapped her arms around his neck, and Xu Junheng no longer hesitated. He lowered his waist and entered her completely and firmly.
His palm completely covered that soft spot, sometimes tender and affectionate, sometimes forceful and domineering, as if to confirm her complete ownership.
Wen Haijing closed her eyes, savoring the feeling of being loved by him.
After a while, he paused slightly, and in the dim light from the window, he saw tears silently sliding down Wen Haijing's tightly closed eyes.
His heart tightened suddenly, and he wiped away the tears on her cheeks with his fingertips: "What's wrong? Does it hurt?" He frowned, "Or was I too rough? Should I... be gentler? Or go slower?"
Wen Haijing was brought back to her senses by his sudden pause. She opened her misty, tearful eyes and met his worried gaze, realizing that he had misunderstood.
She shook her head quickly, her cheeks burning hot, even the tips of her ears turning bright red. Her voice trembled with embarrassment, "It's not that it hurts... it's just..." She was so shy she could barely finish, and could only turn her face to the side, adding softly, "It feels good..."
These two words, low and hoarse yet clear, were like the most potent accelerant.
Xu Junheng felt his blood boiling, every cell yearning for closer, deeper possession and confirmation.
The next second, his strength suddenly erupted, his movements were fast and ruthless, as if he wanted to make up for the rhythm that had been paused due to worry.
A minute later, Wen Haijing's tightly clenched lips finally gave way.
"ah".
A faint, sobbing sound escaped uncontrollably from her throat.
Xu Junheng's muscles tensed suddenly, and his movements froze for a moment. Fragments of memory from that night four years ago flashed before his eyes, inappropriate yet incredibly clear. In the darkness of that night, she hadn't uttered a single sound from beginning to end, remaining completely silent.
But now, everything is completely different. Wen Haijing is the woman he solemnly proposed to and promised his future to. She no longer needs to suppress her feelings.
At this moment, that soft, gentle voice pierced through the four-year gap, carrying genuine warmth and emotion, and struck his heart.
Xu Junheng suddenly lowered his head, nibbled on her earlobe, and whispered in her ear, "Say it out, Jingjing, you can speak louder, I want to hear it..."
Vancouver outside the window is ablaze with lights. And in this tranquil hotel room, two hearts that have been adrift for so long finally find solace in each other.
