Jiang Ning woke up to find herself transmigrated into a cannon fodder female supporting character in a年代文 (chronicle novel)...
Chapter 7 Let's Talk About Divorce
Jiang Ning was so surprised that she momentarily forgot that the word "husband" didn't exist in this era.
Shen Mo heard a word he had never heard before from her, but he guessed that it probably meant partner or husband.
Jiang Ning looked up at him with her small face upturned, her eyes crinkling into a smile that seemed to brighten up the somewhat dim room.
Jiang Ning was initially worried that the man she was marrying would be a scruffy, unkempt soldier, and that he might not agree to a divorce.
Now she wasn't so worried; this man didn't seem like the type to pester her relentlessly.
Facing the woman's delicate and pretty face, Shen Mo subconsciously straightened his posture, his jaw tightening without his notice. After carefully considering his words for a while, he finally said, "I am Shen Mo."
Hearing him admit it himself, Jiang Ning felt that the world was quite surreal. Who would have thought that the soldier who bravely intervened in the incident was her husband of three years?
"I'm Jiang Ning," she introduced herself.
Shen Mo nodded, "I know."
He had just returned from a mission when Qian Feng told him that Jiang Ning had come to the unit to find him.
Shen Mo felt that fate was sometimes really wonderful. The clever and resourceful girl who managed to escape from human traffickers on the train was his wife.
Shen Mo looked at the girl in front of him with a direct and focused gaze. After they parted ways at the train station, that beautiful figure had been lingering in his mind.
He filled the gaps with tasks to keep himself from thinking about that bright yet cunning little face, while his subconscious was also telling him that this was not right.
But reality suddenly told him that this was his wife, whom he had already married!
Shen Mo's hands, hanging limply at his sides, seemed somewhat at a loss, and he could only rub his pants slightly.
But his gaze remained fixed intently on the girl before him.
Her skin was fair and smooth, like the bright moon in the sky, glowing with a clear and luminous light. Her curved eyes had a slightly upturned corner, revealing a slyness.
Jiang Ning also looked him over, purely out of curiosity.
They remained silent, yet the atmosphere between them was strangely subtle.
Shen Mo felt he should say something.
He was just about to ask the girl in front of him why she had come here to find him.
"Uncle Shen."
"Uncle Qian."
The child's voice broke the delicate atmosphere in the room.
Huo Zhiqi greeted the two politely.
Between Jiang Ning and his uncle, he chose to talk to Jiang Ning first. He looked at Jiang Ning, reached out his little hand and gently tugged at Jiang Ning's sleeve, "Sister, I've memorized the words, I need to go back to class now."
After spending a few days with the little guy, Jiang Ning had become quite familiar with him. She reached out and ruffled his hair, smiling as she said, "Good boy, go to class now."
Huo Zhiqi nodded.
Then she looked at Shen Mo and said, "Uncle Shen, I'm going to class."
"Um."
The atmosphere in the room made Qian Feng uncomfortable, so he seized the opportunity to say, "Zhiqi, Uncle Qian will take you to school."
As Huo Zhiqi left, he took one last reluctant look at Jiang Ning. She was Uncle Shen's wife, and he wouldn't be able to come here to teach him anymore.
Qian Feng and Huo Zhiqi left.
Jiang Ning met his dark eyes. "Shen Mo, let's talk."
"Okay." Shen Mo nodded slightly, his words concise and to the point.
Shen Mo walked around her, pulled out the chair that Huo Zhiqi had just been sitting in in front of the desk, and sat down facing her.
"What do you want to talk about?" Shen Mo paused for a rare moment.
Jiang Ning didn't stand on ceremony. She had already carefully chosen her words. She sat down opposite him and said without hesitation, "Let's talk about our divorce."
Upon hearing the word "divorce," the man's usually calm eyes narrowed slightly.
Shen Mo didn't reply, but suddenly stood up.
His sudden movement of getting up startled Jiang Ning.
The man was not short, and when he suddenly stood up, he seemed like a dark, imposing mountain that completely enveloped her.
She brought up divorce the moment they met. Is this man going to hit her?
Shen Mo noticed Jiang Ning's subconscious shrugging.
He walked calmly to the water bottle, poured a glass of water, and handed it to Jiang Ning within easy reach.
In Jiang Ning's view, his actions were simply a way of keeping his distance.
Jiang Ning breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he wasn't going to hit her.
On the train, she jokingly thought that if this man were her husband, she might consider not getting a divorce. But no matter the era, a marriage without a foundation of love cannot last. He didn't know her preferences, habits, or behavior.
If these two are forced together, who knows what conflicts might arise in the future?
Shen Mo sat down opposite her again and asked his second question, "Why do you want a divorce?"
Jiang Ning said calmly, "I knew it from the fact that you haven't come to see me even once in the three years since you got married. We don't have any emotional foundation, and if we force ourselves to be together, our future life will probably not be good."
Shen Mo spoke almost without hesitation, "How do you know life is hard if you've never been together?"
Jiang Ning found that his questions were indeed very insightful.
It seemed that playing the emotional card wouldn't work, so he said in a serious tone, "We have no emotional foundation, and our marriage was done casually, so we should get a divorce. After the divorce, we can each go and find our own happiness."
Shen Mo remained silent for a long while, his hands on his lap tightening and loosening repeatedly. "You're that eager for a divorce?"
Jiang Ning nodded, "Of course!"
Being forced into marriage for various reasons and bound together for life will not make either of them happy.
Seeing her nod without hesitation, Shen Mo's eyes dimmed, and he swallowed back the explanation he had intended to give for not visiting her for three years.
His face remained expressionless. He suddenly stood up and stared at Jiang Ning. "Okay, I will file the divorce report today. The approval process will take time, so you may need to stay here for a few more days."
Every time this man stood up, he inexplicably gave off a sense of pressure, but every time Jiang Ning saw his face, she couldn't help but swoon a little. Not to mention his figure; even when he was covered by clothes, you could still see his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs.
She's just as good as those world-famous supermodels who are hyped up to the skies.
Jiang Ning nodded. "No problem."
Staying here temporarily will give her more time to think about what to do after the divorce. These past few days, she's been teaching little Zhiqi English, and she's had the idea of temporarily working as a teacher to earn money.
Her major is medicine, and we'll have to wait and see how she develops in the future.
Shen Mo still had things to do. He glanced at Jiang Ning again and walked towards the door. When he reached the door, he seemed to remember something and turned around to ask, "Have you had lunch?"
The other party was polite from beginning to end, and did not turn hostile when the topic of divorce came up. They even readily agreed to the divorce.
Hearing his concern about whether she had eaten, Jiang Ning felt embarrassed for her earlier petty thinking and replied, "I have."
Shen Mo nodded. "I'll pick you up for dinner and take you to the cafeteria."
"Oh, okay."
Shen Mo patted his arm after leaving Jiang Ning, his awkwardness acting up again.
Fortunately, Shen Mo agreed to the divorce, otherwise she would have almost dug out a castle.
