Chapter 82 [VIP]
That night, taking advantage of the fact that no one could see him, Jiang Zhuochen openly let the little devil out to roam.
Having been alone for so long, he couldn't wait to look around as soon as he was released. The streetlights reflected in his dark eyes, shimmering with curious light.
Jiang Zhuochen held a cup full of egg waffles in his hand as he and Xu Xing weaved through the crowd, amidst a constant stream of voices and noise.
They stood at an intersection, waiting for the cars on the road to pass. Jiang Zhuochen glanced over unintentionally and saw his reflection in the glass window of a nearby shop, with a little ghost hanging behind him.
Even amidst the bustling surroundings, Jiang Zhuochen still sensed an eerie aura from that single glance. No wonder these reputable sects forbade dealing with demons and monsters.
After a long period of silence, the little devil gradually grew bolder. He reached out and touched the balloon of the child next to him, then tilted his head and widened his eyes a little.
The next moment, he reached out and hugged the balloon, his whole body floated over, and he chuckled.
Jiang Zhuochen had a headache, so he coughed twice to call him back.
The little imp reluctantly floated back, then followed the two as they continued walking. Sometimes it stubbornly floated to a small stall and lingered, sometimes it circled around a crying, hiccuping child, mocking him.
He was now acting like a five or six-year-old child, curious about everything and unable to sit still for a second.
Jiang Zhuochen's throat was hoarse from coughing all night. Upon arriving at his destination, he followed Xu Xing and was led by staff to the work area. He listlessly dragged a chair to sit down. It was a bit far from the crowd, but fortunately, it didn't affect his viewing experience.
Although he didn't necessarily want to see the light show, the kid definitely hadn't seen it before. Since he had nothing else to do, he waited until Xu Xing got off work and had someone accompany him.
One drone after another flew into the sky, and the low buzzing sound attracted the little devil's attention. He ran out on his short legs and craned his neck to look.
The drones overhead changed formations in an orderly fashion, creating a series of colorful scenes. The little boy, looking up, was mesmerized and clapped excitedly.
The light show lasts for half an hour, and judging from how engrossed the child is, he shouldn't cause any trouble for the time being.
Jiang Zhuochen felt relieved and leaned against Xu Xing, who was standing behind him and occasionally talking to someone, to rest.
Not long after, Xu Xing's phone rang. Jiang Zhuochen sat up straight and told the other party to answer the call.
The cold outside relentlessly eroded the warmth. Jiang Zhuochen rubbed his chilled face, glanced at the little devil still watching, and only put his hands down when his face warmed up a bit.
He looked outside again, and the empty space left him momentarily bewildered. The next second, he jumped up, ignoring the questioning looks from those around him, and ran outside to stand still.
Thankfully, I haven't heard of any accidents happening anywhere.
As he ran, he felt remorseful. If this little devil was truly incorrigible, he didn't care about being happy or not and sent him directly to be exorcised.
Jiang Zhuochen released his spiritual power to search the vicinity, but after finding nothing, he frowned. Just as he was about to go back to ask Xu Xing for help, a few scattered voices of doubt arose from the crowd.
"Huh? Is the drone broken?"
"Is this the standard pattern?"
"Wait a minute, don't you think this rose is missing a piece?"
Jiang Zhuochen looked up, his heart, which had been hanging in suspense for so long, finally relaxed. He gritted his teeth, wanting to drag the ghost down and beat it up.
I thought it had gone off to do something bad, but the little devil wasn't satisfied with just looking. It swelled up and flew into the air to interact with the pattern up close, covering up bits and pieces of what was originally a perfect design.
The questions from below grew louder and louder, and even the staff came out to check on the situation, extremely anxious.
Jiang Zhuochen flicked a burst of spiritual energy, striking the little ghost from behind. He turned around and was a little scared when he saw Jiang Zhuochen's angry expression, but he couldn't bear to leave when Jiang Zhuochen called him back.
He glanced at the people below, then at the drone he was holding, and unusually didn't go back immediately. The two sides were deadlocked, and Jiang Zhuochen took a deep breath in anger.
Xu Xing walked out of the work area, looked up at the little devil who was clinging to the drone, and gently said, "Come here."
The floating phantom was instantly immobilized and was pulled back to Xu Xing's feet by an irresistible force.
Although this brat lacked discernment, he was still very perceptive of power. The mere glimpse of the spiritual power that could easily crush him froze him in fear, and he dared not move again.
Jiang Zhuochen walked back, squatted down to look him in the eye, and raised the corners of his mouth in a forced smile: "Why didn't you listen?"
The little devil lowered his head and secretly glanced at Xu Xing. Seeing that the other party had no intention of settling scores, he shakily moved behind Jiang Zhuochen and hid.
He whispered, "This is so much fun, I've never seen anything like it before..."
Jiang Zhuochen pulled him out and scolded him, "You can't just run around like that. You've seen plenty of things before. Are you going to hold onto him every single time?"
"I know I was wrong, brother." The little devil twisted a few times and tried to run back behind him.
"Now you're scared?" Jiang Zhuochen let go of his hand, trying to scare him: "If you make him angry, I won't be able to save you then."
The little devil shrank back, ignoring Xu Xing's gaze in a self-deceptive manner. "I won't..."
For the rest of the time, the frightened children stood quietly by the roadside watching the performance.
The drones, which had inexplicably improved, continued to be manipulated and arranged, and the strange little episode was gradually forgotten by the audience.
Once he got into the swing of things, the kid didn't want to stay in the soul-gathering bag for even a second longer. During the day, while Jiang Zhuochen was sprawled out sleeping in Xu Xing's office, the kid would bang on the bag, trying to get out.
Jiang Zhuochen sighed. Why are kids so annoying? He wiggled his foot in Xu Xing's direction. "Master, why don't you let him come with you?"
Xu Xing didn't stop moving. "Now you're finding it too troublesome?"
"He's got endless energy..." Jiang Zhuochen muttered to himself, then turned to face Xu Xing, somewhat curiously: "Was I a headache for you back then too?"
Xu Xing said calmly, "How can a fifteen-year-old be compared to a five-year-old?"
"Oh?" Jiang Zhuochen raised his head expectantly. "So you're saying I'm very well-behaved?"
Xu Xing carefully put down the documents and turned around leisurely. "What kind of answer do you want to hear?"
Jiang Zhuochen pouted and slumped back onto the sofa. "I've already heard your answer!"
Xu Xing chuckled and continued dealing with the unfinished business.
Sunlight streamed into the room from the window, and Jiang Zhuochen squinted, unable to fall asleep. He absentmindedly tossed the soul-gathering bag around, increasingly convinced that his master was deliberately teasing him.
I don't know who he learned bad habits from.
A ripple of light appeared in Jiang Zhuochen's eyes. He quietly opened the bag a crack and whispered a few words while the other person was on the phone.
After the other party hung up the phone and looked down at the documents, he got up as if it were a natural thing, slowly walked towards Xu, and finally stopped in front of the desk, resting his hands on the edge of the desk.
Xu Xing thought he had something to ask, but when he looked up, he met a ghostly face.
Its pure black pupils, devoid of any white, stared unblinkingly at him, baring its teeth.
Xu Xing's expression didn't change at all; he only twitched his fingers slightly, and the little devil was so frightened that he scurried under the sofa.
Jiang Zhuochen faced Xu Xing and clicked his tongue in disappointment. "Don't you have any weaknesses?"
Xu Xing disagreed: "Everyone has weaknesses."
"Oh?" Jiang Zhuochen perked up again. "Then what is Master's weakness?"
During those few seconds of silence, there was a knock on the office door. Before Jiang Zhuochen could react, Xu Xing spoke.
"Enter."
The secretary led the guest directly into the door, and as soon as she lifted one foot, Secretary Liu stopped, at a loss.
The two people in the office were separated by a table. The president's wife was practically leaning over the table and pressed against the president's face. It was hard not to wonder what would have happened if she hadn't come.
She's so damn annoying, walking so fast in high heels.
She pretended to fix her hair, casually reaching out to block the guests' view. Only after Jiang Zhuochen retreated to the sofa did she smile and lead the guests inside.
Jiang Zhuochen picked up a magazine, covered his face with it, and lay down on the sofa without moving, cooperating perfectly like a statue.
Jiang Zhuochen spent several days cuddling with Xu Xing, still feeling excited, and also had to find time to spend with the children. He almost forgot about his important business.
Master still has two fragments of his soul that haven't been found.
On a rare weekend when he didn't have to get up early, he dragged Xu Xing to sleep until the sun was high in the sky before leisurely going downstairs for breakfast.
He took a bite of water chestnut cake, and mumbled through his fork, "Is Master still not finished?"
"Almost there." Xu Xing put down his fork and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Your important matter." Jiang Zhuochen sensed that Xu Xing wasn't worried at all. What kind of time was this? Work was more important than him. "That female ghost has accomplices, but I don't know where they've gone."
"We can keep looking, no rush." No one knew the unusual movements of his soul better than Xu Xing; if something really happened, he wouldn't have waited until now.
Jiang Zhuochen swirled the spoon in the bowl of sugar water, drawing out his question, "Master, will you stay with me?"
“Of course.” Xu Xing replied without hesitation.
Jiang Zhuochen pressed his advantage: "Then can Master go by himself?"
Xu Xing found it amusing; this guy was really scheming, not even trying to hide it. "What would you do if I went? Wasn't it you who wanted to come?"
Jiang Zhuochen used the same trick again, raising his hand and holding it out in front of him. "Look, you've lost weight."
Xu Xing encircled him, rubbing the inside of his wrist with his fingertips, feeling the barely noticeable increase in his pulse. After a moment, he slowly commented, "You've gained weight."
Seeing Jiang Zhuochen's incredulous expression, he spoke again: "Since you don't want to cultivate, then consider it as losing weight."
Jiang Zhuochen withdrew his hand, stared silently at his palm, and then lowered his head, trying to peek inside through the gap in his collar.
Has he really gained weight?!
His slender fingers opened and closed, then clenched into fists. Even when he looked down, his jawline, still clearly defined, brushed against his collar, showing no difference from before. Yet, the owner began to doubt himself because of a single sentence.
Xu Xing covered the fist that was inches away with his palm and clenched it to attract his attention.
"Not stupid?"
Jiang Zhuochen suddenly realized what was happening and angrily pulled out his fist. Wasn't the soul fusion supposed to be complete?! How come he still saw another shadow on his master!
“You are the master,” he scoffed, “whatever you say goes.”
