Chapter 148 Grandpa's Purpose

When Zhou Siyu woke up, it was already dark. She rubbed her eyes, moved her head slightly, and accidentally bumped into Yu Wei's chin.

"Hmm, you're awake?" Yu Wei yawned, his eyes still sleepy, and tightened his grip on Zhou Siyu's waist. His hoarse voice revealed his languor. "Sleep a little longer."

"I'm hungry and can't sleep."

Zhou Siyu easily broke free from the restraint, propped herself up, and tried to pry open Yu Wei's eyelids, forcing him to open his eyes.

I'm hungry.

Yu Wei seemed to be repeating something, or perhaps asking him a question.

Seeing his bewildered look, Zhou Siyu couldn't help but chuckle and reached out to rub his head. "You can sleep a little longer. I'll go find something to eat."

"Don't go, I'll go."

Yu Wei sat up, patted his face, walked to the door and knocked. The fully armed researcher opened the door, and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Yu Wei behind it.

"Could you please get me two dinners? Thank you."

The man nodded, picked up his communicator, and sent a message via the intranet.

"Looks like I'll have to stay here tonight." Yu Wei shrugged, walked to the desk, pulled up a chair, and sat down. "There are heavily armed people outside. Aren't you scared?"

"What are you afraid of?"

Zhou Siyu sat cross-legged on the bed, resting her chin on one hand.

"If we try to force our way in, we'll definitely get riddled with bullets."

"It's too ugly." Zhou Siyu pouted and pretended to be stupid. "Then let's not leave. We have food, drink and leisure here."

Yu Wei paused for a moment, then suddenly asked a question that left everyone scratching their heads: "You like it here?"

"I wouldn't say I like it, but this is the first place that has given me warmth." Zhou Siyu slowly scanned each green wall. "If it weren't for Oran Labs and Uncle Lin, I might have starved to death on the streets or been sold by Zhou Qi."

He won first place, but he was a minor and needed a guardian's consent to enter the laboratory. Zhou Qi had already decided to sell him to pay off debts, so naturally he couldn't agree.

Lin Ling personally went to Zhou Qi's place to negotiate. Although he didn't know what agreement the two had reached, he knew that Zhou Qi signed the consent form the next day.

Although there are indeed many bad memories from the lab, none of them have anything to do with Lin Ling.

"I see." Yu Wei blinked, suppressing her emotions, and tentatively asked, "Then do you want to stay here?"

Do you want me to stay here?

Zhou Siyu countered with a question, a faint smile playing in her peach blossom eyes.

"I want you to come with me."

What if I say no?

This time, Yu Wei didn't speak immediately. Instead, he lowered his head and thought for a long time. Finally, as if he had made a great decision, he took a deep breath and uttered a few words: "I respect your choice."

"I……"

Just as Zhou Siyu was about to speak, there was a knock on the door. Yu Wei got up, opened the door, and took two packed meals.

"Let's eat."

Yu Wei placed the food on the table, scooped up a spoonful of porridge, blew on it to cool it, and fed it to Zhou Siyu's lips, as if nothing had happened.

"I'm going to see Grandpa tonight, are you coming?"

Yu Wei chopped up the chicken thigh meat, dipped it in sauce, and fed it to Zhou Siyu.

“I’m not going.” Zhou Siyu chewed on her meat and shook her head vigorously. “If I go like this, I’ll scare him.”

"Then you should rest first." Yu Wei sighed, seemingly complaining, but her words were full of joy. "I'm sure I'll get a lecture from Grandpa again tonight."

"Then let's listen to it."

Zhou Siyu really didn't want to expose this hypocrite. He was so happy that he couldn't hide his smile, but he still had to complain.

"Yes, what can we do?"

Yu Wei nodded in agreement, fed Zhou Siyu, quickly ate a few bites himself, finished the rest of the food, and asked someone to fetch hot water while returning the lunchbox.

After Zhou Siyu finished washing up, Yu Wei got up from the chair, stretched, and pulled the blanket over Zhou Siyu. "I might be back late tonight. You go to sleep first, don't wait for me."

"Could you please do me a favor?"

Zhou Siyu gently shook Yu Wei's arm, looking at him pitifully, "If Grandpa brought rose sugar..."

"No."

"Just one."

“No.” Yu Wei shook his head firmly. “You can’t eat anything too spicy.”

"How can rose sugar be considered stimulating when it's so mild?"

“That won’t work either.” Yu Wei cited Lin Ling’s theory and explained, “Different flavors of food evoke different emotions in you, and rose sugar is too sweet…”

“But eating candy makes me feel better,” Zhou Siyu pressed her advantage. “Besides, you give me candy every morning.”

One a day, no more than that.

"You can give it to me first, and I'll eat it tomorrow."

"I'll think about it."

Yu Wei pulled Zhou Siyu's hand back under the covers and kissed his forehead. "Be a good boy and go to sleep tonight, or you won't get any candy tomorrow."

"I knew you were the best."

Zhou Siyu planted a kiss on Yu Wei's cheek. Seeing Yu Wei standing there in a daze, she couldn't help but urge him, "Go find Grandpa quickly, don't keep him waiting."

"Okay." Yu Wei nodded, then suddenly cupped Zhou Siyu's face, kissed his lips, and whispered, "Wait for me."

Didn't you tell me not to wait for you?

Zhou Siyu felt that something was wrong with him. Ever since he told her about his physical condition at noon, he had been frequently distracted and his speech was incoherent.

"Yes, go to bed early."

Yu Wei forced a smile, picked up the basin, and walked out of the room.

Light filled the empty conference room, casting three shadows on the wall.
