Chapter 148 Grandpa's Purpose

Yu Wei pushed open the door and saw a leather swivel chair with its back to the door. A thin, strong hand rested on the right armrest, with a wisp of smoke drifting from between the index and middle fingers.

Two tall, burly bodyguards dressed in black and wearing sunglasses stood on either side of him. Yu Wei closed the door and leaned gently against it.

"Grandpa, with this entourage, anyone who didn't know better would think I'm here to meet the mastermind behind some mysterious organization."

Seeing that Grandpa Yu didn't speak, Yu Wei turned around, his hand on the doorknob: "Since you don't want to see me, then I'll be leaving now."

The person in the chair didn't move, seemingly certain that Yu Wei wouldn't leave.

However, with a "click," the doorknob clicked, and Grandpa Yu was shocked. He hadn't expected that this kid would actually intend to leave!

"etc……"

Hearing the voice behind him, Yu Wei smiled smugly and slowly turned around.

The two turned around almost simultaneously, each sizing the other up.

After a long silence, Grandpa Yu spoke first: "You've lost weight."

"Huh? No way." Yu Wei patted his arms, rolled up his sleeves to show off his muscles: "You're mistaken, I'm as strong as an ox."

"I said you've lost weight, so you have." Grandpa Yu rolled his eyes and pointed to the chair opposite the round table: "Sit down."

Yu Wei nodded, but instead of sitting down, he took the cigar from Grandpa Yu's hand and stubbed it out in the ashtray.

The two bodyguards exchanged a glance, and the one on the left immediately tried to step forward, but was stopped by the one on the right with a look.

In the entire Yu family, no one dares to be so presumptuous in front of Grandpa Yu except for that once delicate and frail young master who is now as strong as an ox or a horse.

Besides, the old man wasn't even angry, so they had no right to speak up.

Yu Wei blew away the cigarette ash that had accidentally gotten on his fingers, his dark eyes casually sweeping over the two bodyguards. He then pulled over a chair and sat down in front of Grandpa Yu. "How many times have I told you? Avoid cigars, cigarettes, alcohol, and sweets."

"Hey, you little rascal, you've got some nerve, haven't you?" Grandpa Yu grabbed his cane, pretending to hit Yu Wei. Yu Wei didn't dodge, just smiled at Grandpa Yu. Grandpa Yu snorted, put down his cane, and gestured, "How come you've lost so much weight? I remember your face was round..."

"Yes, yes, you've lost weight. Whatever you say goes." Yu Wei waved his hand, stared at him for a while, and suddenly blurted out, "Grandpa, when did you get gray hair?"

"It's all because of you!" Grandpa Yu glared at Yu Wei. This kid wasn't going to create any emotional atmosphere for him at all!

Grandpa Yu anxiously pulled at Yu Wei's hair and leaned close to him, saying, "Take a close look at him quickly, pull it all out, don't leave a single strand."

"Hehe, just kidding."

Yu Wei smiled slyly and stood up to dodge the cane that Grandpa Yu had casually picked up.

"You've gotten bolder? Hmm? You even dare to lie to me?"

Grandpa Yu didn't really want to hit him. Yu Wei was his beloved son, and hitting him would hurt him more.

"Oh dear, I was wrong."

Yu Wei is always quick to admit his mistakes, but he never changes them.

"Alright, I've called you here today to talk about serious business." Grandpa Yu patted the chair. "Sit down and let's talk."

"I thought you came here specifically to check on me." Yu Wei looked hurt, clutching her chest, on the verge of tears.

"Who cares about you?" Grandpa Yu rolled his eyes and slapped Yu Wei hard on the head. "Stop pretending and sit down properly."

Yu Wei obediently sat back in the chair, legs together, back straight, hands behind his back, looking like a well-behaved elementary school student.

“I’ve seen everything you’ve done over the years, and you’ve certainly grown a lot.” Grandpa Yu patted Yu Wei’s leg with satisfaction. “The army is important, but you can’t give up the Yu family business.”

"Wait, wait, Grandpa, have some tea." Yu Wei poured a cup of tea and handed it to Grandpa Yu. After thinking it over, he decided to speak his mind: "I'm doing quite well in the army, and I don't know much about the family business, so..."

Yu Wei looked at Grandpa Yu with a knowing look.

"You think you can stay in the army forever?" Grandpa Yu glared at Yu Wei. "Besides, without your family's real money pouring in, your army would have starved to death long ago."

In the later period of the Etolan Empire, the royal family could not afford military expenditures, and generals in various regions began to pay for their own troops. Over time, the military force that originally belonged to the empire gradually became the private army of nobles.

The Yu family is no exception; every year, a large sum of money is set aside from the family income for military expenses.

Although the Zhou and Chu families contributed to the military expenses during the anti-imperial war, the Yu family still bore the brunt of the costs.

After the alliance was established, the Yu family took over all military expenses, excluding the other families and eliminating any possibility of them gaining control of the military, thus establishing absolute dominance over the army.

As is customary, the Chairman is not only the highest leader of the military, but also the head of the Yu family.

However, a small problem arose with Yu Zhen. Yu Zhen and his two older brothers were business idiots, knowing nothing about commerce, and Lin Ling, as Yu Zhen's partner, was also uninterested in making money.

Yu Wei was very smart from a young age. Although he was sickly, as the behind-the-scenes decision-maker and helmsman, he didn't need to be too strong; all he needed to do was have a brain.

However, to his surprise, Yu Wei's health actually improved after recuperation, and he became lively and energetic. Before he knew it, Yu Wei had gone to the youth training camp and successfully passed the exam to be selected for the army.

“Grandpa, I really don’t have the energy to deal with those things right now. There’s still a lot to do at the front.” Yu Wei blinked, grabbed Grandpa Yu’s arm and shook it. “Grandpa, you’re strong and healthy. You can work for another hundred years. Let me play for a few more years.”
